ALBUQUERQUE, NM – October, 21, 2013 – Vernon’s Steakhouse and organizers of the Walter White Funeral and Final Amends including Jackamoe Buzzell, oneheadlightink.com, Joliesse Chocolates, The Achievement Gallery, and the committed staff from Albuquerque Healthcare for the Homeless (AHCH), and Albuquerque Community Foundation would like to announce a change of location for the Walter White headstone and burial vault.

In response to the petition started by Manuel Montano and views shared by others with concerns over the fictitious grave and headstone at Sunset Memorial Park, it is been decided that a different location would be in the best interest all involved. Michael Baird, owner of Vernon’s Steakhouse states, “It was never our intention to disrespect those who are buried at Sunset Memorial Park or cause pain to their families. We created the Walter White Funeral and Final Amends as a way to have a positive impact on the community and help those who are negatively impacted by the terrible effects of drug addiction and homelessness. We greatly apologize to anyone who was offended, and want to ensure that the focus remains on the amazing work that Albuquerque Healthcare for the Homeless does in our community. I contacted Mr. Montano earlier today to apologize and to let him know of our intention to relocate the headstone and burial vault.”

The headstone was never set in the ground at Sunset Memorial Park, and its final resting place will now be at the Village Shops at Los Ranchos, the home of Vernon’s Steakhouse and Joliesse Chocolates. The organizers are working with Sunset Memorial Park to create a memorial on the Walter White burial plot for homeless people who have lost their lives.
The Walter White Funeral and Final Amends was a great success raising tens of thousands of dollars going to the Vernon’s Steakhouse Walter White Endowment Fund at the Albuquerque Community Foundation benefitting AHCH. The video of the Funeral and Final Amends will soon be available for viewing through a link on the Walter White Funeral website www.walterwhitefuneral.org.

Fans of the show can still purchase bracelets, put their name on the tombstone, or make donations online. By doing so one is contributing to the awareness and prevention of the hardships afflicting so many in our City and assisting in the effort to help end it while ensuring a piece of the tumultuous, yet valuable legacy that Walter White leaves behind. Their purchase or donation will help raise much needed funds to secure substance abuse services to people in Albuquerque who need it most.
Here are the ways the public can contribute:

Walter White Bracelets: $10.00 plus S & H Custom baby blue silicone bracelet imprinted with Walter White’s name.

Name on Walter White Tombstone: $2,000 Your name, or business name on the Walter White tombstone. Includes two custom baby blue silicone bracelets imprinted with Walter White’s name.

Fans can also bid on a painting by Vernon’s resident artist Gabriel Ballantine, which depicts the various faces of Walter White. The painting is being shown at Vernon’s Steakhouse. Starting bids will begin at $5,000.

The owner of the two Yukons, riddled with bullet holes, used in the filming of Breaking Bad and that drove in the Funeral procession has also committed to donating half of the sale price to the cause. Contact Bill Stevens at Bill Steven’s Auto Sales located at 4227 4th St. NW, 505.344.0447.

“Walter White has brought awareness to [Breaking Bad] viewers about the problems associated with drug abuse and homelessness. If his death can generate financial donations to combat drug abuse and homelessness in Bernalillo County, then Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless is a well deserving recipient of those proceeds” said Sheriff Dan Houston of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Departments.

AHCH works with more than 7,000 men, women and children experiencing homelessness every year – including those who are struggling with severe mental health and/or substance use disorders, as well as other illnesses.
According to Loyola Digital Advertising, the ad slots during the Breaking Bad finale cost anywhere from $300,000-$400,000 for a thirty-second time slot. For Albuquerque Heath Care for the Homeless, that amount of money would provide 12-months of free substance abuse services to approximately 70 people. The 12-months of care includes monthly medical clinic visits, monthly or more case manager visits, integrated behavioral health, and full dental care, as needed.
