UPDATE 7/2/2013: Breaking Bad creator, Vince Gillagan says Saul Goodman Spinoff Moving ‘Full Speed Ahead’ -The Wrap TV
As the world anxiously awaits the final eight episodes of the “best show on television”, Breaking Bad fans are equally curious for the verdict on what comes next for cast & crew.
Even before we learn the fate of Walter White & Co. Br Ba devotees look forward to the most likely spin-off in which the best, slimiest, lawless lawyer around, Saul Goodman will once again ease all with, “Better Call Saul”.
Best news for New Mexico is that if a deal is indeed inked for the series, the most likely place for the Saul Goodman led series to take place would be original series home, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Home to the AMC series, Albuquerque Studios (The Avengers, The Lone Ranger) is well seasoned and at the ready for the return of all things Saul.
Last fall NBC shot the gritty drama pilot “After Hours” across the interstate, as a prospect for last season’s television schedule. After not making the first cut, then being volleyed back and forth from the pick-up list to the tentative list, an off-cycle short order has been placed for at least four episodes of the show.
And as we’ve previously reported, up north some very special goings-on are going on around the return of the A&E hit series, Longmire and the highly anticipated Seth MacFarlane adaptation of Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey for Fox television.
LAS CRUCES, Sun-News report – Will Smith and his son, Jaden, star together in the film “After Earth” which is scheduled to open on May 31. Virgin Galactic is a tenant at Spaceport America, the world’s first purpose-built commercial spaceport, about 40 miles north of Las Cruces.
Overbrook Entertainment will support the “After Earth” franchise, according to a release. The movie’s plot involves a crash landing that leaves the two main characters stranded on earth 1,000 years after humanity left the planet.

Oscar winner Forest Whitaker is already garnering critical acclaim for his portrayal of Cecil Gaines in “The Butler”, coming to theaters on Oct. 18, 2013.
While the world waits to see that film in which Whitaker co-stars with Oprah Winfrey, Robin Williams, Jane Fonda, and many more stars bringing the riveting, real-life story of one man’s rise above a tragic and violent past to an epic life of service under a record seven U.S. presidents, the actor is hard at work in New Mexico on another dramatic film set.
The Land of Enchantment is full of rising stars, pictured above with a very slim Whitaker is one to watch. Local actor Joshua R. Aragon (Force of Execution, 2 Guns) is currently at work with Whitaker on “Enemy Way” in Albuquerque.
The production has been underway for a couple of months in the Deming, New Mexico area, the shoot is expected to continue to roll through the end of May.
“Enemy Way” is the story of ex-convict, Willie Garnett, who tries to use his second chance to escape his former life of crime. While imprisoned, he converted to Islam, which makes him a target of the local sheriff who is hell bent on exposing Garnett as a violent man.

“Enemy Way” is due for theatrical release in the fall of 2013. In the meantime check out the first official trailer for “The Butler”.
“The Media Rights Capital production will wrap in early July 2013. Filming locations include Jemez Pueblo, Shiprock, Bonanza Creek and Chama. The production will employ more than 1200 New Mexico crew members, 2000 New Mexico background talent and about 20 New Mexico principal actors.
The New Mexico film has been in the works since late last year with the comedic mastermind setting his sights on locations all over the state.
Since we’ve learned many of the top tier names recruited to join the cast including Giovanni Ribisi, Sarah Silverman, Liam Neeson, Amanda Seyfried and Oscar winner Charlize Theron.
Click through the images below to blow-up a sneak peek at a possible filming location in the remote New Mexico desert. AND check-out one of our favorite break-out NM stars, an almost unrecognizable Jackamoe Buzzell getting set to shoot a featured role in the film, hanging with MacFarlane himself!

The storyline centers on a cowardly farmer (Seth MacFarlane) who loses his girl (Amanda Seyfried) when he ducks out of a fight. He goes on to meet the wife (Charlize Theron) of a notorious gunfighter who teaches him how to shoot, but runs into trouble when her outlaw husband (Liam Neeson) returns to town seeking revenge. The hapless farmer is then befriended by town prostitute (Sarah Silverman) who has had her way with just about everyone, “but refuses to have sex with her fiancé (Giovani Ribisi), believing that as Christians the couple should wait until marriage before lying down together.”
After much ado about casting and re-casting, in round three of who will kick-up some dust and dig in his spurs opposite Oscar winner Natalie Portman in her New Mexico western “Jane Got a Gun”, her Star Wars co-star Ewan McGregor has come into focus!
Both are experienced in NM filming as Portman has been here for both “Thor” and “Brothers”, and McGregor starred in “Men Who Stare at Goats” back in and returned with Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender and Gina Carano for “Haywire”.
As everyone knows all too well nothing is confirmed until all hands are on deck, all stars are on their mark and the director yells, ACTION!
So here’s to a great shoot for all involved, how ever things fall out on this and every AWESOME production rolling right now here in New Mexico!
In 2011 it was announced that Fox ordered 13 episodes of a new documentary series, Cosmos: A Space-Time Odyssey, slated to air some time this year.
The original series was broadcast on PBS in 1980, the first of its kind, space exploration docu-series based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Pulitzer Prize winning scientist and author Carl Sagan, became the most widely watched series in the history of American public television for ten years running.
MacFarlane told Wired Magazine in the summer of 2012, “I’m dismayed at the rejection of science that’s reemerging in America. There’s nothing out there that glamorizes science the way Cosmos did.”
The year before MacFarlance told the New York Times of his passion for the final frontier, saying, “We’re obsessed with angels and vampires and whatnot when there are many more exciting and very real and much more spectacular things to be excited about, that are right in our own planetary backyard.”
And now the home of America’s first and only commercial spaceport can announce that the ultimate throwback into the future will be based in our own backyard.
Months of top secret preparations ensure that this upcoming odyssey into the earthly explorations of the vast reaches of the universe will be sure to amaze.
New Mexico, here is your first chance to begin vying for your own part of Seth MacFarlane’s version of Carl Sagan’s, Cosomos:
From Lorrie Latham:
Local casting is looking for a 14 mo (more or less) toddler girl to work in a scene on Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey She needs to be just learning to walk and still tottering between walking and not.
This is a paid position and will be a one-day shoot at the Santa Fe Studios. It pays more than standard background pay.
