Better than anything on reality TV, this New Mexico raised talent is realizing that his aspirations are becoming a reality well ahead of schedule.
I’d fully expected to eventually feature this young NM son for his successes as a designer – Happily I can already report that at the tender age of 19, NM’s Own Julian Davis is working to make a name for himself in the world of fashion, as he was always meant to do.
With still a few months to go at design school out in L.A., Julian has already been snapped-up by NAVEN Los Angeles.
Recently, between school, work and his dreams I was able to catch-up with the young Mr. Davis.
Here is what he had to say about his latest big move, his roots, inspirations and further aspirations!
Below, a look at Julian, a few of his contemporary sketches, and some of NAVEN’s famed designs – on trend, on celebs and in the press:
I don’t know if it’s the wily eyebrows, the sinewy chest, the oft sported flapper curls or the latest reports on New Mexico’s own Arizona Muse from this year’s Fashion Week being woven into epic tales of bitchery that warm the cockles of my cold, cold heart – but I do know that this Santa Fean is turning the fashion world on its ear for the second year in row!
As I told you here last year, high fashion’s favorite New Mexican has become a runway darling, top fashion houses vie for her pose and Vougue has been keen to feature the beauty on covers from Korea to Australia.
As the story goes a fellow blah, blah, blah, blog fake reporter from Stylite covering Fashion Week was poised to get the goods in the way of interview with our coveted Muse. Instead, this is what he got:
Styleite: Hi, Arizona. We’d love to ask you just a few quick questions!
Arizona: OK. But before you record (we were already recording) would you mind telling me what questions you’re going to ask me?
Styleite: Um (stops recording). Sure! We were going to ask you about your plans for the rest of Fashion’s Night Out, what your plans are for Fashion Week and what shows you’re walking in. Then I was going to ask about what it was like working with David Yurman and what your favorite past campaigns are. And then maybe what you like about New York. Is that OK?
Arizona: OK. Could you pick two of them so there … aren’t so many questions?
Styleite: Yeah, sure! How about your plans for FNO, the week and working with Yurman? (starts recording again).
“It was so much fun to be part of the contest. I had been to the competition in the past but only as an observer. It’s really important to support and encourage Native American arts, and that includes clothing,” – Tom Ford

ICYMI: Capitol City New Mexico recently landed spot no. 16 on GQ’s Worst-Dressed Cities List.
Not so dubious considering that the top 40 boasts basically one city or major metro from almost every state in the nation, including San Diego, CA, Orlando, FL, Buffalo, NY, St. Paul, MN, Detroit, MI save Texas who seems true tops with at least 3 major cities named…
So sits Santa Fe New Mexico sandwiched between Atlanta, GA and Provo, UT.
Fresh on the heels of that prestigious recognition, comes a native take on some of our own.
From the makers of the Palin/Brewer line of vocational toys (not really) comes the New Mexico Inspired line of “Barbies”:
Back in the day this look could get a cook damn near executed…and back when these two polar opposite actresses played equally different sisters apartment pants were all the rage (not really).
Here both ladies are sporting new accessories – Academy Award winning actress Reese Witherspoon with her husband, Hollywood Agent Jim Toth and Jennifer (1shot) Aniston with her latest boyfriend, actor/screenwriter Justin Theroux show us what the new airport chic looks like from both ends of the celebrity totem pole.
So the next time your incognito needs an update remember, new man, classic shades and the airport scarf are IN.
Filming will take place on the weekend of May 28th and 29th in the New Mexico area (Albuquerque, Cerillos, Madrid).
Bandit Brand will be shot on Saturday the 28th and Heyoka Leather on Sunday the 29th. There is a chance that some models may be used for both clothing lines. The duration of each commercial will be approximately 60 – 120 seconds and will capture the essence of each brand through bold and visceral moving images set to awesome music.
The completed spots will be used for online promotion on the clothing line websites. Still photographs will also be taken on set and possibly used for online promotion on the clothing line websites.
Although this is not a paying gig we will be supplying meals, snacks, beverages, and compensation for gas. Models may also get to keep the clothing provided by the designers.
Title: Casting Call for Fashion Shoot
Info: Sunbrella, an innovative fabric company, is doing a fashion photo shoot in Alamogordo mid-November and is looking for new talent as models. The production is looking for children, men and women for four internet videos to be shot in White Sands.
These are paid positions. We are looking for models in the Alamogordo/Las Cruces area.
New Mexico raised, Arizona Muse had what New York Magazine called a “ridiculously strong Fashion Week debut”.
In a four week marathon of model madness last month Muse appeared as the first and last face at BCBG (Max Azria’s latest show), walking for Narciso Rodriguez, Altuzarra, and Marc Jacobs in NYC she was then cast to open and close for Prada’s spring collection as an exclusive. Muse also opened and closed for Miu Miu in Paris on top of her opening looks at Rochas, Chloé, The Row, and Kenzo. And she closed out Yves Saint Laurent.
