New Mexico Hot for TV

UPDATE 7/2/2013: Breaking Bad creator, Vince Gillagan says Saul Goodman Spinoff Moving ‘Full Speed Ahead’ -The Wrap TV

Breaking Bad Spin-off NBC Series Night Shift NMFilm

As the world anxiously awaits the final eight episodes of the “best show on television”, Breaking Bad fans are equally curious for the verdict on what comes next for cast & crew.

Even before we learn the fate of Walter White & Co. Br Ba devotees look forward to the most likely spin-off in which the best, slimiest, lawless lawyer around, Saul Goodman will once again ease all with, “Better Call Saul”.

Best news for New Mexico is that if a deal is indeed inked for the series, the most likely place for the Saul Goodman led series to take place would be original series home, Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Home to the AMC series, Albuquerque Studios (The Avengers, The Lone Ranger) is well seasoned and at the ready for the return of all things Saul.

Last fall NBC shot the gritty drama pilot “After Hours” across the interstate, as a prospect for last season’s television schedule. After not making the first cut, then being volleyed back and forth from the pick-up list to the tentative list, an off-cycle short order has been placed for at least four episodes of the show.

With a little tweek to the working title, from “After Hours” to “The Late Shift” production is scheduled to get back underway at I-25 Studios (Transcendence, Lone Survivor) later this summer!

And as we’ve previously reported, up north some very special goings-on are going on around the return of the A&E hit series, Longmire and the highly anticipated Seth MacFarlane adaptation of Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey for Fox television.

#NMFilm Get into it!

Breaking Bad won’t be back til’ WHEN?

Breaking Bad YDI Tribute Cast Panel

Deadline Hollywood reports that AMC has announced, the world will be waiting until AUGUST 11, 2013 to get their last eight episodes of Breaking Bad!!!!!!!

The news, delivered at the AMC upfronts today, debunks the gun-jump tweeted out, then reneged by star Aaron Paul declaring July 14 the premature premiere date.

The network also revealed plans for a half hour show titled, “Talking Bad” to air live after each of the last episodes. No word or whisper on whether or not there’s any truth to the rumor that multiple series endings were in fact filmed before the production wrapped here in NM…stay tuned.

thanks Elizabeth

Longmire Blowin’ Up in NM

Posted by on June 13, 2012 | Comments Off on Longmire Blowin’ Up in NM

Not since Breaking Bad MADNESS first broke wide open, has our traffic meter hit the kind of highs it’s hitting with the quick success of the A&E series Longmire.

Since its “distinctive premiere”, the quickly green-lit, highly anticipated, contemporary western drama set in WYO is exploding in our search terms, “where is Longmire filmed?”, “Stars of Longmire”, and “Longmire Television Series”.

Goooooooooooooal New Mexico! After the sad goodbye to In Plain Sight earlier this year and the absolutely heart wrenching, impending farewell to our beloved Breaking Bad, Longmire is a bright light in #NMFilm futures sights!

To feed you more awesome, upon awesome in touting New Mexico Film, all reports coming in here say that the CBS series pick-up of the Dennis Quaid 60s era drama will return to New Mexico to shoot! Here’s hoping those (multiple) rumors are TRUE!

In any case we can confirm, proof positive that once again…the WORLD is watching New Mexico Film!

NM Series Alums Strike New Deals

Posted by on February 21, 2012 | 2 comments

Two beloved figures in scripted drama, near and dear to the hearts and wallets of many in the New Mexico Film industry have inked deals to work new projects as the sun sets on their respective 5 year long NM series.

Mary McCormack is making the move from dramatic series Fed to sitcom mom. The In Plain sight star has been cast to lead a new comedy pilot from the mind behind the HIGHlarious New Adventures of Old Christine.

In Plain Sight star Mary McCormack, has lined up her next series gig, playing the lead in Kari Lizer’s untitled ABC comedy pilot (aka The Unprofessional). The multi-camera comedy, from Warner Bros. TV, centers on Hilary Pfeiffer-Dunne (McCormack), a high-powered executive who, having dominated the corporate America for years, now faces the biggest challenge of her life when she finds herself unemployed and acting as a full-time mom to her two teenagers.

