The world is just days away from the grand, wide opening of NM’s Own Cowboys & Aliens…
OneHeadlightInk friend, soul sister, past life comrade and current Michigan State Professor, Dr. Laura Birou is one of the select few who’ve been privy to a screening at this year’s just wrapped Comic Con International Convention.
Here is what the good doctor has to say of the film in her very smart, special and concise way:
“…it is not of the same caliber of Iron Man. The Craig-Ford dynamic was wonderful. The Craig-Wilde dynamic, not so much. Rockwell was awesome, had some of the best lines. Script was under developed, a lot of holes.” – Dr. Laura
First they titillated with this now they…tantalize with this (above), the first of what are sure to be many movie posters for the highly anticipated NM Film Cowboys & Aliens.
And the countdown has begun for the first glimpse of the official trailer in T-minus 1 day 23 hours…
We got an early look at Wednesday’s Cowboys & Aliens trailer. We learned Daniel Craig’s alien-fighting cowboy puts James Bond to shame, Harrison Ford has never been nastier, and this really is both serious western and serious alien invasion movie. – io9
UPDATE: Cowboys may not have taken the top nod for the single MOST anticipated movie of 2011 at the Spike TV Scream Awards, but another NM tocado film DID.
The event honoring the best in sci-fi, fantasy, comics & horror airs TONIGHT on SPIKE TV! N. Mex. is a gem in the desert housing all of the above over the past several years (THANK YOU NEW MEXICO FILM!).
Cowboys recently wrapped and absconded after their love affair with our painted skies et al over their many months long shoot in No. N. Mex.
Watch tonight as they’ll likely collect the honor of most anticipated and be sure to hit-up the Iron Man master himself – @jon_favreau to remind the Cowboys & Aliens director that we want a premiere!
With a blog post almost as vast and colorful as our NM vistas, actress Olivia Wilde waxes romantic over the beauty and goodness of our capital city.
The Cowboys and Aliens star regularly tweeted little glimpses of her observations and experiences these many months of filming in the Land of Enchantment and she bids us adieu in this quaint novella where she wraps with:
“I have really enjoyed my experience in Santa Fe, and there is so much more I could write about (maybe I will) but for now, consider this a love letter to the above mentioned ingredients to my happy summer in my latest home away from home.”
Thank you Miss Wilde for the love letter that leaves us so much warmer and fuzzier than the the online morning after cab fair on the nightstand that is a Tweety-bye-bye.
Don’t forget to join our quest to get the likes of Cowboys back to NM for a local premiere gala!
We welcome you with open arms, glorious vistas and major incentives…Bring your premiere galas and events to the land that holds you so dear! ‘LIKE’ this page…it worked for the Great White Betty! Let’s go New Mexico!
“A meteor exploded in the atmosphere near Santa Fe, New Mexico just before 5 a.m. on the morning of July 31. Local amateur radio astronomer Thomas Ashcraft captured the event from his personal observatory using an all-sky optical video camera developed by Sandia National Laboratories that is specifically sensitive to the near infrared flashes that meteors create.
The video only contains the first part of the fireball’s four-minute-long echo captured by Ashcraft’s antennas. Forward scatter radar is different from traditional radar detection because instead of sending out a cone of radio waves, it uses waves that are already beaming in the ionosphere. – Via Wired Science
Was this truly weird science or did a little production in Northern N. Mex have a little something to do with this???
Jon Favreau’s Cowboys and Aliens has been shooting for a couple of months now – perhaps une grande finale?
The New Mexico Shoot of Cowboys and Aliens is currently Seeking Native Americans:
“Cowboys and Aliens, starring Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde and Sam Rockwell, is looking for Native Americans in the Espanola area for scenes to be shot in mid August.
The buzz-buzz is that Favs brought HARRISON FORD to his first Comic-Con experience to participate in the Cowboys and Aliens panel this evening…How did Han Solo never go to Comic Con before? Stud.
Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde and Sam Rockwell also appeared. The NM shoot is getting lots o’buzz as Favreau says C&A will be back for Comic Con 2011 just before the release of the much anticipated film – which, as was just disclosed will be in 2 Dimensions…Favs said, “f*ck it” after early digital test shoots.
Just a few weeks into filming the Cowboys ensemble did not disappoint – even bringing a preview reel of the movie that brought the crowd to its feet.
Woot!

Not one but THREE FOUR New Mexico Films will be showcased at this year’s largest fiction/fantasy fan convention, Comic Con International in San Diego California, July 22 – 25.
My beloved Cowboy(s) and Aliens, now filming in the vast seclusion of our New Mexico desert, will be reviewed by non-other than director Jon Favreau (Iron Man) on Saturday to include an open Q & A. Perhaps there Favs will disclose the yay or nay on his gorgeous film’s dimensions be it 2 or 3!!! Like Iron Man’s cousin Thor…
Thor is in and out of the news, most recently for this just released production still for the film which is catching its unfair share of flack. Producer Kevin Feige will be on hand to discuss the much anticipated Marvel release of New Mexico’s Thor and the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger.
