If you don’t know SMQ…You don’t know JOKER!

Posted by on October 28, 2010 | 2 comments

The originator of the very term “Hommywood”, NM’s Own actor, director, writer, comedian extraordinaire, Steven Michael Quezada shines like the star that he is as the cover model of November’s Albuquerque the Magazine.

The Breaking Bad actor and his beautiful wife Cherise are arguably the reigning King and Queen of Hommywood not only for their collective star power, but moreover for their unyielding work in the community.

All the more appropriate that SMQ is cover boy for the “Fashion and Style” issue which includes a sub headline, “The Art of Giving” as he’s so obviously mastered his own style of giving of himself and his art.

And because giving is always in fashion SMQ & co. will long reign as community leaders worthy of admiration and emulation!

All of NM can and should be proud of this NEW Mexican! Keep your eyes and ears on this homegrown and steadily rising estrella, because sure as we’ve been following him on stage, screen, and now as guapo cover boy there is certainly even more to come from NM’s SMQ.

Keep up with him on his Emmy winning ABQ television series Breaking Bad, follow his activism in teaching and inspiring young performers and industry professionals and maybe most importantly look to this ABQ Joker to treat you to a laugh peppered with a little inspiration!

Pick-up your November issue of Albuquerque the Magazine and catch Steven at his November 12th live stand-up performance where he’s sure to please with a little meet & greet after the show!

Speaking of State Beautification

Posted by on October 26, 2010 | Comments Off on Speaking of State Beautification

UPDATE 11/03/10 – ALBUQUERQUE Extras Notice “Blood Brothers” for THURSDAY 11/4/10 – FINAL DAY of filming for this project. *NEW FACES who have not worked! DRIVERS with CARS that are not red/white/yellow/black and PEDESTRIANS with own Business attire. MUST be in OLC database and available ALL day! If submitting with car-post make/model/year/color. If not in database, go to www.onlocationcasting.net – OLC

Since we broke the news of this production coming here…many a report has come in to us of just how lovely and sweet (and incredibly rippely-muscley & totally GORGEOUS) the two stars have been around town and on set of their current WWE film Blood Brothers.

We’ve tweeted our gracias y ¡bienvenidos! to @JohnCena and now we’d like to give an official “welcome” to Miss Amy Smart!

Rest assured our birdies are tweeting but being the highly upstanding and respectable publication that is ©Sindication we will uphold our commitment to remain paparazzi free as we welcome candid pics but never publish real-time or forecasted specs of talent locations or shoots – de nada.

Here’s the breakdown of the film à la PW Torch about the first of the WWE films to shoot outside of Louisiana…

“Notable actors recruited for the movie include Ethan Embry and Boyd Holbrook as the other two brothers, Amy Smart as their sister, and Michael Rispoli as an “embittered entrepreneur” masterminding a kidnapping plot.

The movie is directed by WWE Studios head Michael Pavone. New Mexico governor Bill Richardson is complementary of WWE in the press release with 140 jobs created to assist in the movie’s production.

“These kinds of projects help promote the state’s film industry and continue to provide good, high-wage jobs for New Mexicans,” he said.

New Mexico offers tax breaks to production companies that film in the state. A WWE producer said in an interview yesterday that it’s “highly unlikely” they would have selected Albuquerque to film the movie without the tax incentive.” – PWTorch.com

Things That Make You Go Duh! Part Deux

Posted by on October 26, 2010 | Comments Off on Things That Make You Go Duh! Part Deux

As every news outlet and their momma has already told you by now (above, here, here, here and HERE)…New Mexico’s Film industry is BOOMING!

Well, that boom is in great jeopardy without support from the incoming leadership of our Government. But whatta you care? It’s not like New Mexicans need to know the thrills of an exciting industry that broadens the horizons of many of the disenfranchised youth of our society…et al.

MI, TX, LA, OH, IL, MA and so many more states are “hot on our boot heel” and that which has been described as “an industry on wheels” will roll on by us (again, Microsoft style) if NM doesn’t retain their reign.

There is a long sad list of films and productions that check-in at the New Mexico Film office but don’t stay because of incentives elsewhere – but as of now the glorious list of those that come and do set-up house with their dollars, their notoriety and their community service is longer.

This is like that great love of your life that you’d be a fool to cast aside – Don’t be a chump. Vote-up NM.

Holy Hightail Batman

Posted by on October 24, 2010 | Comments Off on Holy Hightail Batman

UPDATE 10/15/11: SOLD For a low cool $18.5MVal Kilmer sold all but 141 acres of his 5,328-acre River Ranch in Pecos, NM to a Texas oil and gas executive and his wife for $18.5 million. The ranch originally was put on the market in 2009 for $33 million. It is not known whether Kilmer will maintain a residence in New Mexico.

Back in the day it would’ve set a millionaire back over 33Ms to kick it Ponderosa style in the New Mexico Pecos.

But now in what is a dream come true for every high-falutin, bargain shopping voyeur of craigslist the mighty ranch of none-other than Val Kilmer can be YOURS for the (just in time for Halloween) slashed price of just $23M! Woot!

Unfortunately ma’ Huckelberry‘s former estate is up for grabs amidst ugliness aimed squarely at the Iceman via his No. N. Mex. neighbors.

So as the great prophet Val may be gettin’ ready to hightail it out of his NM diggs Microsoft style, here’s to hoping the resort style property falls into the peace & love lifestyle it so richly deserves…or at least all the peace & love that $23M can buy…and here’s a glimpse what ya’ ‘git for that sum…

Take the “virtual tour” here

The listing agents ought put this property up on Ma’ Huck’s own personal, yet to be developed Facebook page…(my own personal mode of communicado as of late).

In the meantime keep up w/Val here.

Houston Spaceport, New Mexico we (will soon) have lift-off.

Stratosphere defying stars and billionaires alike will soon be able to make the trek out to Spaceport America, NM for the first of the commercial tourism flights as charted by the Virgin Galactic/New Mexico venture that is Spaceport AMERICA.

From the Associated Press via Las Cruces Sun News:

White Knight Two touches down in NM desert

Virgin Galactic’s Sir Richard Branson, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and prospective astronauts gathered in the southern New Mexico desert Friday to celebrate the completion of the runway at the world’s first purpose-built commercial spaceport.

Spaceport America is the world’s first facility designed specifically to launch commercial spacecraft. The celebration of its nearly-two-mile-long runway comes less than two weeks after another major step for Virgin Galactic: the first solo glide flight of its space tourism rocket ship.

Branson called it an emotional and historic day. The British billionaire said he expects flights for space tourists to begin in nine to 18 months, and he will be among the first passengers…

A genuine, high quality strand of pearls is hand knotted between each and every individual gem to prevent contact damage and to keep the entire string from falling away in case of a break in the strand.

“The word pearl has become a metaphor for something very rare, fine, admirable, and valuable.”

The ABC series Scoundrels shot here in the Q has officially been canceled {sads}.

I blame McDonough

The NM Production premiered in June of this year, during ABC’s summer season. The full 8 episode run opened with a solid 5.17M viewers but that steadily declined to just over 2M for its finale this August.

Stars David James Elliot and Viginia Madsen have new projects lined-up…Best to all cast & crew!

Here’s hoping to get you back to work in Nuevo México otra vez!
