Joe Knows

Posted by on November 28, 2010 | 4 comments

With minimal blog speak (like none), sparse images and the light of a thousand suns, Joe Monahan writes (and writes) the Best Blog of the City, that city we all call The Q.

Just call me Kanye, because as some of you may know I openly campaigned, like Kanye for Beyonce, to be voted Numero Uno in the Q’s shiniest, glossiest mag but alas…Joe, the winner of the coveted title back in ’08, takes the top spot again!

He is now and forever my Taylor Swift. You can only imagine the sting (well, Diane Denish can more than imagine it) esp. for someone like me who took the Narcissism Test as presented by JTD and scored a whopping 35 on a scale of 1 to probably 30.

Check out Joe’s Best of the City Blogspot here, where he prolly (blog speak) won’t even make mention of his big win! Seriously, he’s like really smart and informative – It’s like the adult companion to your/my real life.

Congrats to all the winners and the runners-up (that’s us we’re #5, we’re #5 {sigh})! And now my annual tribute to this contest:

Sexy Minska

Posted by on October 12, 2010 | Comments Off

Derek Jeter’s current piece is named this year’s “sexiest woman alive” by Esquire magazine.

Minka Kelly is a New Mexican who currently stars in the TX based TV series Friday Night Lights. I’d wax more poetically over the Q’s own earning this award of objectification if I thought any more of her.

On the contrary it’s a bummer to hear her quotes about her “boring life in Albuquerque” and a shame that she allegedly suffered bullying in her pre-teen years here and seems to be whining instead of empowering with both those reflections.

But, they’re her reflections so to each his own. And if she has any words of praise for her home state I hope she’ll let ‘em out into the public eye because New Mexico’s a Globe-go with buzz of Kelly’s honor playing out all over the world!

Congratulations Minka-nunca!

If you’d like to be further annoyed by her click the pic to go to Esquires featured video with painfully clear audio.

Actor Luke Wilson sits down with tv.com to talk-up his 2009 movie Middle Men, shot next door in AZ. When asked about doing a “real western” someday the actor said:

“Somebody asked me today ‘Is there anything you’d like to do?’ That’s definitely at the top of the list. I’d like to do a sports movie too, but being from Texas and being a big Eastwood fan, last night I was watching ‘High Plains Drifter’ for, like, the fiftieth time and I would definitely like to do a western. Those kind of themes, simple stories, and just the idea of being on location in New Mexico or Montana just seems like it would be incredible.” – Full Article

Modern Day Soc.

Not just for FarmVille and Class Reunions anymore, Social Media runs the gamut from pig-tail pulling to big business dealing. Write your own epitaph, all but eliminate the paparazzi, catch the news – make the news.

When our own local Queen of Social Media puts on a Tweetup that rivals multi-corporation, veteran mainstream media sponsored functions by engaging the power of her social network, promotions and marketing campaigns live or die by the ‘re-tweet’, and the local and national news alike pull threads and report direct from Facebook you’ve gotta take notice.

When the ‘Greasers’ take on the ‘Socs’ in the Outsiders you can’t help but wish that they would just meet in the middle. Get on the Inside, get your ‘Soc’ial Media on to connect in the fastest most effective way possible (if you stroke your keys right).

Where else can you catch a movie, write a review, post an audition, shop til you drop, take a look in a book, spread the word, declare your love, learn a trade, make a pitch and so much more.

Just ask local sensation Ryan McGarvey, fresh off Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Festival, what Social Networking helped do for him…

To learn your way around a Social Network and how to best utilize Social Media right here in New Mexico check with our friends at Drake Intelligence Group (ABQ the Mag Best of the City write-in candidate for Best Category We Left Out: Best Social Media Personality), Ashley Drake Gephart and her network-in-the-know will hold your hand till you’re a social media maven yourself!

And don’t forget to connect with your fellow Soc. Media novice Sindicator on Twitter et al (FaceBook, Myspace, RSS) or good ol’ fashioned email.

NM’s Own KRQE Situation

Posted by on April 23, 2010 | 2 comments

KRQE Mornings et al have captured my attention with their various teasers leading up to the eventual unveiling their brand new studio. But more than that thanks to Jay Leno’s perpetual un-funniness and my affinity for East Coast wit I’ve been falling asleep on the #3 CBS with Dave Letterman (after KASA Fox 2 news and TMZ of course), which has led to some early mornings with Deanna and Mike.

