Acai vs. Prunes

All the mensos falling for the acai berry are better off filling their gullet with some prunes.

Something those of the greatest generation and/or any of those whom are members of Mensa would surely confirm.

Despite the prominent features on iconic programs, the incessent snake oil internet pop-up ads, etc., etc. the acai berry seems nothing more than a glorified blueberry.

In these “difficult times” please do opt. for some blueberries, the afore mentioned prunes, some real cocoa, some dark green veggies or even the also over-hyped pomegranate – those are even indiginious to the region, pick one off the nearest neighborhood tree à la Village Harvest.

Mmmmm, some frozen blueberries on yogurt. Antioxidants and flora friendly.

Acts of Service

KRQE 13 News/coverage of The Bataan Memorial Death March.

The annual trek is a tribute to the tens-of-thousands of World War II Veterans who were surrendered to enemy forces in 1942, thousands lost their lives under the torturous conditions which they were marched through the Philippine jungle. Only over 500 soldiers were eventually rescued as POW’s in 1945.

On a ~related note – Funny man David Spade puts his Benjamins where it counts.

Earlier this month Spade joined forces with Operation Helmet to provide state-of-the-art protection from traumatic brain injuries for troops serving in the Middle East, donating $100,000 for 3,000 helmets.

Please share these stories. Veteran’s Day is not the means for a three-day weekend.

dreads Pictures, Images and Photos

Months ago I saw some gentlemen dining in the cantina of Los Cuates on Lomas with killer dreads. I REALLY wanted to jet over and tell them to get their butts into the casting offices for The Book Eli.

I didn’t – and now every day I wonder about those foxy dreads that may never get their big break and it’s all on me for not spreading the love.

Well, here’s another chance for them and YOU! The book of Eli is once again casting all kinds, esp. those with the long webs of locks.

New Mexico Leaves Rogen ‘Breafless’

Posted by on March 25, 2009 | 2 comments

Some Juice are not happy with the formerly plump funny man for trimming down. But for health’s sake Rogen shed some lbs.

While filming the upcoming film Observe and Report the actor found the air-up-here simply too thin to inhale.

Absolutely Superfluous – Academic Edition

Posted by on March 22, 2009 | Comments Off on Absolutely Superfluous – Academic Edition

As “reported” here, this professional roid-case and b. ball player exchanged the following text messages with his madam of choice:

Rodriguez: “Thanks for setting me up with Samantha. She was gorgeous. But she is not you. When can I see you you are gorgeous . . .”

Davis: “Hi Alex. You don’t want to see me. I’m no fun. lol. Just because your (sic) so sweet, here are some pics of me and I appreciate the compliments. Your (sic) a doll. Thanks, Kristin”

Rodriguez: “You have been playing hard to get for a year now, your (sic) killing me.”

Davis: “It’s not playing I am hard to get. Maybe you should try harder.”

Rodriguez: “Kristin, I definitely will and I love the pics. I put the one on my cell so I can look at you all the time. Alex.”

Davis: “You are too sweet. I’ll let you know when I get someone you like.”

(Applause for the use of ~full sentences, but please – if these two winners aren’t motivation enough to text less, talk more AND finally learn the difference between y-o-u-‘r-e and y-o-u-r I don’t know what is – but, I’m sure we’ll all be presented with one sooner than later.)

WEHT – Letters to Cleo

Posted by on March 21, 2009 | 4 comments

Letters to Cleo

What ever happened to “Letters to Cleo” you may ask yourself, as I have many times since 1996. I still regularly – well I still have my LTC discs and am on the verge of getting them back out into rotation.

Though the world-wide-web has been at my fingertips for the many years passed since I’ve been curious after the whereabouts of the syrupy, smooth, baby-voice of the lead Kay Hanley, it is just now that I’ve queried her up.

And this is what I’ve found, A REUNION. Hello – touring dates circa 2008!

I “heart” that since I was first so taken with the Boston based crooner on stage at the El Rey Theater she’s sustained her living in her art, including a stint on tour with the teen-phen. Miley Cyrus. Ahh, full circle.

“Heart”, “heart”, “heart” that she’s 40, still bangin’ and older than me. Woot! Woot! “Just living on a Sunday morning, got my toast and tea and I’m warm and…Parody of yourself in color, giving it to everybody but your mother.” Ahhh, 1995.

On a ~related note:
Faith No More
Better Than Ezra (OMG, if only I had a benjamin [button] for every bead of sweat off that bass player landed on me {from the stage, gutter brain} from Cali. to MA…)
Fiona Apple
Matthew Sweet
Del Amitri

RIP Jeff Buckley

Kudos to the one-hit-wonders à la Lisa Loeb et al, and all those lil’ bands that still pop-up from time to time à la No Doubt!

Thanks Hesh

Recession Succession – Brought to you by DWTS

Posted by on March 18, 2009 | Comments Off on Recession Succession – Brought to you by DWTS

In ’01 Terri Hatcher would’ve likely given her left foot to have a vehicle such as the current has-been showcase known as Dancing With the Stars.

As you may know Teri was floundering as an actress in these nonsensical, barely parodied (above), RadioShack commercials with Howie Long back then.

Jump to twenty ’06 and Hatcher is accepting a Golden Globe and multi-million dollar paychecks via Wisteria Lane.

Point being – while the vast majority of us will not be bathing in vino any time soon, there is always an upturn. And fanciful as it seems we may be able to draw upon the Stars for some clarity.

Imagine the drive and optimism it takes to try out again and again, and again for any measly role. The excitement and fervor mustered to get up and promote project after project before so much as sustaining a wage – much less “hitting it big”.

And for every flippant, flamboyant or irrelevant “celebrity” that may flutter across or collective radar there are thousands upon thousands of dedicated artists who are truly working for their craft and their earnings.

Not to say that this Driving Optimism of which I speak should ever be mistaken with Negligent Optimism. Driving Optimism is the stuff of all of the above and that of Scientists, Teachers and Philosophers who strive for progress and betterment.

The latter, Neglignet Optimism destines its keeper for hardship, i.e. a wanna be gangsta’/thug, the bride hoping the wedding will change everything, the couple who think the baby will fix the relationship, the credit card holder who thinks, “I’ll pay for it later”, etc., etc.

Lesson Learned: Pick up your boot straps, not your crack pipe.

The Diet To END All Diets

Posted by on March 11, 2009 | Comments Off on The Diet To END All Diets

Muffin Top

Because we can’t all eat like my beloved Michael K. anymore…Some of us have a lil’ work to do.

If you have a little, “Does that show when you’re nekked?” a.k.a. the Muffin Top/Overstuffed Cummerbund of Flesh to work off – here’s all you have to do:

Don’t eat anything with these ingredients.

Write down every damn thing that passes your lips (that has calories) – you will not believe how quickly you cut the junk out, if you’re honest with yourself.

Move your patootie. It’s old and it’s tired advice – but it’s true. Come on people – 20 mins. a day?!? We don’t have jobs or funds so you might as well unwind some burlap and jump some rope or take the box you used to empty out your cubicle as a step à la Jane Fonda.

Lastly, from that understatedly, hottest of the Angels, the incomparable Cheryl Ladd (or maybe it was Cheryl Tiegs) who once suggested, put on your smaller pants.

Remeber when denimn was REAL? All cotton, none of this goes ahead and lets you go three sizes bigger spandex stuff. Sport your good pants with the unforgiving waist band that tells you when you’ve had enough (only attempt after at least three days on all of the above).

9/17/09 Addendum to the ©Sindication diet: Plan in advance what you’re having, e.g. two egg breakfast, turkey sammi lunch, chx. soup din-din, etc.
