Tom Holland’s 1985 screenplay will be reworked by Mad Men’s Marti Noxon
maintaining its original plot that centers on teenager Anton Yelchin (Terminator Salavation, NM) and his mother Toni Collette (Little Miss Sunshine, NM) who become entangled then terrorized by Farrell’s vampire next door in this DreamWorks SKG, New Mexico production. Woot!
You may have happily taken-in mega hits like Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, Jerry Bruckheimer’s G-Force or my personal fave Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs without even knowing from whence these productions sprung.
Why the answer is right here in our own backyard. Since 2007 Sony Imageworks has made a home for itself in the Q.
While we make much-ado about the live action productions aqui we gotta a give a big fat nod to the awesomeness (literally) that is Sony Imageworks.
And they ain’t just animatin’ over thar’. In the video above the first forty Imageworks crew that made the maiden voyage to town tout and tell all about how their doubts dispelled on joining us here in the Duke City.

The John B. Robert Dam in the NE Heights has been in NM Productions from Terminator Salvation to Gamer as of late. Like the 6th Street Bridge in Los Angeles of Old Hollywood where the famed Grease finale race scene was shot.
The notoriously papp ridden, star enticing L.A. hang-out The Ivy sits on Robertson Blvd. and serves as the backdrop for many entertainers photo ops and fan ops to sneak a peek at some of their favorite celebs.
Unlike the singularly located Ivy, New Hollywood’s café of choice, Flying Star has multiple sites in our sprawling cityscape and beyond where hipsters, artists, families and even NM’s Own version of a Hem and Fitz may cross paths in their genius.
I’ll tell you: The 2010 U.S. Census Bureau “is currently looking for friendly and outgoing people to conduct in-person interviews with community residents who do not return their 2010 Census questionnaire.
These temporary part-time positions offer good pay and flexible hours, and you will mostly work in your own community.”
Months ago we were preparing to write the first NMXposé, a new Sindication feature that would highlight a New Mexican for their contributions to the community and their industry.
Our first choice was Jaimey Barreras, better known to so many of us as Jaimey B or just Jaimey for his smooth voice and sweet, entertaining sentiments that poured out over the NM airwaves. Well, before we could meet with Jaimey and put together the angle of the feature he was unceremoniously axed.
Luckily Jaimey is approachable and giving as ever and we were able to catch-up with him so that we could inquire as to our beloved baritone’s goings-on as of late:
Sindication:What have you been up to??? Jaimey B:…well I’ve been enjoying the time off with the wife… I’ve been locked in my studio writing music and networking with other musicians.
Sindication: What have you been doing? Jaimey B:Doing voice over work from my home studio. Business is slow but I’m remaining optimistic about the future.
Sindication: What do you hear most from fans lately? Jaimey B:I do keep in touch with fans on Facebook and Myspace and appreciate all their support.
Sindication: How are you feeling about the current state of ABQ (politics, economy, atmosphere)? Jaimey B: ABQ is is still a amazing town to live in and I would not think of leaving. ABQ radio on the other hand leave’s a bad taste in my mouth. I can’t even turn on the radio without a commercial in-progress or the so called talent going on and on about trifle (bleep) contests and they play the same crappy music for those stupid enough to think (they’re) getting something “NEW”. Thank goodness for my iPod!!!
Sindication: You were always doing so much to promote worthy/charitable causes, are you still able to be active in that? Jaimey B: Still helping out ACS and the Breast Cancer Walk.
Sindication: What do you want to say to fans missing you daily? Jaimey B: Thanks for the Love!!! Hugs and Kisses….
If you’re not already linked to Jaimey and you’re missing his warm-funny, connect with him on Facebook or Myspace.
But better you can hear or hire Jaimey. Take a listen here, here and here.
Is it or isn’t it? Polystyrene is a plastic and it can be recycled. Though Albuquerque’s curbside recycling program does not accept Styrofoam (polystyrene), there are mail-in locations all over the country that take care of the nasty, lightweight, air-puffed waste material. Including CO, CA and TX.
If you miss curbside recycling day (paper, cardboard, plastic, tin, aluminum) or if it isn’t available in your neighborhood here is a list of the Q’s recycle drop-off locations (curbside does not accept glass, but the drop-off locations do).
The PAID EXTRAS casting call has been released from Crew New Mexico for principal filming of the upcoming Fox/Rourke flick Passion Play.

businessmen, strippers, carnies, Chinese, models, homeless, military, amputees”, on and on and on…including “ALL types, ALL ages of local Santa Fe/Albuquerque”
Stand-in positions also avail. for the three lead roles.
Unlike the paltry national average of 33% household recycling, University of New Mexico sports arena, The Pit shines in the heart of ABQ. as an example of how it’s done. With a “hard hat and a…smile” (zexy), UNM athletics director, Tim Cass boasts the facts and figures that an astounding 93% of the 43 year old deconstructed arena will be recycled. RECYCLED!
Oklahoma based construction co. Flintco is charged with and executing the green demolition, recycle and reconstruction. The building is required by the University to achieve a silver level of LEED points (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), but Jim Lloyd, project manager of Flintco-West here in Albuquerque is goaling for the gold standard.
“Michael Grant, president of Albuquerque-based Grant & Associates Mechanical, says his company will minimize energy lost to repeated opening and closing of Pit external doors by providing hydronic in-floor radiant heating, created by boiler-driven hot water.” – source
Watch a virtual walk through of the finished product here. Completion is scheduled for the glorious Fall season of 2010.
Green-up: The EPA reports that 75% of what’s in the average garbage can is recyclable. Visit Earth911 to go green.
Public Academy for Performing Arts (PAPA), may be facing some challenges in the building code department as they have had to scoot their 2009-2010 start date and their performing arts booties to a new location, but classes will begin in full force on August 31. Visit them at PAPA.org.
And for you mensas out there be sure to look into programs for your genius such as Albuquerque Institute for Mathematics and Science, a public charter High School located on the UNM campus. Students earn college credits while completing their HS career.
No, those are not mugshots of the stars above. As reported by KRQE news these three stars will soon be shooting their new thriller “The Killer Inside Me” in Santa Fe, expected to bring more film crew jobs and buzz about town.
Kate Hudson seems like she can peyote out in NM, Affleck is a pretty chill dude and more than a decent actor to boot…but this Alba chick can stand to take our boot heel and shove it.
The threesome are due to film in the City Different next month. Hopefully the air up-there will improve “MiserAlba‘s” craptacular acting or at least garner Santa Fe a better review than the one the shiteous actress gave Albuquerque one year ago.
“In Albuquerque there’s really only one restaurant that’s pretty good. You can only take Applebee’s and Chili’s so much. Our big day was hanging out at Wal-Mart for five hours. It was like, ‘Yea Wal-Mart!’”
These are a few of the contestants so far. There’s still time NM Talent. On Tuesday February 17 at 6 p.m. there will be a live audition at Sneakerz – Sportz, Spiritz & Grub – Woot! Woot!
Let’s churn it out NM! As we bid our Jenny Marlowe adieu, let’s pick-us the next best VJ to hit the airwaves to represent. If YOU’VE got what it takes to get on the road to replacing this bobble head – get on it.
I like Seth upon quick review – he’s got a message of goodness and he looks pretty spunky. Soledad and Kathleen are hot, but so are a bunch of others.
The CW’s Reality Competition show America’s Next Top Model will feature New Mexican Model “Fo”, a student from Albuquerque.
Click here to see all the contestants. Why do they all look so angry? Hunger? Well, if fiery is the look they’re going for this year, Fo has a helluva shot. Muy Caliente!
