UPDATE: Now you can also talk to your New Mexico Film Industry Watchdog on Facebook here.
We’re not in the business of running people out of town, however when our readers are wary or vulnerable in their dealings with New Mexico productions, entities and/or organizations, we do want to hear about that and help out where we can.
Last spring we were first to spread the word on what looked like a flyby night entity, which jettisoned into Albuquerque making lofty promises and charging high prices for non-standard industry practices that did indeed end up leaving their “clients” high & dry.
Now there is a new, very different group afoot that we’ve agreed to feature* in their efforts to bring to light some issues they fear may be negative or even detrimental to New Mexico entertainment, talent and events.
The “watchdog group” is currently seeking information about YOUR concerns in working, trying to find work and general dealings in the New Mexico film & entertainment industry. As presented to us, the goal is to try and form productive and positive ways to navigate your way to the best resources available and help industry members stay informed, educated and working.
Your New Mexico Film Office warns cast and crew talent to beware of casting scams on their bulletin board and the New Mexico Better Business Bureau is a resource to track and report bad business practices, but for inside industry talk “Watch E. Dog” is now available to take your information and inquiries about current projects you may be interested in or have any questions or concerns about.
“We have seen them all before, sometimes it feels like the old pay to play (with either your time, equipment, vehicle, or paying for headshots), from film extras in concert scenes to music videos, why is it acceptable for some Casting Companies and Production Companies to use their position, the hope of future casting, the lure of being in a movie etc. to get you to work for free when they are getting paid. Have you done it? Do you regret it? would you do it again? We want to hear the benefits and pitfalls of what some feel is an abuse of the limelight, Sound off and let your voice be heard. Be sure you know what your being asked to do and what you are being paid before working on a project that is for profit.”-W.E.D.
Watch E. Dog asserts that all questions and information submitted will remain anonymous and inquiries will be answered and/or followed-up on as much as possible.
For a fake reporter, such as myself, it’s heartening to know that even during sluggish times in New Mexico Entertainment news I can always count on our friends in the trenches to provide light, yet important fair regarding our state’s coveted celebrity guests.
Like the crack news team, lauded world-wide for bringing you the details on President Barack Obama’s Chile plate preference, I can announce to you today that America’s sweetheart, Jennifer Aniston, recently ordered herself up a plate of….RED!
A girl’s gotta eat right? These are the kinds of facts I like to know about our superstar guests, this and the other widely spreading word on the trail that Ms. Aniston is just as awesome, unpretentious and kind to all those around her as we’ve all heard she is.
Aniston is in town for just a little while longer wrapping-up her latest film, “We’re the Millers” co-starring Jason Sudeikis, Emma Roberts and New Mexico, USA standing-in for Arizona and Old Mexico.
Not since Breaking Bad MADNESS first broke wide open, has our traffic meter hit the kind of highs it’s hitting with the quick success of the A&E series Longmire.
Since its “distinctive premiere”, the quickly green-lit, highly anticipated, contemporary western drama set in WYO is exploding in our search terms, “where is Longmire filmed?”, “Stars of Longmire”, and “Longmire Television Series”.
Goooooooooooooal New Mexico! After the sad goodbye to In Plain Sight earlier this year and the absolutely heart wrenching, impending farewell to our beloved Breaking Bad, Longmire is a bright light in #NMFilm futures sights!
To feed you more awesome, upon awesome in touting New Mexico Film, all reports coming in here say that the CBS series pick-up of the Dennis Quaid 60s era drama will return to New Mexico to shoot! Here’s hoping those (multiple) rumors are TRUE!
In any case we can confirm, proof positive that once again…the WORLD is watching New Mexico Film!
Was Johnny Depp at this weekend’s Albuquerque Comic-Expo? Fellow film star and comic legend The Real Stan Lee was!
While Stan Lee made his highly anticipated appearance at the Expo this weekend, rumors swirled on the floor of the convention center when attendees began to whisper that The Lone Ranger star may have made his disguised way through the crowds.