“Scheduled to appear for Universal Pictures’ sci-fi comedy-adventure Paul are a who’s who of film comedy. Director Greg Mottola (Superbad) will be joined by cast members Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz), Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead), Kristen Wiig (Date Night), Bill Hader (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), Jeffrey Tambor (The Hangover), Joe Lo Truglio (Role Models), Seth Rogen (The Green Hornet), and Sigourney Weaver (Baby Mama) as they discuss the movie about two sci-fi geeks whose pilgrimage to Comic-Con ultimately takes them to America’s UFO heartland. While there, they accidentally meet an alien who takes them on an insane road trip that alters their universe forever. Q&A session to follow.” – Screen Rant
“The cast and filmmakers of (NM’s) Let Me In, a haunting and provocative thriller written and directed by filmmaker Matt Reeves (Cloverfield), give the Hall H audience a sneak peek at this highly anticipated film. Let Me In is an astonishing coming-of-age story involving a young girl (Kick Ass’s Chloe Moretz) and an alienated boy (Kodi Smit-McPhee from The Road) unlike any you have seen. Based on the bestselling Swedish novel Lat den Ratte Komma (Let The Right One In) by John Ajvide Lindqvist and the highly acclaimed film of the same name, Let Me In takes audiences straight to the troubled heart of adolescent longing and loneliness. Academy Award-nominee Richard Jenkins (The Visitor) also stars in this exhilarating reboot of the beloved original.” – Comic Con
ed. notes: SyFy Network’s NM production, Stargate Universe will also hold court. And last year’s NM Comic Con reps. The Book of Eli and Legion are now out on DVD.
NM Cowboys and Aliens – Uber director Jon Favreau is meticulously making his personal picks for each individual New Mexican to be cast alongside the growing list of leading roles including Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde, Harrison Ford, Wes Studi, Adam Beach, and Paul Dano for the primarily NM shot film – Which BTW may become the first ever New Mexico made film in 3D – dir., techs and crew are currently testing equipment to do so.
Lucky 7′s – From the Hyatt to NM’s Own Hard Rock the Q is center to quick jaunts about town and outlying hot spots where you can get a quick hit of the VIP feel of Vegas or the old Hollywood glamour vibe in luxurious lounges, poolside or at roof blowing shows and events.
Observe This – The wholly New Mexico film that marries Bad Santa and Super Bad! The irreverent, vulger comedy kicks it up hilarious style in the film that caused leading man Seth Rogen to drop some lbs. and may cause you to lose your lunch over the fantasticness that is the wild Anna Faris – who was known to get out and about in the Q during filming waay back in ’08, spotted at Burt’s celebrating her B-Day. Pick-up this NM flick on DVD.
While the whole of New Mexico is all atwitter about the upcoming shoot of Jon Favreau’s Cowboys and Aliens (as we told you first) this ~reporter simply awaits a Tequila Summit with the I-ron Man director extraordinaire.
Production is getting underway in northern NM as Favreau himself tweets to the masses – where he also gave this sneak twitpic of the Cowboys camera tests, which mainstream media and comic geeks alike are eating-up esp. after the director recently disclosed that it is the easy on the retina Daniel Craig all suited-up.
Those still hungry for production notes and inside dish can “Like” Cowboys & Aliens on Facebook. Get your write-in on to all of thee above encouraging the aforementioned Tequila Summit and suggesting an NM Premiere!
Fresh off his I-Ron Man duties, uber director Jon Favreau is headed to New Mexico to film his latest epic Cowboys and Aliens.
An open casting call for paid extras is being held Saturday May 22 from 10 am – 4 pm. Men, women and children of all ages and races are needed. As we told you here men with long facial hair, particularly mutton chops are desired. Horsemen also in demand.
Yesterday – Uber 80′s western Young Guns filmed in the Land of Enchantment. Back in 86-87 I remember all the girls in mid-school being all atwitter about it. Don’t forget to meet & greet Young Gunner Lou Diamond Phillips at Frontier Restaurant mañana when he buses for the Arts.
Today’s release of IRon Man 2 is tied to NM 3 fold – As previously reported: the teaser above introduces NM’s Thor during Iron’s end credits, the villainous, scene stealing Rourke shot his pick-ups for the movie at Santa Fe’s Garson Studios and lastly the film is brought to us by the incomparable Jon Favreau who is at the helm of the upcoming NM Production Cowboys and Aliens starring those two uglies.
Mañana – You can enjoy the hot, hot, hot & hilarious trailer for NM’s Own MacGruber yesterday, today and tomorrow…the film opens wide May 21.
NM’s Own Thor makes a dent in the end credits of the forthcoming Marvel epic Iron Man 2. The easter-egg cameo kicks up NM desert dust when the Land of Enchantment plates roll into frame where the hammer of the Thunder God has apparently been discovered…dun, dun, dun.
It’s pretty awesome looking. As the footage is so obviously pirated, it will surely be promptly removed…catch it while you can.
But more importantly let it tickle your titillators and scoot you into theaters to support the hot flick that has digitals a la College of Santa Fe, multiple NM filmers Rourke and RDJ and the upcoming comic dream by Iron Man’s Jon Favreau. Go New Mexico!
These two, who’ve so obviously been badly beaten with an ugly stick, are heading to NM. And like the words truffle butter and brownie, that brings on all kinds of warm.
The quietest gazillionare/movie mogul Jon Favreau, known first and favorably to me as the super rich guy on Friends is bringing his sure to be a hit, Cowboys and Aliens to New Mexico this Summer and according to ubercaster of NM’s desert sky stars, Elizabeth Gabel:
“…we will need men to grow out their facial hair, especially the mutton chops and mustaches. Please start growing hair now and send me an updated photo at elizabeth@egcasting.com or mail one to
Elizabeth Gabel

Women will have to have long hair and we will cast in smaller sizes: size 8 and below, sorry it is a wardrobe availability problem.” – EG Casting
