Among the many who are passionate about this novel is local investigative reporter extraordinaire and fan, Jeremy Jojola who was recently able to sit down with New Mexican author Rudolfo Anaya who shares his feelings about his classic work, Bless Me Ultima moving onto film.
Here’s hoping we catch at least a glimpse of each of thee above (Jojola à la Transformers and Anaya à la Stan Lee in Spider-Man), and many, many more locals in front of and behind the camera.

Casting for feature roles as previously reported here.
“GWG Motion Picture Company, an up-and-coming Albuquerque independent film company, is currently looking to fill several different speaking roles for a horror/sci-fi short film scheduled to shoot later this summer. We are looking for male and female actors, ages 18-25, who are not afraid of running, screaming and getting tons of fake blood splattered on them. We have virtually no budget for this picture, but you will get meals during filming, and receive a DVD of the film when it is finished.
Auditions will be held the week of September 5th. Filming is currently being scheduled for September 24-28. Please send resumes, head shots and contact information to lastsummercasting@gmail.com.
Please include the following information: sex, age, phone number, and email address. We will contact you with audition dates and times.
Plot:
Last Summer is [a] film about a group of friends who embark on a weekend camping trip that turns horrifying when zombies show up, only to find that the most unlikely member of their group eerily has powers that no zombie can match”
Feature roles being cast:
JASON (LEAD): Male, age 19, Anglo/Hispanic, brown hair, very handsome and muscular, star football player for military academy (Quarterback), articulate and well-spoken, classy dresser, loves the outdoors, very loyal to his friends, has been with Brandy for years, a bit reckless, heavy partier.

Or they’re coming anyway and looking to hire from within. We’re all for creating more work for natives, HOWEVER…
Ahhemm, incoming madame Governess perhaps t’is time to look into what/how this shall be regulated. Oui? Ou non?
Personally I’ve long been awaiting it as an inevitability, torn between the positive exposure of our great state, preserving the privacy and integrity of our home grown productions and the possibility of spawning the pure evil, sprung from photog seeking/feeding media wh-ores.
We’ve said it before – there will eventually be the need for regulation here as in the Governator’s state – better sooner than later? Chime in & chime up NM.
and p.s. before you call me out for calling the kettle a big ol’ bag of pot…click

Toni Collette did not take home a statue this year but was awarded the Emmy last year for lead actress in a drama series for the United States of Tara (Edie Falco got the award this year for Nurse Jackie). Collette is currently in town filming Fright Night.

With a blog post almost as vast and colorful as our NM vistas, actress Olivia Wilde waxes romantic over the beauty and goodness of our capital city.
The Cowboys and Aliens star regularly tweeted little glimpses of her observations and experiences these many months of filming in the Land of Enchantment and she bids us adieu in this quaint novella where she wraps with:
“I have really enjoyed my experience in Santa Fe, and there is so much more I could write about (maybe I will) but for now, consider this a love letter to the above mentioned ingredients to my happy summer in my latest home away from home.”
Thank you Miss Wilde for the love letter that leaves us so much warmer and fuzzier than the the online morning after cab fair on the nightstand that is a Tweety-bye-bye.
Don’t forget to join our quest to get the likes of Cowboys back to NM for a local premiere gala!
Here’s some of what we talked about Friday Night in-house with Big Benny on 97.7 omg! Radio:

Another gory Horror for NM? We can dream. It is being ~reported that the upcoming vampire, western, horror High Midnight will shoot in New Mexico late this year or early next.
Cast in the lead is Vincent D’Onofrio whom I just saw taking an adorably gross turn in the original MIB wearing himself as a skin suit (memmer?), but nothing can touch his sickness in one of the only two good Jennifer Lopez movies, The Cell.
William Baldwin and sexpot Elizabeth Hurley will also star. Mary Lambert (Pet Sematary, Urban Legends 3) is set to direct.
Synopsis:
“Unforgiven” meets “Bram Stoker’s Dracula.” The story centers on a washed up sheriff who joins forces with an obsessed Victorian vampire hunter in order to stop an evil undead force from consuming a frontier town in 1892.
Tagline: In the Wild West a lot of blood was spilled… but it didn’t go to waste.
We welcome you with open arms, glorious vistas and major incentives…Bring your premiere galas and events to the land that holds you so dear! ‘LIKE’ this page…it worked for the Great White Betty! Let’s go New Mexico!
Ummmmm okay, so WWE makes movies – I did not know this. And it looks like before this hawt former wrestler hits the city otro vendrá…
WWE’s latest production, currently titled Blood Brothers is slated for a 2012 release. The movie is set to shoot in the Q starting in early October. Woot!
John Cena (uh, humina humina, above) will star in the story of three brothers, a Police Officer (Cena), a Bail Bondsman and a thief seeking a reward the FBI has offered for the return of a kidnapped American billionaire being held in a Mexican dungeon (because we play that and the apocalypse so well).
The PW Insider exclusively reports that this is the first WWE film…that has not been shot in New Orleans (one of our top competitors in film production).
As always more deets to follow, ollow, ollow…
Here’s the cute, muscley goodness on hosting duty at TMZ just a few weeks ago: (¡Bienvenida a Albuquerque!)

Local DJ “Dex” Toth from none-other than The EDGE gets an other worldly response when he prompts his brood to harken the LORD!
Shazam! Ride the biblical proportions lightening! Oh my Geesus even made it onto the local news (well, their web extries anyway)! Take that burnt toast Jesus!
She can’t win if we don’t vote. Diane Denish supports NM Film & Small Business. Meet the Dutchess tomorrow night at O’Niell’s Pub to achieve your own informed opinion.
As we told you here the hugely popular, classic novel Bless Me Ultima by native New Mexican Rudolfo Anaya is big screen bound.
And as promised current casting deets (extras+ will have diff. specs) are as follows…The long and the short of it is this; SAG actors only and said SAG actors MUST be registered on Actors Access and have “Red Agency Las Vegas” added to their account.
If you’re SAG and Access ready read on for the specs on the currently listed roles… » Read the full post

UPdATE: Ummm, Shizamm! Here is Penn on the afore/latter (depending on what order you’re reading this) mentioned Dublin set of the soon to be headed to NM film, This Must be the Place. YOWZA! – via my beloved Michael K.
The Alamogordo Daily News has been cast in the upcoming Sean Penn flick set to film in So. Nem’s Tularosa Basin.
In addition to shooting in Ireland and one of our top our U.S. film location competitors MI, “This Must be the Place” has tapped the hometown paper to be featured in the film which is also currently seeking to cast paid extras for the NM shoot.
The movie co-stars Frances McDormand and Harry Dean Stanton, written by Umberto Contarello and Paolo Sorrentino who is also directing.
UPDATE: 8/25/10 Upon further…reflection this is a very valid example of how/why we love our newsies:
Right?!? A pay per view of these smart, handsome men+ saying such things. It would make a FORTUNE!
ICYDK Your Sindicator is a bit of a local news junkie and radio show groupie…soooooooo this lil’ contest is right up my alley.
Now, NM has enough newsie cuties to fill-up multiple years worth of camp-calendars, but this here is the current line-up of news beef-cake for your voting consideration as presented by JTD of KPEK.
No, I don’t know if they’re taking write-ins, but I do know that there is a plethora of behind the news scenes goodness including a certain a lil’ sexy and a Saint just to name a few…but for now these are your contenders for The Peak’s “Hunkiest Man Hunk” of NM t.v. news:
