It’s lights, camera, Cranston and much much more for “Better Call Saul”

Better Call Saul Billboard in Albuquerque Image via Twitter

While insiders have confirmed with OHI that Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul is on the roster to appear in the show’s upcoming prequel “Better Call Saul”, speculation abounds about which other cast and production members are or might be attached.

Saul Goodman née James McGill, beloved Mike Ehrmantraut and at least a glimpse of Jesse Pinkman are mounting reasons why Bad fans the world over are itching for the “early 2015″ debut. Filming is meticulously underway in Albuquerque where the tiniest glimpses of what can be expected are coming to light. And what’s coming to light is that the BCS team is tight and right.

By his own account the bump from a November 2014 premiere into 2015 is due to Vince Gilligan’s producing and directing style being “slow as mud”, so says the Bad creator himself who continued, “I still feel I’m very slow for television”, at the recent Television Critics Association.

Slow and steady she goes, by all ground accounts here in the ABQ, Saul co-creators Gilligan and Peter Gould are hard at work carefully crafting the kind of darkly comedic drama that has the masses addicted to their work.

And what of the at first haphazard chem teacher turned drug kingpin? Like Aaron Paul, Bryan Cranston has purportedly been attached to the new show, but not only with a possible turn as either Heisenberg and/or Mr. White in the series’ flexi-time-line, but behind the camera as an episode DIRECTOR.

Cranston directed episodes of Breaking Bad (Blood Money, No Más, Seven Thirty-Seven), an episode each of The Office and Modern Family, and seven episodes of Malcolm in the Middle, with feature film direction under his belt in the 1999 film, Last Chance, which he also wrote and starred in.

Any way you look at it this series is shaping up to be another WINNER.

Watch for the television production family that spawned Saul on the 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards show, airing Monday August 25 on NBC, where Breaking Bad has been nominated one last time for a whopping 16 Emmys.

Breaking Bad Fest

Never say die to the folks behind the upcoming Albuquerque Breaking Bad Fan Fest. Like the Kingpin and his devoted protégé, Miguel Jaramillo and Jennie Rexer are on a quest, a quest to bring the Breaking Bad universe what it truly needs to thrive – and that is a place to convene, revel and rejoice in all the splendor that is Breaking Bad mania.

And unlike any old venue or setting that may house masses for weekend or week-long festivities, such as Star-trek conventions, or general comic festivals, the ALBUQUERQUE BREAKING BAD FAN FEST will take place in the home of Vince Gilligan’s masterpiece.

That’s right, the happy accident that led to Albuquerque becoming a “central character” in the show, leads all roads back to the ultimate Breaking Bad mecca – the only place in the world where tourists from all over the globe can regularly be seen snapping pics at the John B. Robert dam, sitting in a booth at Twisters, in front of Octopus Car Wash, in front of the “White House”, even touring around the city just like the stars!

Come November 2014 these “Baddies” and many more can make the most out of their fandom at the ultimate “on location” fan fest.

“We’re happy to announce plans for an Albuquerque Breaking Bad Fan Fest are moving forward! We were unable to reach our Kickstarter goal, but the Fest will go on! Please stay tuned for more info on this page and www.ABQBreakingBadFest.com. Save the date: November 7th & 8th, 2014!”

Breaking Bad: And that’s a WRAP (sort of)

Posted by on March 19, 2013 | Comments Off

Above, while walking the press line at the Tribute to Breaking Bad event held Saturday night at Albuquerque Studios in New Mexico, Bryan Cranston answered a wide array of inquiries ranging from his thoughts on New Mexico in general to this juicy tidbit on how he sees the journey of Walter White saying:

“My perspective on it is that every human being is fully capable of the wide spectrum of emotions, and even the meekest person among us is a dangerous person given the right set of circumstances and what happened to Walter White was just that. Certain, specific buttons were pushed at a very delicate fragile time in his life and he made decisions that he could not take back and he was on the road, he was on a spiral to hell.”

The Albuquerque Studios, Reelz Channel, YDI Tribute to Breaking Bad culminated in this meet & greet for contest winners and event sponsors, with select media and Albuquerque civic leaders in attendance. The cast mingled with the crowed, signed autographs and posed for photos with sponsors and winners alike. With sponsorship packages and ticket sales, organizers of the fundraiser for Youth Development Incorporated, were able to raise over $28,000 in just a few weeks time to benefit the local youth organization.

After the gang buster success of this, one of the many civic outreach events the production has undertaken in their six years at work here, there was another event held at an undisclosed location.

Though OHI has confirmed that Breaking Bad cameras are still rolling her in Albuquerque, at least for a few more hours, the closed door event turned out to be the show’s wrap party, where the tears and “bittersweet” sentiments that were already beginning to swell at the fundraiser flowed at full speed, as cast, crew, production staff, friends and family shared their parting words of reflection and gratitude.

In a speech addressing the crowed Bryan Cranston thanked AMC and Sony for having the courage to pick-up the show and said, “Even though Vince Gilligan didn’t set out to make a classic that’s exactly what happened. In years to come this show will stand the test of time and scrutiny.”

