New Mexico’s own resident Guitar God, Ryan McGarvey has teamed with the innovative, life-enriching organization StringsforaCURE™, saying:
“I’m so incredibly honored to work with this organization, and to help for such a worthy cause. Please take a look at the great pieces of jewelry that they were able to make from my guitar strings. All proceeds go to help those with breast cancer.”
Elisa Guida, a two-time breast cancer survivor and jewelry designer, transforms guitar strings into one-of-a-kind bracelets, earrings, pendants and rings. Net proceeds are used to fund the foundation’s efforts to educate, comfort and support cancer patients. The foundation focuses primarily on helping those with breast cancer.
The StringsforaCURE™ Foundation helps women and men diagnosed with cancer, primarily breast. Our mission is to provide education, comfort and support to cancer patients, focusing on the breast cancer patient. We help the patient directly by providing gas, grocery or pharmacy gift cards. We also provide educational materials, comfort baskets and medical grants. We want to ease the burden during their cancer journey. We raise awareness on how important nutrition and wellness plays a part in the recovery of the cancer patient.
National and international musicians donate their used guitar strings to StringsforaCURE™, and I transform them into one-of-a-kind bracelets, earrings, pendants and rings. We also raise funds through our online Virtual Quilt, our Pennies2Patients Program and Pickin’ On Cancer fundraiser and also through private donations.
My dream is to recruit many nationally known musicians – including Eric Clapton, Sheryl Crow, Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen, among many others – to donate their strings to the foundation. We have received strings from several famous musicians, such as Jon Bon Jovi, Melissa Etheridge, Paul Rodgers, Joe Bonamassa to mention a few. -Elisa Guida, Executive Director
The StringsforaCURE foundation is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization, and a Green Foundation. Their jewelry is made in the U.S.A. with net proceeds used to fund the foundation’s efforts to educate, comfort and support cancer patients.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM, August 1, 2012—Last year the New Mexico Philharmonic presented an avant garde program at the KiMo Theatre that featured electronic music and innovative film. This year, the PULSE concert is bringing an important question to the forefront: How would you change the world?
The answer came in the unusual form of New Mexico-produced documentaries with music from a New Mexico composer performed and produced by New Mexicans that truly touch the heart.
This amazing and unique collaboration comes to life on Sunday, September 30th at 4 p.m. in the most New Mexican of places, the historic KiMo Theatre with stories that highlight global issues and combine a magical performance by the New Mexico Philharmonic with the viewing of incredible scenes from two documentary films.
The issues covered include homeless children and solutions to the homeless issue in the Emmy® Award winning Documentary “LOOKING IN: Children Who are Homeless.” One of the solutions to global warming/climate change is the focus of the national PBS documentary, “The First Millimeter: Healing the Earth.”
The musical score to each of these programs was composed by New Mexico musician Jeffrey R. Jolly. The documentaries were produced and directed by New Mexican Chris Schueler. In, addition, for each of the films vocalists—a children’s choir for “Healing the Earth,” and the New Hope Full Gospel Baptist Church Choir for “Looking In”—will bring stirring performances that enhance the auditory experience.
A group of talented teachers and students from the Albuquerque Studios Film & Technology Academy of the Atrisco Heritage Academy High School as well as from DATA Charter High School will compile a video project that will be screened to the music of Albuquerque composer Daniel Davis.
Don’t miss this inspirational program created by New Mexicans for New Mexicans that will move you in new and surprising ways.

This man has a NUMBER ONE rating in Japan and all over the Orient, he has worked with NM’s Own Mike Cee Carpenter…and he has captured the heart and speaks to the soul of the TRUEST TRUEEB…(true Eric Benet fan).
You know her…we all love her, NMFilm’s regular gal Friday – Thursday, eight days a week, every waking hour, SANDI KAY!
As a charter member of his U.S. fan club she needs to get in with Eric Benet and get the recognition she deserves as his number one fan so that she can bring him here.
Sandi’s been instrumental in getting countless shows, performances and productions rolling. Help us, help her bring her favorite performer to town…
Just check out this super-romantical video, share this link and help us get some “True Love” into New Mexico!
…Nose on, shirt off Tonto, annnnnnnd the Ranger dons his silver during the recent Monument Valley, Utah portion of The Lone Ranger production.
The star and the super-producer then headed off to Cinemacon where they laid out the following regarding their upcoming cinematic rendition of the long lored Ranger and Tonto:
“We always take a different approach to things and this is a different approach. Putting Johny Depp as Tonto, isn’t a trusted sidekick… he’s more of a spiritual character.” –Jerry Bruckheimer
“It is sort of a rock-n-roll version of The Lone Ranger. It is fast paced, high velocity and it’s quite funny.” –Johnny Depp
Meanwhile, Slash is due in the Q, where filming rolls on and on, on TLR. Wonder if Johnny will hit the stage with him like he did w/Manson in recent weeks…
That’s Albuquerque native (and St. Pius X alum) Sean Kelly accordioning & strumming on the late 1990s hit “Kiss Me” with Sixpence None the Richer.
The song was featured on the teen drama series Dawson’s Creek, the movie She’s All That and played during the worldwide telecast of the wedding of England’s Prince Edward in 1999.
Bonus Strings: Is that Albuquerque born Freddie Prinze Jr.? And that’s Rachael Leigh Cook (stars of She’s All That)…who was just here for her first ABQ Comic Con.
