nearly two million viewers for its Sunday premiere. The NM production, garnering rave reviews, airs on WGN and is available on Hulu Plus. Catch a rebroadcast of premiere tonight at 8 pm on WGN. See the channel locator on Twitter.
Meanwhile…The Messengers is CASTING NOW, we’re anxiously awaiting word on Longmire 4 announcement, Saul will be here through at least October and NBC’s The Night Shift will be back…to shoot its second season, set to air next Spring/May 2015.
TWO, count ‘em TWO major cable network television pilots headed to NM (unofficially)!
“Stanistan” is a USA Network Comedy/Drama Pilot which follows the staff at the American Embassy in the Middle Eastern country as State Department workers, covert CIA officers and journalists strike a delicate balance of danger and absurdity.
The AMC Comedy pilot for “We Hate Paul Revere” is set in Boston, focusing on two brothers who are comically anti early American industrialist & Patriot Paul Revere, starring Ethan Sandler and Adrian Wenner.
Sidebar: Actual civil unrest in the middle east has lead production of the USA Network drama, “Dig” starring Jason Isaacs and Anne Heche to relocate to NM from Israel. The show is about the FBI investigating a murder in Jerusalem. – Local casting info. to follow.
OHI is excited to announce that two esteemed locals are on the roster to produce the upcoming indie “Bare”. Chad Burris and Mateo Fraizer are producing along with Alexandra Roxo and Christopher J. Scott. The film, directed by Natalia Leite is about a young girl living in Nevada who starts a complicated relationship with a female drifter who introduces her to a darker world and forces her to grow. “Bare” will star Imogen Poots, Riley Keough, Dianna Agron, Chris Zylka, Paz de la Huerta and Rachel Korine. MUCH more to come on this one!
Bonus bit: Another hot indie wraps this weekend, but not before one of its stars posted plenty of “from the New Mexico set” pics on her Instagram, here’s a little gallery of Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting on location filming “Burning Bodhi” in NM!
The independent feature, “Season of Starlings” will be holding a live stage read of the ghost movie/bloodless horror film, in Madrid New Mexico. Now casting ages 10 -20, for the August 14 read. Awesome experience and resume builder! Here is the casting call!
BONUS CALL: Toska Productions is casting a short film in Albuquerque. Paid/non-union, LGBTQ and/or people of color, get the hotlink here.
Saturday Sen. Al Franken will be holding a street rally 10am – close, on Sierra St. south of Central on Nob Hill. Meet & greet him, with some food & entertainment. No worries – “This is not a fundraiser”.
Saturday AND Sunday THIS charity photoshoot is not to be missed! Amazing multi-purpose photos you can treasure forever and/or use to land your first or next role in a New Mexico production! Andrea takes gorgeous photographs and for a crazy low price you can have 100 pics to fill your portfolio or jump start your headshot gallery! DO IT! AND you’ll be helping out local homeless children with their back-to-school supplies. Cant’ beat that!
This Blogette says, don’t cry Burqueños! I see the writing on the Facebook wall just like you and it stings a little, but wait! Filming location and setting are oft two very different animals. Am I right, or am I right, or am I right?
Believe it or not New Mexico has played stand-in for such exotic locales as Egypt, Cali, Wyoming, Mexico, other worlds, other galaxies and yes even the East Coast…perhaps you’re familiar with the story of a mad chemistry teacher who made his way all the way to New Hampshire to escape his drug dealing comeuppance. And that my friends was all filmed right here in New Mexico.
So take heart #NM, come November New Mexico WILL hit the small screen again in Better Call Saul – under the talented hand of Sir Odenkirk, led by Masters Gilligan and Gould, for most if not all of its filming. Now the only other devastating turn of events, besides leaving NM to shoot would be if “Lynette” doesn’t land a role:
p.s. OHI has confirmed with sources within the production that NM is the only location on the shooting schedule for now…
UPDATE 6/12/14: Filming is scheduled to begin, in New Mexico this August!
Writer-director, Matt Ross has tapped a star for “Captain Fantastic”. In fact, much ado has been made of actor Viggo Mortensen taking up the lead in the upcoming film, here, here and here.
Now OHI can exclusively report that the off-the-grid drama will follow in the footsteps of another technology driven thriller which filmed right here in NM.
Like Wally Phister’s New Mexico film, “Transcendence”, “Captain Fantastic” looks like it will explore the intimacies and complications between humans and technology. Both films also share the distinction of being led by a film franchise star. Where Transcendence had Depp (Pirate’s of the Caribbean), Fantastic has The Lord of the Rings’ Aragorn – this time out as a father who will attempt to assimilate back into today’s technological world, after ten years living a disconnected mountain life with his six children.
New Mexico will share filming of Captain Fantastic with Washington State, as the mountains from which we’ll see Mortensen emerge from are those of the Pacific Northwest…
Matt Ross on Mortensen joining the film, to Deadline:
“Viggo Mortensen’s dedication to his craft and to the world of the story he’s telling have been an inspiration to me for years. There is a depth to his art that I greatly admire. Any film he’s in is a film I want to see. He’s one of the greats. Getting to collaborate with him on Captain Fantastic is quite literally the best thing that’s happened to me since my wife asked me to marry her.”
Lynette Howell and Jamie Patricof (The Place Beyond the Pines, Blue Valentine) will produce.
Well, we imagine that it may look something like this. Because, word on the wire is that this flick is headed to NM.
“In the Valley of Violence” is described as a revenge Western set in the 1890s. The film is to be a new turn for writer, director Ti West who is known for his horror pics, The Innkeepers and House of the Devil.
Reports surfaced last month that Travolta and Hawke would be teamed as the leads for the movie. Hawke is due in New Mexico now for filming on “A Good Kill” with January Jones and Zoe Kravitz. Perhaps he will be right back for “In the Valley of Violence”. Here’s hoping!
For his part on the updates front, filmmaker West has already dashed early speculation that the movie would be another horror under his belt.
Perhaps an upcoming update will include, “headed to NM!” “I the Valley of Violence is scheduled for a 2015 release.
As we reported here, it’s red for Jen – and now it looks like the A-list actress may also be adding zia flag yellow to her palette, as reports are surfacing that the #NMFilm star is estate hunting in the Land of Enchantment.
KOB-TV says that Aniston has a property broker on the lookout for a Taos area New Mexico retreat, akin to that of Oscar winner & NM res. Julia Roberts.
Aniston spent time in New Mexico last fall while filming We’re the Millers with Jason Sudeikis and Roberts’ niece, Emma. Her time here was not without media scrutiny or scandal, as it was in Santa Fe that the star debuted her mega rock/rink engagement ring and this story made the news of a chatty resort worker getting canned for speaking on an inquiry about the actress.
Even so, other accounts claim that Aniston is looking to NM for a “retreat”, an “escape”. Well, our vast landscapes and broad vistas may be just the ticket for the tabloid darling to get away from incessant reports about the length of her hair or lack thereof and her wedding plans or lack thereof.
If the Greek goddess is indeed New Mexico bound, BIENVENIDOS! And Jen, if you do join us, please be inspired to invest in the independent #NMFilm scene. Your next “The Good Girl” role or break-out directorial/executive producing gig couldn’t ask for a better backdrop!
The bad news is that arguably one of the greatest things to ever happen to New Mexico Film Production is coming to a close.
The good news (among much good news) is, there is still time to get your very own piece of the wonderment that is Breaking Bad, before cast and crew pack-up, move out of the studio lot and select locations around the Q, and ride off into the annals of NMFilm history!
But perhaps the best news of all is that this now iconic piece of New Mexico will likely never die! Breaking Bad is and will remain one of the greatest scripted dramas the world of television (or any screen for that matter) has ever known – and Albuquerque will always have its place among the ever righteous cast and crew that has made it so!
With that, keep your eyes and ears open for the exciting things to come in the final days of filming right here in New Mexico. Bryan Cranston is making the rounds visiting local media outlets to say goodbye, promote the show and as always is working hard to help out and inspire in the community!
Here he is this morning on the air with JTD on the Peak, where among many things he shares that he WILL keep his NM home after the show wraps…additionally Bryan dishes just a bit on his feelings about the upcoming show finale.
Also this morning, Cranston and Steven Michael Quezada on the 94 Rock Morning Show >>
And finally, THIS BLOGETTE can exclusively report on some underground gossip that strongly suggests that there is more than just one ending to the epic series being filmed! IN FACT word on the wire is that there will be up to FOUR ultimate endings shot, with only the man himself, namely MR. VINCE GILLIGAN, knowing which will air on the historic night of the show’s close…
In addition to the rumblings on the web about the upcoming Captain America:The Winter Soldier shoot being delayed from spring to summer, there are also whispers in the wind that good ol’ New Mexico and El Capitán may not be completely DUNZO after all…
From this HIGHly respected speculative reporting post we can tell you that the Captain of NM’s own AVENGERS may be returning to a sound stage near YOU!
In the supremely secretive world of development on into pre-production, NO OFFICIAL confirmations will likely ever become avail. until any such projects are well into production or sometimes even nearly wrapped.
Do take note though, when you’re talking to your NM Film Friends who may crew, star or otherwise regularly staff NM productions, and their eyes take on a particular glaze, just know that that is likely the moment when visions of their signature on an ironclad non-disclosure agreement (NDA) is crossing their mind (otherwise known to us as the patented “Disney Daze”).
But eventually when someone tells someone, who tells someone, who hears something from someone (probably one of the wonderful wait staff of a New Mexico small business), we will get the anonymous suggestion in our firstname.lastname@example.org or on our tip-line 505.510.1006, that says, “yeah, he’s here”. Meanwhile we wait…
While much of New Mexico is bracing to Break Sad, as Albuquerque’s beloved hit television show is furiously and frigidly shooting its final eight episodes of the entire series, it looks like one epic guest star has joined the Breaking Bad family, local cast & crew for the springtime finale run.
Last week, Breaking Bad Star Dean Norris released the pic above, all but confirming that the Malcolm in the Middle spouses are reuniting for the show’s upcoming swan song episodes…Just days before that it apears Kaczmarek herself tweeted, “”Yes, it’s true… I will indeed be on #BreakingBad. Can’t wait for you all to see it. Congrats to @BryanCranston for his win tonight.”"Yes, it’s true… I will indeed be on #BreakingBad.”
Meanwhile show reps are on record saying that Kaczmarek’s presence on set is for an appearance limited to the show’s straight-to-DVD extras.
EXCLUSIVE: …Tommy Lee Jones has lined up his next directing vehicle, as he’s set to write and direct THE HOMESMAN, a period pic he’ll also produce and topline. Story follows a pioneer woman and a claim-jumping rascal of a man (Jones) who usher three insane women on an odyssey from Nebraska to Iowa. Jones made his directorial debut with the 1995 TNT telepic THE GOOD OLD BOYS, which starred Jones and his fellow Oscar winners Sissy Spacek and Frances McDormand, as well as an up-and-coming thesp named Matt Damon.
Whispers in the wind say that this Tommy Lee Jones helmed project is tentatively scheduled to shoot in New Mexico for three months starting this March!
Complimenting Jones’s writing, producing and directing it is exclusively being reported that acclaimed cinematographer/writer/director, Rodrigo Prieto (Argo, Brokeback Mountain, Babel, 21 Grams) has signed on as Director of Production.
AND if The Wrap’s exclusive report holds true, none other than Oscar winners, Meryl Streep and Hilary Swank will co-star!
Fingers crossed! We loves us some Tommy Lee Jones ACTION!
Following a year of messy headlines, detailing the ugly divorce battle between Dr. Paul Nassif and New Mexico born Adrienne Maloof, it appears that fellow “Real Housewife of Beverly Hills” star, Brandi Glanville is confirming that Maloof is now intent on suing her for some choice words bleeped out of the latest episode of their hit reality show!
“After what could be called a confusing episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Brandi Glanville wrote in her Bravo Blog that she regrets what she said about Adrienne, and that once again her mouth got her in to trouble… expensive trouble. She’s goes on to say that she pissed off the wrong rich person. You can read what has been reported about what Brandi allegedly said on the episode here. When a fan on Twitter asked Brandi what she said, she replied, “The truth,” but she couldn’t say what, “because she doesn’t want any more lawyer bills.” Bravo was not allowed to air what was said because of legal reasons…”
New Mexicans may remember the Maloof’s as the former owners of all the local Warren Properties and the Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown. Until 2010 the Maloof’s had exclusive proprietorship rights to the distribution of Boston Beer Company, Coors, Corona, Guinness, Heineken, Miller, Red Bull, and Tecate products throughout New Mexico. They sold Maloof Distributing in 2010 to Admiral Beverage Corporation.
For the past ten years the Maloof family has owned the NBA team, The Sacramento Kings. The family owns The Palm Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada; and are one of the largest single shareholders in Wells Fargo Bank.
The family also has their hands in entertainment and media with Maloof Productions and Maloof Music. The former being responsible for bringing us, Living Lohan in 2007…
In related ~news, Leann Rimes is performing in Albuquerque tonight…
Yay or nay?
Personally, I like what Disney has done with their purchase of New York City…ABC is doing quite well, and I have no doubt that if a port for Disney Cruise Lines in New Mexico would suit them, the Walt Disney Company could pull it off!
I have long been awaiting a sizable investment in the Land of Enchantment by the multinational mass media conglomerate. After all we have seen them here, from the Avengers to The Lone Ranger, Disney has built it and COME!
With the recent purchase of all things Lucas how long will it be until we’re all suited-up in our Storm Trooper best? Hell, most of us are replete with prêt-à-porter Tatooine garb!
We’ve also got no shortage of Fanbois and girls (both domestic and imported)! From our ever growing and increasingly acclaimed Comic & Sci-fi Conventions to the long lived lore of being the birthplace of the Alien Autopsy, we are proudly geekcentric!
Now that the rumblings have begun, via the email@example.com, that the Imperial scout-abouts have landed in NM, every Star Warsophile should sit-up and take notice!
Don’t blow this one Susana…
The lifelong muse and immortal beloved of Tim Burton is in town for her part in Disney’s The Lone Ranger movie.
While New Mexico is known for playing it cool and letting our visiting celebs go about their b’niss uninterrupted like…Helena Bonham Carter was particularly unbothered by the kindest gentlest local celeb in town when they were face to face at our own uptown Trader Joe’s.
If she’d been a snake, she couldda bit him. But our unassuming, beloved morning radio show bearer of sunshine and light, Donnie Chase of 100.3 The Peak couldn’t have ID’d the star to save his life or hers when they recently crossed paths.
The star encounter sighting prompted a storm of celeb encounter reports on the JTD Morning Show facebook page.
Do you have a NM Celeb Encounter story or pic? Send us what you’ve got! Vintage pics, à la you w/ the cast of Young Guns, Natural Born Killers, All the Pretty Horses, etc. especially WANTED! Tell us about your NM Celeb Encounter: firstname.lastname@example.org
I wouldn’t expect that many of the Bruckheimer/Verbinski cast/crew & Co. would have made their way through the main concourse of the Albuquerque International Sunport, en route to their work on the NM Production of The Lone Ranger, but I don’t know much. Perhaps Wiener would know.
Anyhow, what I do know is that good friend to OHI, NM SAG actor and astute observer, Mr. Manny Baca has noticed an uncanny resemblance between Johnny Depp as Tonto and Sunport flagship art piece and greeter to the world, “Dream of Flight” by Lincoln Fox.
Between dueling chopper shots* of a mysterious and remote set, to our own ABC** affiliate broadcasting their interview with the New Mexico extras casting director for The Lone Ranger (record scratch…aka “Silver Bullet” – worst kept secret in town btw and there’s a lot of ‘em) Disney’s The Lone Ranger continues kicking-up dust in the New Mexico desert like no other production before it has.
You may recall this whole extravaganza kicked-off when this was the shoot that almost never was, but director, producer and stars alike dug in their boot heels and made it happen. Salary cuts and budget wrangling aside The Lone Ranger will likely continue to spur controversy right up until its DVD/Blu-ray™ release.
So while Marvel’s** entire crew of mighty Avengers were able to sweep in and out of town with ~less ruckus than TLR has had thus far, don’t count the masked man, his loyal sidekick or New Mexico out of the controversial headlines for the duration of filming.
Why, even our little space here on the web has been hit with a trickling trail of fury when this blogger chose to publish these pics sent in to us of some rather generic western props – leading to some healthy industry banter?
“Shame on you for posting this! Is your purpose to support the NM film industry and the local New Mexican’s [sic] it employees [sic] or are you one of the weak links in the chain that will cause what remains of the NM film industry to most certainly disappear?” – fb comment
“It must be pictures like these that drove them away from Hollywood….”
- Industry Journalist
Wielding this kind of power delusion to stir-up such controversy, perhaps this blogger can now lead the charge in the next round of TLR Escándalo:
One of the most hotly contested debates from the word “Yo” on this project was the casting of the still smoldering Johnny Depp as Tonto.
While this touch of Chinese, Mexican girl with smatterings of alleged Native American and Irish descent can appreciate the demand to cast true to race, the bigger picture on this big picture is clear, and that is that hundreds of many races now have a chance at work on this sure to be blockbuster New Mexico production (unlike this lost production – but I’m the one running film out of NM).
BUT MOREOVER – The smoking (pun intended) hot Armie Hammer, who’s cast as The Lone Ranger himself, IS NOT FROM TEXAS!
The LONE RANGER was written as a Texas cowboy qué no? Boy is from L.A. Escándaloso up!
Roll out the welcome mat and the cash register receipts NM!
Following this weekend’s four corners reports that Tonto himself was out and about everywhere from Shiprock to Gallup, the social web has lent to the speculation in the past couple of days that Johnny Depp has now made his way to the Q.
There is ZERO confirmation that the mega star is in our midst just yet, but his arrival is eminent, and with his international acclaim the swarms of media wanton for the latest installment of anything Depp are sure to follow.
Even though Tonto his Ranger and the rest of the Disney cast & crew set to ride into New Mexico have yet to go public with their arrival, and just because Depp’s publicized shopping stops at Target, Three Rivers Brewery, or Sammy C’s may be pure fiction doesn’t mean that NM can’t play supreme host to those hot for a Southwestern Depp fix.
Good luck TMZ [not]. New Mexico is a safe haven for stars and so much more! ¿Que no? Enjoy the local cuisine pappos!
Locals: If you get a tip or pic keep it local here with your friendly neighbor-hood NM Entertainment website!
Got nepotism? Show biz is full of it and many, many other things including over inflated egos. In today’s installment of ungrateful much, little known actress not Sophia Sandra Vergara recently made news when deciding and broadcasting that N. Mex, specifically ABQ was not up to her high standards (of rampant alcohol consumption).
Uh, wrong, wrong and wrong dummy. Twin Peaks is not a strip club it’s a restaurant chain, NM has more drink to offer than we know what to do with, and Albuquerque spans farther than the three block length you in your all knowing ways chose to slam.
‘Not Sophia’ has obviously yet to learn the Scoville Scale to New Mexico (see: six degrees to Kevin Bacon) because in her lack of gratitude for being a working actress she also managed to diss the hometown of one of her sister’s co-stars. Um, lil bully.
Get the full story here from KOB-TV and see the entire talk show appearance where Vergara pokes at the Q here.
Step to the back of the line b-rate. Bigger, far more recognizable stars have perpetrated worse digs against our beloved Nuevo México. Take a cue from ABQ friendly a-lister and star of the movie you were here filming and earning money for…the famously crass, heartthrob and actual celebrity – Irishman Colin Farrell, who had no trouble getting his anything on while in the Q.
Finally instead of letting “what’s-her-name’s” quotes lead the parade today, check the bigger digs, here, here, here and here. But I have to hand the Quote of the Day award to:
“I would not know that actress if i fell over her. Albuquerque rocks, she can go and DO ONE as we say in England!” – NM Actor by way of the UK
Update: More delusions from Vergara on how her sister’s fame has NOT helped her ~career and best of all a rationalization on why Colin Farrell DID NOT go for her on location here as told to the LatinoVoices edition of the Huffington Post…(thanks Cheryl)