Mike’s voice and delivery are downright hypnotic, and as I stare at him I realize that he’s the calmer, newsie version of the seductively intense Alec Baldwin. Both Mike and Deanna seem even clearer than usual too, maybe their temporary mouse-hole diggs are equipped with better cameras. AnysupermagnifiedHD, they are like 3X life size and clear as day.

Which has brought about a new found appreciation for Deanna’s saucey Paula Abdul look, and though I have never seen her abs, those enviable eyebrows definitely garner a NM’s Own Situation award.

and p.s. it’s nice that KRQE Mornings and the CBS Morn’ Show don’t have a damn ticker at the bottom of the screen distracting my ADD***!

Globe Noms are OUT, NM is IN

Posted by on December 15, 2009 | Comments Off

Quote of the day re: golden globes goes to my all time favorite blah, blah, blogger:

“If Meryl sat in front of a web cam, and recited from Chris Brown’s now-defunct Twitter account while wearing an “I Love Tiger Woods” half-shirt, she’d still get a nomination.” – Michael K. on Meryl Streep’s two nominations today.

New Mexico hits the list of feature film nominees three times with NM’s Own Pretty Woman nominated for her role in Duplicity, Tobey Maguire in Brothers and Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart – both filmed here in NM.

New Mexico takes television nods with the NM production of Georgia O’Keefe for best mini, Joan Allen and Jeremy Irons for respective roles in that series. NM’s Own Neil Patrick Harris for How I Met Your Mother and ABC’s
Modern Family starring NM native Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

For the complete list of 2010 nominees, including Meryl’s double dip for Julie & Julia and It’s Comlicated, click here.

Labels, Labels Everywhere

Posted by on November 10, 2009 | 2 comments

Here’s a glimpse of the notorious Suge Night taking a chill in the Q last week. Many who came in contact with the embattled record label giant wondered what he was doing in town – perhaps he was here to consult with Lobo Athletics.

Along with the brighter lights and bigger personalities that come with this NM city rapidly shooting into super stardom, a huge fear of entertainment industry opponents et mucho mas is a possible jump in crime and violence.

Who needs the bloods and the crips when you’re a Lobo? At least that’s a possible impression some Lobo community leaders have been leaving across the globe. With the proverbial black eye, fat lip and foul plays coming out of the UNM athletics department as of late, Marion is the least of our worries.

Six Ways to a Public Feud, NM

Posted by on November 6, 2009 | One comment

This it said/she said battle has all the emotional subtlety of an episode of Divorce Court. And like those duels where one party may maintain their tact, civility and at least a grasp on reality while the other side flakes-out all emo, this word slinging is oh so juicy.

The current rap of these two respective reps of the Q equate to one side speaking out as the other lashes-out, hurling inaccuracies and labeling the other’s opinion as they may receive it vs. how it is presented.

Nobody said your momma wears army boots or that you foster negativity rather than positively contributing to your environment! Sheesh! What would frankie say? He’d probably tell you that there are seven days in a week.

We leave it to you to decide what’s what in this not so sordid blog/comment conflict between this weekly alibi.com blogger and the Director of the New Mexico Film Office regarding the state of the State’s grasp on Hollywood.

Sindicator Says, Hmmmmm…

ABQ v Alibi

Me thinks somebody may have a ‘lil case of Gloss Envy. I don’t regularly get to pick-up a copy of the latest Albuquerque The Magazine, because I’m poor. But I’m almost always able to grab the free, alternative pulp, known to the Q as the weekly alibi.

It seems that the alibi’s web editor has her own feature in the print newspaper this week entitled, “Thin Line – Media Criticism” and criticize she does. Slamming ABQ. the Mag for their annual Hot Singles issue and Par-TAY!

Now as I say, I’m not able to subscribe, but I have been to a few of the Mag’s parties and they are always top shelf, blow-out, blasts! And while the editor bemoans the issue for its topic, content, matchmaking, and further labels the readers and participants with what I presume are supposed to be negative clichés, I couldn’t help but notice that the pulpit from which she preaches contains no less than seven back pages that feature advertisements for flesh pedaling, skin shows and/or lewd personals.

In the end, the alibi editor begrudges ABQ. The Mag its “camp”. And I’m sure the Mag would not deny the alibi matchmaking of its own, like that in its interactive, online Love Bird personals.