In a quest to push American music beyond the stratosphere, the Foo Fighters have announced their intentions to record their next album in outer space!
Why not? Their fans and the Grammys were “over the moon” (forgive me M.K) for the back to basics garage band recording methods on their most recent album…
As you and the whole wide world ought to know, there’s only one way to launch the Foos into space and that means first stop, NEW MEXICO baby!
Yes, the one and only commercial spaceport on the planet calls The Land of Enchantment home. So, in addition to the Foo ties that bind our great state to the band, their galactic transit aspirations would bring them our way again!
Say it ain’t so JoeJim James! In the name of dashed sports dreams everywhere, the good sportsmanship of Albuquerque’s favorite band is being put to the test.
Last month, beloved Albuquerque band The James Douglas Show was asked to perform at Jim McMahon’s Swang N’ Super Bowl Charity Bash 2012 on February 2nd in Indianapolis, the home of the Super Bowl. This high-profile celebrity event is a charity concert benefiting The Lynda McMahon Ferguson Literacy Foundation and Hope for the Warriors.
The JDS is honored to be invited. Check them out here on the list of headliners…
HOWEVER last week, their travel sponsor backed out – now band, bus and gear are all sidelined and they need our help!
A word from The Jame Douglas Show:
“…we do not have the funds necessary to make it to this show…and it is a BIG show. Most of the other performers on this bill have support from record labels to pay their expenses…that is not the case for The JDS. Most (if not ALL) of our travel expenses have come out of our own pocket from performances we do. However, traveling to and from Indianapolis would cost FAR more than what this organization can afford on its own…especially since we just returned from a two-week run of Nevada and California [dates].”

Yesterday on what would’ve been his 75th birthday, the late great rock-n-roll music pioneer Buddy Holly received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!
Home to Holly and origin of “the Crickets” is your very own Clovis, New Mexico.
New Mexico’s Own Norman Petty was the ground breaking musician, songwriter, and record producer who recorded in his home based, now world renowned Clovis Studio with the likes of Roy Orbison, Buddy Knox, Waylon Jennings, Carolyn Hester and of course Buddy Holly.
Buddy Holly and the Crickets recorded such hits as Peggy Sue, That’ll be the Day and Everyday in the Clovis studio.
Visit the studio here with widow Vi, to see where all of the above crafted some of history’s favorite music – including where Roy Orbison busted out the first renditions of Pretty Woman!
What do you get when you mix Jessica Rabbit with The Fabulous Baker Boys at Vernon’s Black Diamond Lounge?
You get to see a new & saucy side of sultry NM Actress Monique Candelaria!
Starting in September the beauty will be performing in the Black Diamond Lounge – with atmosphere and a showcase for talent like no other we cannot wait to see what Ms. Candelaria brings to the stage!
In a completely different turn Monique has recently been cast in the sure to be thrilling 3D Horror film The Banshee Chapter.
The globe is buzzing about this film being executive produced by Zachary Quinto. Director Blair Erickson is already in pre-production at NM’s Own I-25 studios.
Here for your viewing and listening pleasure is a brief cameo by Monique in the James Douglas Show music video for Remember Me (don’t blink, lots of local celebs):
Well knock me down with a golden, crispy french fry!
The Golden Arches’ commercial goodness that rings so true and near & dear to my carotid artery filled heart (not really, I hope), a spicy version of the jingle that entices the world over to that all American treasure boasts New Mexico’s golden, chameleon voice singing its praises!
That’s right the hottest version of the McDonald’s all time best jingle, “I’m lovin’ it!” is vocalized by New Mexico’s own James Douglas! You know him, he’s the front man of a lil’ local gone global band, the amazing, the mesmerizing, the one and only…THE JAMES DOUGLAS SHOW!!!
The whirlwind that is this tour has already performed at the season 2 premiere of NM’s Own (and now mainstream’s only Hispanic lead comedy show) The After After Party with Steven Michael Quezada, visited with 2 Kasa Fox on New Mexico Style and given a bevvy of interviews between appearances.
HERE with OHI fave Bad Boy Carlos D on 93.3 KOB Pop Music Malakar took a min. or two to talk the Q and beyond!
As he tells it straight to our resident Bad Boy Albuquerque has a few more up-close and in person performances ahead from the tour including Vernon’s Black Diamond Lounge, Knuckleheads, Nativo Lodge…
Thanks to 93.3 for the intimate audio with the Idol!
I hear he’s super sweet, shy & a big fan of cookies…
Here’s a taste of the Sanjaya’s current sound: (and be sure to click the links above to see & keep up with the rest of his ABQ visit)
NM’s Own Malcolm Shelby (you know you know ‘em) aka MXK raps about the BK New Mexico style…if you pay attention you may catch a glimpse of American Idol Sanjaya Malakar singing along!
As any good Friendsophile will tell ya’ LOBSTERS ROCK!
And as another local lovely lady in-the-know, who happens to be partnered with her own strapping blue-eyed man can tell you, these two best friends for life are as beautiful a pairing of souls as they are easy on the eyes!
Congratulations to NM Media Darling Antoinette Antonio and her charming & talented fianceé Mr. Jeremy Fine!
We ALL know & love Antoinette from her KOB-TV anchor seat. Jeremy too is a KOBer, behind the scenes as a Chief Photographer and Broadcast Engineer by day and a musician extraordinaire by night with Of God and Science!
