Though the most trustedsite for production info. tags Reno NV as the filming location for this Dame Helen Mirren, Joe Pesci, Bryan Cranston film, Love Ranch (now in limited release) was actually shot in bulk right here in Nuevo México back in ’07/’08, on location and at our very own, newly labeled I-25 Studios – where productions continue to roll.
Director Taylor Hackford recently gave interview to Beliefnet detailing his perspective of the story behind Reno’s first legal brothel and saying the following about filming in and around the Q:
“We got a tax credit to shoot there. But it’s not dissimilar (to Nevada). It’s that austere, monochromatic, look, bare but still beautiful. Juxtaposing that natural exterior with an artificial interior, where you’re never supposed to know whether it’s day or night, you’re supposed to lose yourself. That juxtaposition was a wonderful stylistic metaphor. But we did go to Reno for three days. It has not been the success story Vegas has and you can still capture the ethos of the 70’s because so much hasn’t changed.” – Taylor Hackford to Beliefnet

I don’t get the Albuquerque Journal, like many of you in the Duke City, but I do catch glimpses of their reports as blurbed on the evening news or more oft’ from New Mexico stories splashed across the web in places like TMCnet.com where I found this little tid-bit early in the month.
That which was once a mini jewel – a bauguette if you will, of semiconductor production in Albuquerque, only slightly overshadowed by it’s center stone up in the hills of Rio Rancho, shines anew with facilities for film and television production.
The Phillips plant has quietly been housing productions since 2006 under the management of Titan Industrial Development. The 16,000 sq. ft. complex, on 60 acres may be torn down for the likes of an office complex, depending on what buyers become available. Here is the published list of the “Phillips Studios” productions to date.
Movie and TV productions at least partially filmed at Philips Studio:
–“The Lost Room,” a television movie mini-series, from August to November 2006.
–“The Eye,” a motion picture, from November 2006 to March 2007.
–“Swing Vote,” a motion picture, from May to October 2007.
