From NM to NC – These two New Mexikids who were cast mates in the locally filmed Hallmark Hall of Fame movie Beyond the Blackboard are hitting the books big screen style!
Both New Mexico actors were cast in two critically acclaimed, highly anticipated novels turned films due out next year.
Odd Thomas starring Fright Night’s Anton Yelchin and Addison Timlin, currently in post production – shot right here in NM and features OHI fave Jack Justice.
The Hunger Games filming in North Carolina boasts one of New Mexico’s Own in up & comer, Willow Shields who created a buzz for landing the coveted role of Primrose Everdeen in the film as a relative unknown alongside bigger hitters like Liam Hemsworth (brother of Thor, boyfriend to Miley) Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone) and Josh Hutcherson (The Kids Are All Right).
Look for both films and these rising New Mexico stars in 2012.

Better still, in Roger’s review he inadvertently gives NM high praise as not only a believable Las Vegas locale but describes the setting as at least somewhat integral to the plot ;)

ICYDK: You can’t throw a stone without hitting someone or something tied to NM Film – but don’t.
Like the intricate threads woven throughout classic literature…such as in a Cormac McCarthy novel turned film…like the Coen Bro’s Oscar® winning turn at the McCarthy best selling novel, No Country for Old Men, so is New Mexico woven into the fiber of Global Film…
Garret Dillahunt the lovably daft undersheriff to Tommy Lee Jones in No Country is named as the lead in the New Mexico production of The Boys of Abu Ghriab.
Another No Country star, Woody Harrelson is soon to be seen in the HBO original film Game Change which recently wrapped Northern N. Mex. filming…
The Coen bros put “pen to paper” for the reboot of the 1966 film Gambit, this time out starring Cameron Diaz & Colin Firth now filming in…yes, New Mexico!
The likewise best selling Dean Koontz novel turned highly anticipated NM movie, Odd Thomas is (back) at work this week.
Odd director Stephen Sommers also churned out 2009′s GI Joe which starred Sienna Miller and Channing Tatum…Sienna’s current project, Just Like a Woman is now casting and set to shoot right here in NM.
Tatum’s upcoming New Mexico movie Ten Year is expected to premiere this year…but you never can tell, another GI Joe co-star Rachel Nichols starred in the NM film Bird of the Air (formerly titled The Loop) and we’re still waiting on its release.
This isn’t the first NM term for Odd Thomas star Anton Yelchin, who is back for another run as he was for the soon to be released thriller Fright Night.
Anton’s co-star in Fright, Colin Farrell is too a repeat NM filmer as he previously starred opposite the Oscar® winning Jeff Bridges in…the wholly New Mexico film Crazy Heart.
Bridges also worked in NM…in last year’s True Grit along side Matt Damon who first worked NM waay back in ’99 in All the Pretty Horses a film based on the novel of the same name by…you guessed CORMAC MCCARTHY…
And that’s a Big Screen String…New Mexico Style!

As we told you here the Dean Koontz novel turned star studded, New Mexico movie was recently ensnared with “administrative” woes – so much so that production and payroll had come to a screeching halt!
From On Location Casting, production rolls again:
Per Producers – As of midnight last night, banks loans & financing have officially closed and the project is now fully financed/funded, bonded and insured. Crew paychecks are available as of 10:00am today, so EMS Payroll should have funds available now to release all Extras paychecks. You can probably call EMS directly to get confirmation of this.
A request has been put in to both SAG and the local IATSE union for clearances for all crew and actors to go back to work.
Production intends to begin filming agaian later TODAY (Thurs. 7/7/11) beginning with night shoots today and tomorrow. We still do not have a revised full shooting schedule so do not yet know what to expect in terms of our extras needs for the remainder of the shoot.
From the Producers – “There are no more worries about the financial health of our movie. We are very aware what you have endured hanging in there with us through the last weeks/months and apologize sincerely for the hardships caused. Let’s finish our magical movie.”
Once we know what/who we are booking, we at OLC hope that everyone will once again be willing to work as extras/stand-ins on this project. Thanks for your patience.
Thanks Chris

UPDATE 6/23/11: ”"Odd Thomas” is still on break possibly until mid next week. We will post information here as it becomes available.” – OLC, Extras Casting, NM
Apparently it’s a SAG drag in Santa Fe as the highly touted film adaptation of the coveted Dean Koontz novel of the same name, Odd Thomas hits some financial skids…
The production has been filming since early spring starring Anton Yelchin, *Lily Collins Addison Timlin, Patton Oswalt, Willem Dafoe and slated to feature Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson…
According to NM based entertainment co., Reelz Channel the production halted work earlier this week due to, “financing troubles”.
Furthermore, Reelz says an email distributed to Screen Actors Guild (SAG) actors working on the film stated that, “Two Out of Ten Productions, is in default under a SAG agreement” and that “SAG members should not work on Odd Thomas until further instructed.” {sads}
Read the full scoop from real Entertainment writer, Chris Ortiz here.
*correction – thanks to the kind and helpful words of marian (below), we’re happy to report that young Addison Timlin (Entourage Californication), will be playing the role of Stormy Llewellyn once speculated/reported as going to Lilly Collins.

Famed raw comic Patton Oswalt has been revealed as being cast in the supernatural thriller Odd Thomas set to film in NM – Oswalt, maybe even better known as the most recognized rodent voice since Mick, will play the eccentric artist who crafts the mayhaps magical pendant donned by Thomas (Anton Yelchin) himself.
It’s been long rumored that Willem Dafoe will join the cast as the town police chief who shares in the knowledge about just what makes Thomas so odd with leading lady Addison Timlin (Californication). But no official confirmation has been released.
Also not quite confirmed but apparently deep in talks and most definitely deeply desired, young Nico Tortorella (Scream 4) is being sought for the villainous cult member with his evil eye set on destroying the town of Odd.
Of course if Tortorella can’t fall into the role of this New Mexico film, me thinks OneHeadlightInk FAVE (who should’ve ABSOLUTELY been cast as the new Spiderman) Logan Lerman (aka Nut Butter Boy) could certainly take-up the reins!

Well, well, well, as we live and day drink…Own Wilson be spotted on the regular in the Fe as of late.
Recently O was spied at one of OHI’s favorite chemists’ joints Marble Brewery (they serve food there too haters, don’t get all-up on Owen’s wagon!) amongst other Fanta Se eateries.
The New Mexico Military Institute alum is likely in NM for the Odd Thomas shoot, which he’s been rumored to be a part of for nay on several years now…Odd is based on the novel by Dean Koontz and is rather hush, hush, though young Anton Yelchin (NM Vet in: Terminator Salvation, Fright Night) has just recently been disclosed as CAST.