Also hot off the deadline:

Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan has signed a new overall deal with the studio behind the acclaimed AMC drama series, Sony Pictures TV. The rich 18-month pact kicks in retroactively to November, when Gilligan’s previous deal with the studio expired (he has been working on the show without a contract for the past three months), and will keep him at Sony though June 2013. The deal covers Gilligan’s services as executive producer/showrunner on the final 16 episodes of Breaking Bad, which will begin production in late March. The order will be filmed in two batches of eight episodes, with a break of several months between for writers to work on scripts. The pact also includes development component, with Gilligan expected to focus on new projects for Sony after he wraps Breaking Bad.

You can bet we’ll be following these two developments for you ABQ. Here’s hoping we’ll see these two back in NM productions!

After all, ABC/ABC Family (parent co. Disney) is no stranger to NM and Vince Gilligan has conveyed more than an affinity for the Land of Enchantment…to be continued…

Thanks Liz

Breaking Bad Walk-on in the Q

Posted by on October 4, 2011 | Comments Off on Breaking Bad Walk-on in the Q

New Mexico Tourism much? Not likely, but AMC has something to entice Breaking Bad addicts the world over, right here to the “Q-Spot”.

In the words of Jesse Pinkman, “It’s on, YO!” Enter the sweepstakes here for your chance to visit the picturesque backdrop of the Emmy winning series you covet!

From AMC:

One grand prize winner will be selected to receive a walk-on role in Breaking Bad next season and a four-day, three-night trip to the set in Albuquerque, New Mexico. All entries must be received by 11:59:59AM | 10:59:59C on Mon., Jan. 16, 2012.

Eh-em, Dear NM State Government, are we in on this action as a people? A few more suggestions to add to my lowly (vastly untapped) suggestion box are to get in on merchandising and tourist attraction licensing…oh and also keep bringing productions to the state…of course I can’t even afford to subscribe to AMC so maybe apply a grain of salt, on the rim preferably ;)

In the meantime, naysayers and Doubting Thomases revel in the obvious fact that AMC is bringing THE BEST SHOW EVER SCRIPTED back to NM (as if they could possibly go elsewhere).

And the rest of you…ENTER to win…and even if you don’t, book your flights to Nuevo México, because I’m armed with a location list and a only half broke-down, but insured (that’s big time here), mode of transportation to haul you and yours from season one through four!

Escándalo: Fiscal Fallout/Fifth & Final

Posted by on August 15, 2011 | One comment

Fiscal fallout at AMC has led to the fifth & final season pick-up of the Emmy winning New Mexico production Breaking Bad.

ICYDK: Meth making doesn’t exactly lend itself to mass market promotional product schemes the way a pricey presentation of the history of America’s oldest addiction (money grubbing), fueled by our other most long standing and ongoing addictions (the smoke, the drink and the sex) does.

The high price tag on particular productions seems to be taking a big, ugly bite out of projects left and right lately (corporate film making – it’s the new NFL LOCKOUT).

Becoming even more mainstream is the practice of industry professionals feeling and sounding-off about the pinch.

Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy) on August 11th from his now defunct twitter account:

Well…not exactly no one would say it as we too piped-up on the blood letting here back on August 5th. Guess he’s not a fan…{sigh}

So alas NM is dealt a blow reaching the end of the road with finale seasons of both USA Network’s In Plain Sight and our intensely beloved Breaking Bad, which will conclude its acclaimed run with just 16 more episodes to shoot – shoring-up syndication rights of the series sure to garner even more bank for AMC.

NM Meth vs. NY Men

Posted by on August 5, 2011 | One comment

That Two and a Half Men mess on CBS isn’t the only XY drama in town.

In fact the reigning #1 Drama on television is maddeningly squashing the Gs out of our own beloved home grown production, Breaking Bad.

