Well, here are three outlets for boys and girls alike where substance rather than infamy through idiocy is priority:
Brought to you by none other than former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, iCivics.org teaches A. No. 1 the definition of CIVICS. The web based education project is “designed to teach students civics and inspire them to be active participants in our democracy.”
Like the extinction of arts and physical education, there is overwhelmingly no financial planning taught in primary school – thus we are all primed and ready to fall into debt and economic despair fresh out of the uncultured, unhealthy gates. BizKid$.com aims to teach while lending a clue to both youth and adults about how and why to take care of personal economics.
The smart hilariousness of Amy Poehler sweeps the web in her series Smart Girls at the Party where they, “celebrate extraordinary individuals who are changing the world by being themselves.” The humor fueled web series gets eye to eye with young women using their voice to encourage and inspire each other to be confident in being a smart girl!
This pic gives me the warm fuzzies on this cold Winter’s night. Here’s NM’s Own Brat Pack including Toots, Mugsy & Viv (Vivian if you’re fancy, Ms. Vivian if you’re nasty) gettin’ their party on w/@xoxocarr at Albuquerque the Mag’s B o’ C party last week. Woot-woot!
The pack is highly recommended as an ensemble or in parts to liven-up your holiday parties, dress & adorn your movie-sets, entertain your VIPs, marry your wealthy, etc., etc.
Contact them or us to negotiate their awesomeness for YOUR next event! ;)
Here’s a glimpse of the notorious Suge Night taking a chill in the Q last week. Many who came in contact with the embattled record label giant wondered what he was doing in town – perhaps he was here to consult with Lobo Athletics.
Along with the brighter lights and bigger personalities that come with this NM city rapidly shooting into super stardom, a huge fear of entertainment industry opponents et mucho mas is a possible jump in crime and violence.
Who needs the bloods and the crips when you’re a Lobo? At least that’s a possible impression some Lobo community leaders have been leaving across the globe. With the proverbial black eye, fat lip and foul plays coming out of the UNM athletics department as of late, Marion is the least of our worries.
UPDATE: To the relief of gazzilions Twitter is back ~up as of approx. 9:45 a.m. MST “Phew!”
The bird is down. Cnet Tech News breaks it down here.
How is Ashton gonna tell us what he’s doing today? Where is Anderson Cooper? Whaaaa! “Why, why…”
If a bird has to be grounded why can’t it be the C02 emitting, fuel wasting, Sky 7 who hovers over the city for HOURS EVERY weekday morning “reporting” on a hole, some asphalt, or today capturing riveting footage above the Rail Runner tracks from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
My name is Sindicator and I’m a Twitterholic. In the beginning I was like you thinking, “Twitter Schmitter”. I mean my God as if Myspace, Facebook, texting and email weren’t enough social networking who needed to hear when Elisabeth Hasselbeck was having a BM? And I don’t think anyone is a fan of the “I love me, watch everything I do” modus operandi so I thought it was a mediocre idea at best.
Then I did it. And at first it did live up to the doldrums of delivering TMI and achingly boring details of Ashton Kutcher‘s life – but that’s when I realized I was going at it all wrong. Don’t just follow the oft followed. There are trending topics, a public timeline and simple searches that lead to some gems of information, news, goss, and yes even some warm fuzzies.
Sure there are spammers up the whaz and haters now and again like the skeez who yelled at me with her keystrokes for posting a link to this blog accusing me of having pay per click ads, some weird agenda and other shiz that doesn’t even exist here – but hey the lack of others’ reading comprehension skills just isn’t my problem as one of my fave bad ass tweeters reminds me.
Real – Twin rockers Benji and Joel Madden turned activists and ambassadors for Unicef. Also, see the Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation
Unreal – Lavish ?Christmas? expenditure for actress Kirstie Alley who, as broadcast on Entertainment Tonight week of 12/08/08 (curiously no video/documentation available), spent THOUSANDS of dollars on bringing a snowmaker onto her property this holiday season.
“When people are shaken to the core, it can open doors.” – Rev. A. R. Bernard, founder and senior pastor of the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, New York. Evangelical churches in particular are noting the increases in attendance and the accommodations this calls for. You may find sermons geared toward the current economic crisis and preserving faith in hopelessness.
Last year’s study by David Beckworth, assistant professor of economics at Texas State University confirms that during times of economic down-turns it is in fact the evangelical church that swells, marking that during each recession between 1968 – 2004 the church’s growth rate was up to 50%. – New York Times

Indiana chapters of Planned Parenthood are offering gift certificates for healthcare services at their clinics. Similar programs are or likely to become available in Illinois, New York, Alaska, and Michigan. Surely among it’s critics will be the Wolverine in Business Barbie clothing known as the governess of Alaska – who opposes sex-ed in her state.
Outraged groups ignore health service and education benefits citing ‘lethal’ treatment possibilities. Planned Parenthood president and CEO, Betty Cockrum asserts basic healthcare such as annual exams, including cancer screenings and contraception, are often put off in tough economic times such as these.
An ABC News.com commenter says, “Wal-Mart gift cards can be used to buy alcohol and ammunition … but nobody is outraged.” – Nuff said? sources
“A holy man was having a conversation with the Lord one day and said, ‘Lord, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like.’
The Lord led the holy man to two doors. He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in. In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew,
which smelled delicious and made the holy man’s mouth water.
The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful. But because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths.
The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering.
The Lord said, ‘You have seen Hell.’
They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. There was the large round table with the large pot of stew which made the holy man’s mouth water. The
people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but here the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking.
The holy man said, ‘I don’t understand.’
It is simple,’ said the Lord. ‘It requires but one skill. You see they have learned to feed each other,
while the greedy think only of themselves.’ ”
Real – As seen on Rachael Ray, Rachel Calabrese provides birthday parties to underprivileged and displaced youth and their families. The organization Calabrese is a part of is called Birthday Wishes, please check them out here and the video on this program is a must see here.
Lesson Learned – If not you, who? If not now, when?
Unreal – The pretty pixie above: “Jill Hutcheon, president and CEO of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and a deputy minister at Queen’s Park [Canada], is charging [Canadian] taxpayers for gas and grocery bills at the cottage, car detailing and ritzy hotels…spent almost $7,000 on a two-day conference in New York City last April where she stayed at one of the most expensive hotels in the city, the Waldorf Astoria… [alledgedly] spent $2,000 on meals last year…[and] spent $168 for a Toronto hotel room when she lives in the city…Hutcheon earns a salary of about $400,000 per year.” – CTV Toronto
Real – Grand Junction, CO struggles to get homeless Veterans off the street. KJCT8
Unreal – I love ma’ dogs, especially our service dogs and we all need to do our part to spay and neuter a’ la Bob Barker, BUT the AP reports that the Army has opened a $15 Million Veteran’s Hospital for Canines in San Antonio, Texas. Full story, here courtesy of CBS
Some crime prevention organizations have held local events giving cash or gift certificates in exchange for guns – no questions asked.
It is somewhat difficult to find such programs NOW in progress. The above video and following links are from previous weapons exchanges. YOU can contact your local Crime Stoppers to inquire about starting a program in your area.
The combo of rampant illegal firearms and the very poor economy can only up the incidents of gun violence – already OOC, out-of-control. The NRA has nothing to fear – It’s the illegals (guns/not peeps) that are most used in violent crimes. Let’s get ’em turned in. Hell, call your local police dept. or crime stoppers and ask straight-up, “What’s the exchange rate on guns today?” Abq., NM Police Dept. offers cash for crime TIPS….