From the top of the comic-book world totem pole, Lee tweeted graciousness toward Depp who is filming TLR in the Q with:
We purposely came to #Albuquerque late, ‘cause I knew #JohnnyDepp was shooting here today, and I didn’t want to have all the attention of everybody taken away from him and centered on me… And I thought that was the least I could do for a fellow movie star.
–The Real Stan Lee
If you found yourself oddly taken with a “mad hatted”, grey bearded chap at Sunday’s Expo, you may have been comic-crazed face to superstar and newly anointed Comanche, disguised face with Johnny Depp! Did you see him there? Some OHI readers think they did.
UPDATE AUGUST 1, 2012: OLC Casting has just announced prep for casting 2 Guns!!!! Filming will begin in both the Albuquerque and Santa Fe area on 8/20/12. Get to OnLocationCasting.us to register or update your profile to be considered.
Feeling a rise in the fahrenheit here in NM my brothers and sisters?
Well, everything from temperatures to hemlines and everything in-between may be compelled to head upwards, esp. right here in the Q as two of the sexiest men in North America now tread where Tonto and the Lone Ranger (not to mention the molten lava hotness of one Walter White) have already set-up shop.
As we told you hereFIRST, the demi-god of NM’s The Book of Eli and the original god of underwear ad dreams are set to team in the graphic novel turned upcoming mega movie, 2 Guns.
The reports are in that the pair are IN TOWN now, in preparation for the film that will shoot here and in Louisiana later this year.
Drop us a line here if you’re impressed by the duo out & about in the Q.
p.s. we had some kick a** (not really) new pics of The Lone Ranger set for you today, but somebody pitched a fit…so, no cigarro on that, but they are floating around out there…probably sure to surface on KOAT in a few weeks.
Throngs of drooling Jenny McCarthy fans all around the world are sure to join many New Mexikids in their admiration for NM’s Own Brian Urlacher, as the confirmation is in that the pair are indeed a “couple”.
The 39-year-old Love in the Wild host confirmed rumors dating rumors on Thursday when she stepped out with Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher at the Generation Rescue autism charity. With her footballer beau around her arm, McCarthy told reporters that the two are indeed an item.
“I can confirm that yes it’s true, we are dating,” McCarthy said to NBC Chicago. “Go Bears, that’s all I can say.”
But that’s not all!
On the same night, McCarthy and Urlacher, 34, were also spotted getting cozy during a dinner date at Bill and Giuliana Rancic‘s RPM Italian restaurant in Chicago.
It looks like McCarthy’s taking her own advice that she recently spilled to Celebuzz, who told us that it takes at least a weekend in order to find out if you’re seeing the right guy.
“If you spend a few days with somebody, you really get to see that fake self drop away a little bit,” she said. “That helps me know whether I want to move on or keep going.”
Doting mom McCarthy may have found herself a winner in Urlacher, who already has two daughters and a son from previous relationships. McCarthy is the proud mother of her 10-year-old son, Evan.
So while the rest of us you wait to see the 39 year old former playmate hit the pages of Playboy once again, one of our hometown heroes has scored a hook-up with the real thing!

I wouldn’t expect that many of the Bruckheimer/Verbinski cast/crew & Co. would have made their way through the main concourse of the Albuquerque International Sunport, en route to their work on the NM Production of The Lone Ranger, but I don’t know much. Perhaps Wiener would know.
Anyhow, what I do know is that good friend to OHI, NM SAG actor and astute observer, Mr. Manny Baca has noticed an uncanny resemblance between Johnny Depp as Tonto and Sunport flagship art piece and greeter to the world, “Dream of Flight” by Lincoln Fox.
Two beloved figures in scripted drama, near and dear to the hearts and wallets of many in the New Mexico Film industry have inked deals to work new projects as the sun sets on their respective 5 year long NM series.
Mary McCormack is making the move from dramatic series Fed to sitcom mom. The In Plain sight star has been cast to lead a new comedy pilot from the mind behind the HIGHlarious New Adventures of Old Christine.