Telling everyone, “All of you here tonight can say proudly that we worked on breaking bad. Now it’s time to go, it’s time to wrap it up, fold-up our tents and move away but there’s one thing that will never leave us even though we’re leaving this experience and that is from here on for the rest of our lives we will be inexorably tied to each other as a one as a family and I for one am personally am overjoyed to have this opportunity to be w this family all of you, such fine human beings number one and artisans number 2 I love you all I will miss you all, God bless you and God bless you Mr. Vince Gilligan for giving us this opportunity!”

Hometown star Steven Michael Quezada said, “I’m very proud of New Mexico, I’m a New Mexican…the crews here, you have made us proud> We’re gonna do great things moving on in the future. I’d like to thank Mr. Vince Gillagan for giving us that, we are gonna learn from that and we’re gonna go forward and we’re gonna thrive and thank you Governor Martinez. Thank you for signing a bill that will help us…this cast here has changed New Mexico let’s learn from it and let’s move on, thank you very much.”

Anna Gunn too thanked AMC and Sony “for giving our little show about meth a home.” Then addressing her co-stars calling them, “the most generous gifted hilarious group of actors I have loved playing with you every minute and I have loved watching your brilliant work.”

And in a tremendous nod of support to those who crafted the show year after year, “Most of all I really just wanna pay homage to the most amazing crew top to bottom that I have ever worked with in my career. Everyday that I came to work I didn’t feel like I was coming to work, I felt like I was coming to make art, communally with a group of people that I adored and you all are artists. You are all crafts men and woman and you gave every ounce of yourselves with such passion and dedication through sandstorms and snowstorms and scorching heat and everything in between, and I was in awe of what you did and we really became a family.”

Lastly the native New Mexican added, “I have met some of the finest human beings and artists that I have ever come across in all my years working in this business and I feel so blessed because of that and I will be forever grateful for this experience so, Que Viva New Mexico and Que Viva Breaking Bad!”

Ladies and gentlemen everywhere were touched by the genuine humility and raw emotional gratitude delivered by Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul, when he accepted his second Emmy award for Best Supporting actor Sunday night.

For much of the collective Emmy audience, it was their first look at Paul’s fiancé, Lauren Parsekian. Perhaps most important for people to know about Lauren is that the beautiful leading lady in Paul’s life is much more than just another pretty face.

Look who turned up in Albu-quirky

Posted by on April 30, 2012 | Comments Off

Considering the veritable constellation of stars mooning over the show, year-in and year-out…it should come as no surprise that any celeb, who might be so able, would give their eye-tooth to make their merry way to the set…

Even so, as is his way, “Wierd” Al made it extra special by tweeting to his millions of followers (that’s right MILLIONS):

“People in Albuquerque are so friendly! These guys even invited me to their meth lab!”

Adding later to his Facebook page:

“Big thanks to Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul, Bryan Cranston and RJ Mitte for getting weird with me tonight in Albuquerque!”

The Breaking Bad fan turned cast friend appeared at the Kiva Auditorium Monday night, click here for his remaining comedy tour dates.

Aaron Paul Breaking Bad News on ABQ

Posted by on April 10, 2012 | Comments Off

Pre. S. You want his sh*t? Bid on it b*tch! “Jesse’s” Breaking Bad swag on the auction block, for a good cause here!

In the latest issue of The Weekly Alibi, the entire cast of Breaking Bad was voted BEST OF BURQUE, Community Pick in their annual BOB survey. In the issue (on stands now), Arron Paul recounts his bumpy road to professing love for the Q and NM as a whole:

“Albuquerque is like no other place on this planet. The entire state [of New Mexico] is beautiful and the skies are endless. I gotta be honest, when I first shot the pilot I was thinking to myself, Oh dear God, I don’t know if I’m gonna be able to handle shooting a series out here. Just because I didn’t really see any of Albuquerque – I was just going from the hotel to work, and the hotel I was staying at was in the middle of nowhere, and there was nothing around, nothing for me to do. But once we got picked up, the series, I instantly fell in love with the city.”

Bumpy to start, bumpy to end. The star surely can’t be feeling much love for the city right now just days into the New Mexico shoot of the fifth and final season of the best show on television, as he tweets New Mexico to the world with this bad news…

Paul’s follow-up Tweet here.

Breaking Bad cast branching out on a screen near you

Posted by on April 10, 2012 | Comments Off
CastFilmTV

As we told you here, Breaking Bad creator/mad genius, Vince Gilligan is on for another stint with Breaking Bad parent co., Sony Pictures TV. Cranston is everywhere you look (and it’s still not enough); on the big screen here, here, here and here and behind the camera directing tomorrow night’s episode of ABC’s hit series, Modern Family!

Also tomorrow night on ABC, “Apology Girl” herself, Krysten Ritter heads the new series “Don’t Trust the B— in Apt. 23“.

We were bummed to see that the role of John McLane’s son in the next installment of the Die Hard franchise didn’t go to Aaron Paul, but better still, Paul’s leading man skills are set to shine in “Smashed”.

