DEPP TRANSCENDENCE is OURS, New Mexico

Posted by on March 2, 2013 | 3 comments

***UPDATE*** We are unable to divulge whether tribal, public or private property, locations or facilities are in talks to host this project, but multiple local area sources have confirmed to us the film’s likelihood of shooting in New Mexico.

Adopted Son Johnny Depp to film Transcendence in New Mexico

In a far out blind item, we were recently hinting at rumblings that the biggest of biggies by way of global superstars, was possibly en route BACK to New Mexico!

Now that reports are rolling into the blogosphere that Johnny Depp’s next feature film is in fact on the rails, rapidly headed toward meeting production dates for a Spring 2014 release date, we ~can tell you – DEPP IS HEADED BACK TO NEW MEXICO!

Transcendence (which I will now learn how to spell) is set to co-star NMFilmer Paul Bettany, who starred in the 2009 New Mexico film Legion. Dark Knight cinematographer Wally Pfister will make his directorial debut with the film, which Collider reports to be about “a scientist whose brain gets uploaded into a supercomputer with the aim of creating the world’s first machine that can think for itself”.

Female leads currently being bandied about include NMFilm star Emily Blunt (Sunshine Cleaning), Rooney Mara, and Rebecca Hall.

Stay tuned…Local casting deets to follow!

What Wahlberg Says About NM

Posted by on October 14, 2012 | Comments Off

When this New Mexico Filmophile happened upon a day of Lone Survivor filming in Albuquerque last week, I had the chance to re-introduce myself (stammer and gush) to the one and only Mark Wahlberg!

Wahlberg praised New Mexico, saying he likes filming here, reminding me that he just finished-up a great shoot on another NMFilm, “2 Guns”. He admiringly made mention of the hardworking crew and staff who have been handling the remote mountain shoots on this current project.

Besides lauding the local filming conditions and talent, the family man was also quick to state how convenient it is to get back home to California on breaks from shooting.

So now, my original 20 year-old Mark Wahlberg story comes full circle. It was great to see him at work and he’s just as kind and considerate (and gorgeous) as he was when I first met him as a teen.

In fact, after the take I was able to see, he popped out of the scene and said to me, “Sorry about the language”, with a wink and a smile, regarding his character’s colorful vocabulary (he’s got nothing on Ted).

And just like all the reports and fan photos from 2 Guns would suggest, the star’s graciousness extends to every shoot. When I first got to the set Wahlberg was snapping some pics and chatting with staffers and such. YES ladies and gentlemen, I too got away with a pic and a hug!

Things I forgot to ask:

Whether or not he has or will meet-up with Jennifer Aniston, his Rock Star co-star who’s also currently filming here.

Did he hear anything about filming in NM from his “Fighter” co-stars Christain Bale (3:10 to Yuma, Terminator Salvation) or Amy Adams (Sunshine Cleaning)? What about “The Book of Eli” duo, Denzel Washington (2 Guns co-star) or Mila Kunis (Ted co-star)?

What he thought of big brother Donnie’s stint on the NM series “In Plain Sight”.

Does he watch Breaking Bad?

Red or Green?

Stay tuned…

The Last Stand Villainous Cast

Das Auto guy, aka most grotesque use of a wood chipper on film guy is set to be muy peligroso in the New Mexico action/western Film “The Last Stand”.

Peter Stormare is no stranger to the villain’s seat, known for his roles in Fargo, The Big Lebowski, Minority Report and Armageddon, where even if he isn’t playing THE Bad Guy he’s freaking unnerving at every turn!

Variety reports Stormare, “would play Burrell, a war vet who is commissioned by the main villain to lead an eight-man crew and take out the sheriff and his team.”

Ji-woon Kim will direct Schwarzenegger, Stormare and Austin all recently announced to star in this, the film career comeback vehicle for Schwarzenegger – in which he’ll play the small town sheriff taking on a powerful drug cartel.

The location casting director on this project is the esteemed Jo Edna Boldin (True Grit, No Country For Old Men, Sunshine Cleaning, Terminator Salvation, +++).

Local extras/background casting and crew details expected soon for the “The Last Stand”, set to begin production in Valencia county next month for a January 2013 release!

UPDATE 9/6/11: TONIGHT at the The After After Party, the greatest entertainment showcase in New Mexico, enjoy the good vibrations of Ambient Trash! Get in there – it’s still FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE and thar’s a cash bar!!! Check out the rest of the line-up, location & time here.

UPDATE 8/4/11: ONE NIGHT ONLY! Catch ‘em if you can…This Sat. night Ambient Trash at Low Spirits in Albuquerque, NM. Click it!

There’s dinner music, there’s knockin’ boots music and then there’s the all important music in-between…the music to tune the fork to if you will.

I’m not one to claim to have the smarts, book or otherwise, but intuition I got and my intuition about Ambient Trash was that the live show would be an EXPERIENCE and I was so happily right!

Can you spell Crescendo? ‘Cause I can’t but I can feel it and that’s what you’ll do at an Ambient show at the wuthering height of each and every song (and mayhaps if you have a good enough audio system in house ou auto – CDs on sale NOW).

Of the many events we’re fortunate enough to be invited to attend, it’s few and far between that we at OHI are able to attend IRL, and of those few we’re super fortunate to almost always land whale for whale.

This one was a doozy! If you might be interested in achieving the feel of safely sitting on some rhythmic train trax (à la Emily Blunt in NM’s Own Sunshine Cleaning), and seeing some original music performed by musicians who are clearly in it for the love of the game you MUST catch a ride on the Ambient Trash train!

Even the official band wife, who’s surely heard every tune, strum and beat hundreds of times over got her ROCK ON in the audience!

So, if and when you or anyone eh…hmm you know is in need of lil’ hair blowing, bone rattling ROCK tunage, get your LIVE Ambient Trash experience on!

In case you’re not catching my drift let Jackie esplain at the 3:20 mark…
