Branden is an almost 15 year old boy who was born virtually a three limb amputee. He also has a form of Muscular Dystrophy called Mitochondrial Myopathy. He currently is the Goodwill Embassador for the state of New Mexico for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Currently Branden is a green belt in Brazliian Jiu Jitsu at Gracie Barra New Mexico. He competes and won first place in his last tournament. Not bad for a kid with one limb. He also won an international contest that was done on Twitter by world famous Brazilian Jiu Jitsu athlete Pablo Popovitch. He had to tell everyone how Brazilian Jiu Jitsu had changed his life. His entry stated that he was a 3 limb amputee with Muscular Dystrophy and because of Jiu Jitsu he no longer needed physical therapy.
He is a part of the Builders Club in school. The club does many community service projects every year. Branden participates in each of these and does as much as all the other kids in the club.
His whole life he has dealt with people who believe he is incapable of doing things because he has what they would deem as severe physical limitations. I don’t think there has been a day that has gone by that he has not proven people wrong and this includes the day he was born when he wasn’t expected to live.
He sees himself as being just an average kid. I don’t think there has ever been a person that has met him who hasn’t been positively touched by this young man. I would hardly say that is average.