The gritty, dark-comedy, also called an “adult coming of age” film, premiered at Sundance earlier this year, where the producers were awarded a Special Jury Prize for Excellence in Independent Film Producing.

Worldwide distribution rights for “Smashed” have since been acquired by Sony Pictures Classics for a reported $1M price tag.

Deadline Hollywood reports on the full cast: Mary Elizabeth Winstead (SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD), Emmy Award® winner Aaron Paul (BREAKING BAD), Academy Award® winner Octavia Spencer (THE HELP), Nick Offerman (PARKS & RECREATION), Emmy Award® winner Megan Mullally (WILL & GRACE) and Emmy Award® winner Mary Kay Place (BIG LOVE; MARY HARTMAN, MARY HARTMAN).

Jesse Pinkman and Brother of Thor Contenders for Son of John McLane

Posted by on November 5, 2011 | One comment
CastFilmGossip

UPDATE: This guy got it.

A Good Day to Die Hard, the upcoming forth film in the Die Hard series will take John McLane to frigid Russia on, an of course, suspense filled quest to free his son from the throws of…you’ll see.

BUT FIRST we’ll all get to see who lands the coveted, and possibly further franchised role of the Son of John McLane.

The two front runners have New Mexico ties as one is the brother of “Thor”, aka Liam Hemsworth, aka Mr. Hannah Montana, who spent some time here back in the Spring of 2010 enjoying a little R&R with big brother & Thunder God, Chris.

Even more closely tied to our hearts is part-time NM res. AARON PAUL, who bares a striking familial resemblance to Bruce Willis (hint, hint).

A handful of other actors are also reported to be under consideration for the role in the film, scheduled to start production as early as January 2012, which may cause conflict in the selection of our beloved Paul, as the fifth season of Breaking Bad should be getting underway around the same time {sads}, but we all know how a film schedule can slide around…

Let us be hopeful that the casting of this plum role isn’t botched like with the slackers who let that precious Logan Lerman slip through their fingers as the PERFECT, next best SPIDERMAN.

Good luck to all the contenders, and may the winner do well with the role and not stink-it-up! I haven’t personally seen any of the younger Hemsworth’s work nor have I been able to wrap my arm around him – with that and all the bias in the world I hope we’ll be seeing Paul land this!

Breaking Bad Walk-on in the Q

Posted by on October 4, 2011 | Comments Off

New Mexico Tourism much? Not likely, but AMC has something to entice Breaking Bad addicts the world over, right here to the “Q-Spot”.

In the words of Jesse Pinkman, “It’s on, YO!” Enter the sweepstakes here for your chance to visit the picturesque backdrop of the Emmy winning series you covet!

From AMC:

One grand prize winner will be selected to receive a walk-on role in Breaking Bad next season and a four-day, three-night trip to the set in Albuquerque, New Mexico. All entries must be received by 11:59:59AM | 10:59:59C on Mon., Jan. 16, 2012.

Eh-em, Dear NM State Government, are we in on this action as a people? A few more suggestions to add to my lowly (vastly untapped) suggestion box are to get in on merchandising and tourist attraction licensing…oh and also keep bringing productions to the state…of course I can’t even afford to subscribe to AMC so maybe apply a grain of salt, on the rim preferably ;)

In the meantime, naysayers and Doubting Thomases revel in the obvious fact that AMC is bringing THE BEST SHOW EVER SCRIPTED back to NM (as if they could possibly go elsewhere).

And the rest of you…ENTER to win…and even if you don’t, book your flights to Nuevo México, because I’m armed with a location list and a only half broke-down, but insured (that’s big time here), mode of transportation to haul you and yours from season one through four!

Sessy Jesse

Posted by on March 15, 2011 | 2 comments

Like I told my girls on Facebook, I just love me some sessy Jesse a.k.a. the delectable, award winning actor Aaron Paul, back to work portraying the ever precious Jesse Pinkman on Breaking Bad.  As Coco knows, the show has always been simply “perfection”, but since Jesse cried his eyes out in that crack house I’ve just been crushin’ on ‘em like mad!

And here he is with one of our absolute favorite local dynamos, the magnificent, multi-talented NM actress Andrea B. Good. Drea’s Breaking Bad these days, kickin’ it on set with the amazing cast and crew of the Pride & Joy of New Mexico Productions, for the fourth season of the Emmy winning AMC series.

Today, my most serious TV crush since Tom Hanson, is sporting a new buzz cut, much shorter since we saw him last, guesting on co-star Steven Michael Quezada’s own Late Night TV talk show. Most of the co-stars including the beloved, equally talented and sessy (barely legal) RJ Mitte have stopped-in to make appearances w/SMQ on The After After Par-tay – check it out here!

And keep checking-in with us for more homegrown Br Ba updates to hold you over til’ season premiere time! In the meantime Lisa and I will try not to sniff the Pinkman off of Dre’ the next time we see her and just be satisfied with daydreaming about our favorite make-believe, methmaker with a heart o’gold!
