Stan Lee Tweets on Johnny Depp in #ABQ

Posted by on June 12, 2012 | Comments Off on Stan Lee Tweets on Johnny Depp in #ABQ

Was Johnny Depp at this weekend’s Albuquerque Comic-Expo? Fellow film star and comic legend The Real Stan Lee was!

While Stan Lee made his highly anticipated appearance at the Expo this weekend, rumors swirled on the floor of the convention center when attendees began to whisper that The Lone Ranger star may have made his disguised way through the crowds.

From the top of the comic-book world totem pole, Lee tweeted graciousness toward Depp who is filming TLR in the Q with:

We purposely came to #Albuquerque late, ‘cause I knew #JohnnyDepp was shooting here today, and I didn’t want to have all the attention of everybody taken away from him and centered on me… And I thought that was the least I could do for a fellow movie star.
The Real Stan Lee

If you found yourself oddly taken with a “mad hatted”, grey bearded chap at Sunday’s Expo, you may have been comic-crazed face to superstar and newly anointed Comanche, disguised face with Johnny Depp! Did you see him there? Some OHI readers think they did.

Who and what will be spotted getting their COSMIC on at the upcoming Roswell Cosmic-con & Film Festival??? Perhaps a Foo or two? How killer would a Depp Foo jam be any day of the week!?!?

UPDATE AUGUST 1, 2012: OLC Casting has just announced prep for casting 2 Guns!!!! Filming will begin in both the Albuquerque and Santa Fe area on 8/20/12. Get to OnLocationCasting.us to register or update your profile to be considered.

Feeling a rise in the fahrenheit here in NM my brothers and sisters?

Well, everything from temperatures to hemlines and everything in-between may be compelled to head upwards, esp. right here in the Q as two of the sexiest men in North America now tread where Tonto and the Lone Ranger (not to mention the molten lava hotness of one Walter White) have already set-up shop.

As we told you here FIRST, the demi-god of NM’s The Book of Eli and the original god of underwear ad dreams are set to team in the graphic novel turned upcoming mega movie, 2 Guns.

The reports are in that the pair are IN TOWN now, in preparation for the film that will shoot here and in Louisiana later this year.

Hottie-tottie, sexy lady, Paula Patton is also set to star.

Drop us a line here if you’re impressed by the duo out & about in the Q.

Gracias Chimi

p.s. we had some kick a** (not really) new pics of The Lone Ranger set for you today, but somebody pitched a fit…so, no cigarro on that, but they are floating around out there…probably sure to surface on KOAT in a few weeks.

Little Bear Fire Update
Sunday, June 10 @ 8:30 PM
Preliminary Evacuations Issued for Upper Canyon, Perk Canyon, Grindstone, Black Forest, Ponderosa Heights, Brady Canyon and Alpine Village
Due to wind shifts that occurred throughout the day. There are precautionary evacuations being ordered for the Upper Canyon, Brady Canyon, Perk Canyon, Grindstone, Alpine Village, Black Forest and Ponderosa Heights areas.

According to Interim Fire Chief Harlan Vincent: “We want to be progressive in our approach to this situation. At this point, it is not a mandatory evacuation but simply a heads-up for residents to gather their important documents and be ready to go in the event we have to call a mandatory evacuation of these areas. If a mandatory evacuation is called, you will be notified with a phone call from our E911 emergency notification system if you are registered or you will hear emergency sirens or emergency personnel will be in your area to notify residents.”

If you hear emergency sirens, please tune to 102.3 KEDU. KEDU and the emergency notification system will provide updates every 15 minutes for the first hour and then at the top of every hour after that.

“It is very important also for people to understand that we are using a lot of water to fight this fire, and we need everyone to be vigilant about conserving water as much as possible.” said Village Manager Debi Lee.

If you have not yet registered for the CallMeRuidoso E911 Emergency Notification System or the Lincoln County’s CodeRed alert system, please take the time do so at CallMeRuidoso.com.

