Posted by on October 12, 2012 | Comments Off

CORRECTION: It was previously reported in this post that actress Amy Madigan was in New Mexico to film this upcoming American Girl movie with Jane Seymour, however new details are that Madigan was in fact here at work on Frontera, starring her husband, Ed Harris and Eva Longoria.

First look – the beautiful and multi-talented Jane Seymour, between scenes on American Girl in Old Town Albuquerque this week!

UPDATE 10/17/12: American Girl is filming in Old Town Albuquerque today through 12:00 p.m. 200 volunteer background adults and children to be on scene as onlookers.

American Girl Dolls, New Mexico USA

NOW FILMING – Twilight-shmilight, book series’ turned movies are all the rage, and New Mexico is getting a little piece of the “American Girl” franchise!

On the 2008 heels of “Kit Kittredge: An American Girl” for the big screen, another installment of the direct-to-video film series, based on the outrageously popular line of 18-inch dolls, is currently filming in New Mexico.

The dolls portray nine to eleven–year–old girls of a variety of ethnicities. The current “Girl of the Year” (GOTY) is Alberta.

A(merican) G(irl) Tube reported in September:

Upset that her New Mexico school can only afford music and art teachers in alternate years, fourth-grader Saige works with her grandmother, Mimi, to plan a fundraiser but when Mimi has an accident, Saige relies on new friend Gabi to help. (Book One- Meet Saige) Painting in her grandmother’s studio and riding her favorite horse, Georgia, helps fourth-grader Saige cope with missing Mimi and sparks an idea for funding the school art program, but more creativity will be needed to keep Georgia from being sold. (Book Two- Saige Paints The Sky). Her books are written by Jessica Haas and is illustrated by Sarah Davis (the same illustrator who drew the gorgeous illustrations in the Kanani books).

American Girl is holding auditions and is looking for: A girl with a fair complexion (the character may be named Alberta), A girl from Latin America (the character may be named Gayle), A girl of all/ any ethnicities (the character may be named Dina), and a girl with blonde hair (who may be named Tasha).

Over the summer it was announced that Jane Seymour is cast as the adult lead in the film, which has already completed principal photography in Manitoba, Canada.

American Girl: Alberta is exec. produced by Debra Martin Chase (Lemonade Mouth, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Princess Diaries), and is directed by Vince Marcello.

A is for Albuquerque Actor, Erik Hausmanis who has taken to La La Land for a spell.

The long-time OneHeadlightInk fave and MI native had hit the NM scene running – landing several indie movie roles and television & movie spots.

Hot in the Q and beyond in New Mexico productions like Fright Night, Tiger Eyes and Breaking Bad

You should be able to catch him now in NMDOT PSAs buckling-up like a champ in heavy rotation, in Disney’s Lemonade Mouth and in the upcoming movie A Bird of the Air.

B is for the baad things that have happened to NM Film since the new administration at the roundhouse has taken aim at the industry opening the door to losing productions during these times of flux and pointing to the exit for talent that comes or strives from within to be a part of a sustainable workforce in local arts & entertainment.

C is for…uh, I digress.

Haus is one of the many who have gone and are planning to go where the very mobile film industry finds a supportive home – but he says he’ll always be one of NM’s Own – agreed.

Look for him in future projects out of CA and beyond (break a leg jetting to Chi-Town) we (I’m looking at y’all) will be holding-down the homefront by looking out for New Mexico Film so as to retain talent, maintain & sustain business for all!

NM Youth Works

Just last week we were thrilled to share big casting news for two of New Mexico’s Own, both landing roles in feature film adaptations of best selling novels!

Two more NM child actors win rave reviews all around for their work in the Disney Channel original movie Lemonade Mouth.

Now we’ve learned through our friend Roscoe Pond over at Native American Hollywood that more congratulations are in order!

And again the amazing opportunities for this young talent and all the cast & crew involved is thanks to more best selling literature hitting the screen in an exciting new television pilot, now filming in northern New Mexico.

From Native American Hollywood.com:

“Amber Midthunder has been cast to play Lilly Stillwater, a central character in the A&E pilot LONGMIRE (based on the mystery novels by Craig Johnson). Production is currently under way.” [Starring] Lou Diamond Phillips, Zahn McClarnon and now Amber Midthunder. This is shaping up to be a cool TV pilot. Let’s hope A & E picks it up as a TV series.

Unlike The History Channel’s multi-million dollar take on The Kennedys, which turns-out will never see the light of day outside of Canada

NM’s Own Lemonade Mouth now has a television debut date! See deets below and the NM film’s chronology here.

PRESS RELEASE:

“LEMONADE MOUTH,” A DISNEY CHANNEL ORIGINAL MOVIE,

SET TO PREMIERE FRIDAY, MARCH 25 ON DISNEY CHANNEL

– Soundtrack Debuts Tuesday, March 22 –

Themes of believing in yourself, following your dreams, celebrating family and staying true to yourself are explored in the triumphant, music-driven “Lemonade Mouth,” a Disney Channel Original Movie based on the book of the same name, set to premiere FRIDAY, MARCH 25 (8:00 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney Channel. The announcement was made today by Gary Marsh, president, Entertainment, and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide. The movie joins the powerhouse franchise that has delivered cable TV’s No. 1 original movie telecast in Total Viewers for the past four years and TV’s No. 1 original movie among Tweens 9-14 for the past nine years.

Geared towards kids, tweens and families, “Lemonade Mouth” tells the story of how a powerhouse band came to be after five uncelebrated students with a passion for music find each other and ultimately become the voice of their generation.

Directed by award winning film director Patricia Riggen (“La Misma Luna”) and executive-produced by Debra Martin Chase (“The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,” Disney Channel’s “The Cheetah Girls” movies), the movie showcases a remarkably talented cast led by popular stars of Disney Channel hits: Bridgit Mendler (“Good Luck Charlie”) as lead vocalist Olivia White, Adam Hicks (Disney XD’s “Zeke and Luther”) as keyboardist Wen Giford, Hayley Kiyoko (“Wizards of Waverly Place”) as electric guitarist Stella Yamada, Naomi Scott (Disney Channel UK’s “Life Bites”) as bass guitarist Mohini, and newcomer Blake Michael (who landed the role via an open casting call) as percussionist Charlie Delgado. Also starring are Nick Roux (“The Suite Life on Deck”) as Scott Pickett, Chris Brochu (“Soul Surfer”) as Ray Beach, Tisha Campbell-Martin (“My Wife and Kids”) as music teacher Miss Reznick and Christopher McDonald (“Boardwalk Empire”) as Principal Brenigan.