In Plain Sight star Mary McCormack, has lined up her next series gig, playing the lead in Kari Lizer’s untitled ABC comedy pilot (aka The Unprofessional). The multi-camera comedy, from Warner Bros. TV, centers on Hilary Pfeiffer-Dunne (McCormack), a high-powered executive who, having dominated the corporate America for years, now faces the biggest challenge of her life when she finds herself unemployed and acting as a full-time mom to her two teenagers.
Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan has signed a new overall deal with the studio behind the acclaimed AMC drama series, Sony Pictures TV. The rich 18-month pact kicks in retroactively to November, when Gilligan’s previous deal with the studio expired (he has been working on the show without a contract for the past three months), and will keep him at Sony though June 2013. The deal covers Gilligan’s services as executive producer/showrunner on the final 16 episodes of Breaking Bad, which will begin production in late March. The order will be filmed in two batches of eight episodes, with a break of several months between for writers to work on scripts. The pact also includes development component, with Gilligan expected to focus on new projects for Sony after he wraps Breaking Bad.
You can bet we’ll be following these two developments for you ABQ. Here’s hoping we’ll see these two back in NM productions!
After all, ABC/ABC Family (parent co. Disney) is no stranger to NM and Vince Gilligan has conveyed more than an affinity for the Land of Enchantment…to be continued…
Horribly offensive and vividly imaginative, so is the official website that boasts, NOT TOLL FREE, yet more civil liberties friendly than our own New Mexico area Department of Motor Vehicles, by way of offering an En Español, one stop shop for all things Saul Goodman.
Good man indeed!
The incorrigible Saul Goodman as played by the incomparable Bob Odenkirk, who you may also recognize from Roseanne, Joey, or Arrested Development (no, just me?) lends his goodness to his official working website.
The office webcam alone is a must see but every page, endorsement and philanthropic endeavor are beyond worth the price of admission (site access is toll free).
If you’re in the Q as we oft’ find ourselves, do yourself the service of calling Saul NOW:
Because, whether you’re accepting blue meth in barter from Sessy Jesse, shoplifting from Zachary’s, or slipping on ice outside the window of a city building trying to sneak a peek at the Duke, Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry…Saul Goodman is at the ready to assist you.
From parking tickets to mass murder, if you’re Breaking Bad…Saul Goodman says, “I’ll turn that addiction into a prescription!”
With pre-production set to start in late February and shooting beginning in early March, NM nay the world (which is learning that NM is is indeed a part of the continental United States, largely thanks to the series) is bracing to say, “Adios” to its beloved Breaking Bad.
Though the Emmy winning series is not much for stunts, other than those supremely scripted twists and turns that leave hearts pounding and mouths agape season after season, there is a line of big name, rabid fans who pine to partake of a guest starring role.
New Mexico’s own Demi touts the series, Coco knows it’s the best show on television and now Jaleel (formerly known as Urkel) White wants in!
“I would love to be on ‘Breaking Bad,'” says Jaleel White, best known for playing teen nerd Steve Urkel on nine seasons of the sitcom “Family Matters.” He repeats for emphasis: “I would love to be on “Breaking Bad.”
Silly? Well, you may have not even realized you were seeing White taking on a serious role here and there (see Dreamgirls, House, Psych, Boston Legal) since his Urkel days, and the man can act sans high-waisted denim, suspenders and horn rims, with a strikingly stern and handsome repose.
Yes he’s still funny. Seen below in the 2009 teaser trailer for the web series “Road to the Altar”. Too silly? Well as The Wrap mused, maybe as silly as the hap hazard, oft befuddled and bumbling dad from “Malcolm in the Middle” heading the gritty drama in three time Emmy winning style…
If anyone could seamlessly write the likes of everyone from a Jaleel White or Conan O’Brien to a Demi Moore or (my own personal suggestion) Neil Patrick Harris into the jewel of New Mexico productions crown, it would be the all star team of Breaking Bad writers.
A match-up made in tough-guy heaven — Jason Statham, Clive Owen and Robert De Niro star in Killer Elite. Covering the globe from Australia to Paris, London and the Middle East, Danny and Hunter are plunged into a highly dangerous game of cat and mouse — where the predators become the prey.