More NM Dollars hit the trail

Posted by on June 6, 2012 | One comment

Is there a wager somewhere within the sitting administration, or a race between gov. agencies on how fast New Mexico dollars can be sent out of state?

Unfortunately, as we’ve already told you here, here, and here…Indigenous services from Film Production to Web Design and all those creative links inbetween continue to receive the proverbial SMACK DOWN from government agencies sending New Mexico Monies anywhere but here!

This time, your tax dollars are being outsourced to the far Northeast all the way to the land of the Cunucks, for the production of state anti-smoking ads. Fed-up filmmakers say:

“They’re at it Again…Much to our exasperation the State is again spending money on out of state production companies.

I don’t get it, wasn’t a front page story in the ABQ Journal enough to get them to spend our money locally? There is an anti-smoking commercial for the Depart of Health being shot this weekend with a minimal crew because they “can’t afford” to hire people on their budget. Really? They can afford to use a NY/Canadian production company. There is no reason why this money is not being spent locally.

We’re perfectly capable of doing our own spots. What’s it going to take before the Martinez administration stops shipping our money out of state?

Exercise Your Right to Vote for Film

Posted by on June 4, 2012 | Comments Off on Exercise Your Right to Vote for Film

NM Film Workers Union Reaction:

Dodging A Bullet

There were mixed results for progressives last night, but film really dodged a bullet with our #1 “protect” Senator Phil Griego and the surprising but welcome defeat of Rep. Kintigh in Roswell. While we at 480 are not going to take all the credit for this I would say that not only were we one of the biggest contributors in both races we went above and beyond even suspending operations yesterday to work on GOTV for Senator Griego. Some extreme pro film candidates were defeated (Mayor Coss, Rep. Eleanor Chavez) and we will miss them but we have replaced them with Christine Trujillo in the House and Joseph Candelaria in the Senate. We also are happy to see our friends Sheryl Williams Stapleton back and Andrew Barerras win a hard fought primary in Valencia County – we will have to be there to help him win the general election too. Again Local 480’s PAC donated substantial amounts to each of these candidates and worked on their behalf.

While we cannot overemphasize the huge loss we took with the retirement of Speaker Lujan I think last night can be characterized as a wash and these days that is not bad for us. Now we have the general election coming up and we need to try to win seats there for our solid allied like John Sapien who is in a tough race on the west side and Michael Sanchez who will no doubt be targeted by the Governor in Valencia County. We also can use this as an opportunity to educate new candidates as to the value of film. We will be looking at the elections and coming up with a plan of attack. Some of the material we developed over the last few years documentaries and pieces like “made in New Mexico” will be very useful to help us work with these new faces.

Thank you to those of you who voted and to those who didn’t shame on you. Last night was the opening salvo in what will be a battle to November, let’s get to work.

From The IATSE Local 480 Political Action Committee:

Tomorrow could be one of the most important days in the history of New Mexico’s film business if things don’t go well for us.

It looks like several pro film candidates are in trouble in the primary. This coupled with the retirement of Speaker Lujan and two of the four pro-film Senators puts us in a precarious position. Frankly we had 2 back stops, Speaker Lujan and Senate Corporations Committee Chairman Phil Griego.

Senator Griego has been targeted by conservation groups and one of my fellow unions and is in danger of losing his seat if we don’t get out and vote. Mayor Coss here in Santa Fe is in a tight race for Speaker Lujan’s seat and we need to make sure we get out the vote for him as well. Eleanor Chavez running for Senate and Sheryl Williams Stapleton are both in the fight of their lives yet they were there for us in the Labor Committee taking on Rep. Kintigh.

We need a motivated film community here using social media we know so well to urge our friends, family, and supporters to take this election seriously and get out there and vote. Many of these races will be very tight. Below is the list of candidates that IATSE Local 480 has endorsed.

The IATSE Local 480 Political Action Committee has endorsed the following candidates:
