Well hell New Mexico, whatta ya’ know? While local news is quick to report that the country is in a race to procure a pre-screening of NM’s Own (in-part), Marvel’s AVENGERS, per the AP wire pickup:
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Facebook fans are getting an early shot to see the all-star superhero tale “The Avengers.”
Disney’s Marvel Studios announced Monday that it will offer advance screenings around the world in cities where “The Avengers” has gained the most fans on Facebook.
Early screenings will start with shows in Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, Houston and Miami on April 14, nearly three weeks before the film’s May 4 U.S. debut. Admission will be free, first-come, first-served.
Marvel plans another round of early screenings in five more cities. Fans can lobby for their city on “The Avengers” Facebook page.
“The Avengers” features Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johannson, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner.
Predictably sour on film, Governor Susana Martinez tells lawmakers at this year’s legislative session that it would be “a waste of time,” to pass a bill along to her proposing lifting the $50M cap on New Mexico Film Incentives, which she worked to impose during the last session.
Martinez says, “I want predictability for the film industry and they have received predictability and I think they really appreciate the fact that there is predictability. It allows us to formulate a budget and balance the budget.”
In the last year alone this now “predictable” stance has led untold numbers of productions, including the likes of Iron Man III – starring Robert Downey Jr., Oblivion – starring Tom Cruise, Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained and television series The Lying Game to quit New Mexico for more “receptive” states.
While Alasaka and Colorado shoot to redouble their efforts in bolstering their existing incentive programs, states like North Carolina, New Orleans and Texas nab big budget films, local jobs and the media attention that follows them away from New Mexico.
Perhaps bringing to fruition what was forewarned back in November 2011, when representatives of the Governor’s cabinet appeared at an industry event, tasked with proclaiming the Governor’s support for New Mexico Film. At the NMedia State of Film event the Governor’s Cheif of Staff Keith Garnder stated in his address to the crowed that the Governor, “vows to wield a veto pen” on any proposed changes to the current Film Program.

“We don’t have a cap on a single incentive in any other industry. We plant incentives all across the board for things all across New Mexico…this is an industry that we know right now is generating a billion dollars in economic activity,”

While New Mexico sends millions of dollars out of state to improve create our image around the world, and this ongoing targeting of the Film Industry is racking up losses in jobs and notoriety for the state, neighboring states stand at the ready to take over.
Right next door Texas is wrangling for the top spot in video game production by extending credits akin to their film tax incentives. After handily procuring the production away from New Mexico, North Carolina rides away with thousands of paid extras casting, crew jobs and the influx of income that the blockbuster Iron Man III will bring to their state.
Given the current administration’s stance on film, and the losses that follow, being the resonating image New Mexico puts forth as a still high profile option for production, industry activists and advocates are set to convene at the Roundhouse to lobby state legislators on February 1st for New Mexico Film & Media Day 2012.

The trailer for “The Avengers” has been out since mid-October — but thanks to a newly released alternate version, there are a few more scenes to chew on.
The Russian version of the trailer runs roughly the same length as the trailer released in the U.S. But it offers the first glimpses of Tony Stark (a.k.a. Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr.) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) encountering one another.
The trailer also features Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) as their non-superhero selves, Natasha Romanoff and Bruce Banner.
(We’re still waiting on our Russian translator to figure out what they’re saying.)
Like habitual New Mexico movie star Seth Rogen, his fellow funny men and gajillions of Hollywood celebs who take to the hills, whether it be for work or rec, RDJ was getting his hike on in Albuquerque TODAY!
No official word on what Iron Man is here for but gossip abounds that he may be set to shoot his scenes for a little film called THE AVENGERS, duh!

While we’re learning but scant tidbits from the intense media coverage of Marvel’s Avengers, currently in production here in NM, such as how Mark Ruffalo will achieve the Hulk Bulk, that Captain America will get a new costume for this side of the pond, that Thor says expect tension, and what the character set chairs look like…
Walt Disney co-owned Marvel Studios has begun production on the superhero blockbuster film “Marvel’s The Avengers”. There will be ongoing casting for day players, extras, stand-ins, and photo doubles in Albuquerque, Cleveland, and New York City throughout the entire production which will run through September 2010.
“Marvel’s The Avengers” is being produced by Marvel Studios’ President, Kevin Feige, and executive produced by Alan Fine, Stan Lee, Louis D’Esposito, Patty Whitcher, and Jon Favreau. Marvel Studios’ Jeremy Latcham and Victoria Alonso will co-produce.
Based on the hugely successful Marvel comic book series, “Marvel’s The Avengers” brings together the mightiest Super Hero characters as they all assemble together on screen for the first time. “Marvel’s The Avengers” is the first feature to be fully owned, marketed and distributed by Disney, which acquired Marvel in 2009. The studio’s plan for “Marvel’s The Avengers” is so enterprising that many of the starring actors involved in these recent Marvel superhero pictures have been signed with options for as many as nine films.
Shooting is taking place at Albuquerque Studios, and will also take place at Grumman Studios in Bethpage, New York, and at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn, New York City. Set construction at Steiner Studios is slated to begin in November and the production is expected to use the facility for months. There will be 2 months of filming in Cleveland, Ohio where over 2,000 extras are expected to be cast.
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures has acquired worldwide distribution rights for “Marvel’s The Avengers” from Paramount for $115 million in a deal which also included Iron Man 3. “Marvel’s The Avengers” is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 4, 2012. » Read the full post

The buzz-buzz is that Favs brought HARRISON FORD to his first Comic-Con experience to participate in the Cowboys and Aliens panel this evening…How did Han Solo never go to Comic Con before? Stud.
Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde and Sam Rockwell also appeared. The NM shoot is getting lots o’buzz as Favreau says C&A will be back for Comic Con 2011 just before the release of the much anticipated film – which, as was just disclosed will be in 2 Dimensions…Favs said, “f*ck it” after early digital test shoots.
Just a few weeks into filming the Cowboys ensemble did not disappoint – even bringing a preview reel of the movie that brought the crowd to its feet.

Plot – “Peter Highman (Robert Downey Jr.) is an expectant first-time father whose wife’s due date is a mere five days away. As Peter hurries to catch a flight home from Atlanta to be at her side for the birth, his best intentions go completely awry when a chance encounter with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay (Zach Galifianakis) forces Peter to hitch a ride with Ethan–on what turns out to be a cross-country road trip that will ultimately destroy several cars, numerous friendships and Peter’s last nerve.”
RDJ is heading to New Mexico to shoot Due Date beginning next month. Directed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover 2 coming 2011) the production is currently looking for extras. The NM Film office says to go to EG Productions to register for casting.
