Unemployed on the Web, NM

Posted by on July 31, 2010 | 2 comments

UPDATE 11/28/10: Benny’s nabbing gobs-o-jobs and to date our Manwife needs a gig! Hmmmmmm….

Much like Hollywood of old, NYC of all time, and Cleveland as of late, being a free agent can lend to the extremes of being either very lucrative or stringless y penniless (como moi).

Here in New Mexico I found two contemporaries in the latter category both striving to make their way while ~reveling in their disenfranchisement in two very different ways:

Amassing thousands of cross country hatemongers followers with usually impeccable grammar and unbridled rage the Manwife indiscriminately bashes the desert in which his been transplanted, famously listing his location alternatingly as either ” sand hole hell” or a “cross between the face of Mars and a cat’s litter box” complete with vlogs and snarky posts of his unhappiness and misadventures as a self described “Manwife”. Both his blog and tweets alike seem to entertain many as we’ve been able to follow along while he literally counts down and comments on the many days he spends between jobs.

Conversely, NM Radio’s Big Benny runs a tighter ship and an upright one. Appealing to a local base he regales his followers, friends and fans with timely quips, observations and advice-lite. In a mix of spanglish and contempo lingo Benny relates with peers and community alike. The positive and contemplativeness in his output has led the radio DJ back to the airwaves, a virtual campaign he led after becoming chopping block fodder of ‘the man’ over a year ago.

Big Benny’s positive and amiable disposition has brought him gainful employment, through the professional and social network contacts he’s maintained but the Manwife does have his own Ads by Google under his “Pay My Bills” section as well as a Donate button.

So what ever your flavor either of these two New Mexicans have much to say for sayings sake.

And if either of these two b*tches get a book or movie deal à la that Julia Child blogette I wanna git’ ma cut for noting them!

But, p.s. the most reluctantly prolific writer, poet and philosopher of our time better get his book an’ movie deal before anyone else!

THOR Sneak Peek

Posted by on July 29, 2010 | Comments Off on THOR Sneak Peek

THOR full length trailer may still be avail: here

Looks good! Moments harken back to pivotal moments of the 70’s/80’s superhero movie era, like in Superman II when the bad guys are hurling through space on that sheet o’glass, after court in those revolving hoola hoops.

I’m feelin’ it too, like when Thor’s all banished & stuff – that was totally what it was like when I got banished!

I’ll tell you who he is seksi FBI man ;) – THOR New Mexico baby! (and oh yeah, he is worthy!)

And p.p.s. HELLO Destroyer! INCREDIBLE!

Go NM!!!  I can’t stop watching it, like I couldn’t stop staring at the stars of Cowboys and Aliens when I first threw that up!

Albuquerque son Neil Patrick Harris returns next month to make good on his quick commitment to help revive a tragedy stricken branch of his New Mexico family tree.

Musical Theatre Southwest in NE Albuquerque, Harris’ home town, was ravaged by flames in May as we told you here last month.

The Harris Family will host a fund raising dinner on August 22nd at their local restaurant Perennials.

Only 100 tickets will be made available at $150 ea.

Tickets must be purchased in advanced and will not be sold at the door
of the red carpet event. If you would like to buy tickets, you can call
Musical Theatre Southwest at 265-9119.

“The fire devastated the theatre company, but we have been amazed
at the outpouring of community support, including the generosity of Neil’s
family,” said board member Rick Huff, who has worked with the theatre
company for more than 40 years.
“Many New Mexico families literally grew up seeing and participating in
the productions of the theatre company. It’s so moving to see them come
back and support MTS after this tragedy,”
– William Stafford, of Musical Theatre Southwest.

An Ass Talks Smack About Our Bear

Posted by on July 24, 2010 | Comments Off on An Ass Talks Smack About Our Bear

≠Breaking ≠news: Yesterday an arrogant, ignorant blow-hard made an arrogant, ignorant comment re: one of New Mexico’s Own, NFL linebacker Brian Urlacher.

Today the arrogant, ignoramus retracts/explains his stupid remark:

“During a segment about myself being named one of the “blackest white folks we know” by the Web site theroot.com, I made a few comments about some others on the list. Now, I know absolutely nothing about sports, so I didn’t realize that one of them was NFL star Brian Urlacher.

“Since then, I have been informed by my staff that Brian — uh, Mr. Urlacher — could kill me with his thumb in nine seconds if he wanted to. Although if we are talking about people in Chicago wanting to beat me up, he’s going to have to stand in a very long line.

“Anyway, I apologize to anyone who was offended. I just made a neo-Nazi jokebased on the short hair and white skin; I don’t actually think he has fascist plans to take over the Earth.” – Beck to The Chicago Tribune

Way to perpetuate H8 and stereo-types Becks! {sads}

As Heard on Coyote 102.5 July 23, 2010

SE Albuquerque – Upside down, underwater, etc. whichever way you look at it, our own coveted Albuquerque Studios is experiencing some financial difficulties (this is NM, we can all relate) and is gonna climb out of the hole through the re-structuring of Chapter 11.

The re-organization should allow the studio to recover and continue to roll with productions such as the current ABC show Scoundrels, AMC’s Breaking Bad and the upcoming SKG Dreamworks horror feature Fright Night.

The “WEST SIDE” will soon hold its own in the mega-multiplex, movie theater arena. Cinemark Holdings, Inc. (CNK) has announced their plans for a new Century Theater in Rio Rancho… » Read the full post

Pretty in Fe – Have Love will Travel

Posted by on July 21, 2010 | 2 comments

New Mexico is becoming quite a couples paradise or at least haven as big films and their super stars come to work in the Land of Enchantment their lovers come out to visit.

Some endings are happier than others, but we’re happy to play host and haven to celebrity folk amor!

When Channing Tatum was here in the Spring filming Haywire (formerly titled Knockout) with Steven Soderbergh his lovely wife (Megan Fox isn’t the ONLY game in town, this one and tinsel) Jenna Dewan took to the Indian Market and to Twitter giving an early review of the film(ing) saying:

“Watching Steven Soderbergh on set is beyond…a real genius of his craft. and nice and humble. love it.”

Haywire also stars Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas and Gina Carano, and is due out in early 2011.