A busy bee buzz around Hollywoo is that AMC, the network for both Breaking Bad and Mad Men, is breaking the bank with the sleek, stylized, period piece dramz eating into the budget of the picturesque, perfectly scripted, expertly acted NM series.

The L.A. Times is reporting that Breaking Bad and other top show The Walking Dead are being asked to ax digits from their bottom line and the speculation is that those numbers will be used to line the pockets of Mad creator Matt Weiner.

First the scheduling melee that swept the Lead Actor Emmy right out of Cranston’s hands and undoubtedly into those of Mad’s leading man to this!

A fifth season of NM’s Own Breaking Bad is a go for the time being but the quantity, network and location may be up in the air.

For all we’ve ever had to say about the coveted New Mexico series click here and for a personal convo w/the stars pick-up the latest Weekly Alibi on stands now – featuring some riveting words from NM’s Own Br Ba star Steven Michael Quezada!

Season four of Breaking Bad airs Sunday nights on AMC and the high rollers of Mad Men will return in 2012 with their platinum plated season five (it is a pretty bad a** show, but come on New Mexico get on AMC about this sh*t – we can’t afford to lose the best show on television & we can’t even blame this mess on Susana).

Breaking Bad Best Everything

Posted by on July 14, 2011 | One comment

Because he’s one of the greatest actors of all time and for his general awesomeness we’ve taken to often asking ourselves WWBCD – What Would Bryan Cranston Do?

I can tell you he won’t win his FOURTH consecutive Emmy for playing Walter White come September…

And for those of you wondering when Breaking Bad will go ahead and take BEST DRAMA series at the Emmys, it also won’t be this year!

Breaking Bad didn’t air during the year’s nomination period and isn’t eligible…lucky for the rest of the nominees (I’m looking at you Jon Hamm).

Take-in the season premiere of Breaking Bad THIS SUNDAY NIGHT on AMC.

Cranston Named Golden

Posted by on December 14, 2010 | Comments Off on Cranston Named Golden

New Mexico’s Own Award Winning Series Breaking Bad is kicking-off award season with an early morning phone call for leading man Bryan Cranston with the news that he’s nominated for a Golden Globe for his part in the AMC series!

CONGRATULATIONS BRYAN!  The star “represents” including the entire cast and crew upon the news of the Nom, “Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for this recognition. “Breaking Bad” has been an extraordinary journey and I am honored to represent our amazing cast and crew with this nomination.” CLASS ACT, Golden Globe Nominee, Bryan Cranston said today!

“Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston should be used to nominations-morning drill by now — but he isn’t.

“I got that ominous phone call at five-something in the morning,” said Cranston. “I’ve been very fortunate to get that phone call often throughout my career and it never fails to scare me momentarily. You think no one ever calls at that hour unless it’s bad news. I know that in the future when I get a phone call to tell me someone’s died, I’m going to answer it like, ‘Really? I was nominated?’ And then it’ll have a very dark turn.” – via Variety

I-25 Studios Gets a lil’ TNT

AlbuquerqueComing SoonFilmJobsNMProductionTV

Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip (NBC’s class of ’06-’07) makes a move, of sorts. Two of the stars of the axed show will be re-teaming for a brand spanking new TNT detective, drama series that will begin shooting in the Q next month.

The series is based on the Marshall Karp novel The Rabbit Factory. The story will follow two detectives, – “Lomax & Biggs” in their life of sleuthery, debacles and hopefully some-time debauchery, whilst navigating their way through mysteries and life as a dynamic duo.

Allan Loeb, screenwriter of the iconic, big screen sequel Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps is at the helm of the production that pairs famed Wings actor Steven Weber and member of the original Kings of Comedy actor/comedian/host D.L. Hughley as the leads.

Shooting fires-up in December at Albuquerque’s I-25 Studios, home of the AMC hit series In Plain Sight – in which Weber also appeared.

TNT, Weber, Hughley and crew (+NM job$) join current NM productions IPS and  Breaking Bad…and fill a bit of the void left by our dearly departed Scoundrels.

Welcome Gumshoes!

Casting deets to follow as they become avail…
