NMDog Rescue Outreach Education

New Mexico Women in Film is getting ready to shoot their annual community outreach PSA. This year’s recipient is NMDOG, a rescue organization that focuses on chained dogs and cruelty cases.

They are currently looking for volunteers for crew positions, as well as equipment. (You DO NOT need to be a member of NMWIF or a woman to volunteer).

Filming will take place on February 9th (possibly the 15th depending on the majority of volunteer availability), on location in Albuquerque’s south valley.

Santa Fe – Film industry decision makers are pulling back the curtain on New Mexico’s film industry for a three-day event putting New Mexican filmmakers, budding actors and businesses wanting to serve the industry before decision casting agents, production leaders and buyers.

The three-day event includes a full day of panels and open forums to introduce businesses and individuals to New Mexico’s film industry decision makers.

The weekend will begin December 6 with a celebration of music through the Santa Fe Music Alliance. Band’s to perform are To Build a Fiee, Sol Fire, and Numbtron (electronic side band with members of the D Numbers.) There will also be a raffle of a music video shoot valued at $5,000 launching at the event courtesy of the Santa Fe Music Alliance.

December 7 Segments include “How to break into show business” for prospective actors and extras, “How to advance your acting career” for those with previous experience and open casting calls for both groups.

“Native New Mexicans are making a living wage in productions across the state,” says Jon Hendry, business agent for IATSE 480, a union of film industry workers. “Everyone from Deming to Downtown Santa Fe has benefited from new business and new jobs film has created in New Mexico. The programs in this weekend are opening up even more opportunities for all of us.”

In addition, production buyers will be on hand to meet New Mexico business leaders looking to promote or expand their business with the industry. All businesses are welcome.

Educational forums and discussions are also planned in conjunction with the State Film Office to explain New Mexico’s film industry incentive programs and the production rebate system. Tobi Ives, Senior Manager of Production, and Rochelle Bussey, Workforce Development Programs Manager, will discuss incentives and resources available through the New Mexico State Film Office the afternoon of December 7. New Mexico has over ten years of experience as an incentive state and offers a competitive Refundable Film Production Tax Credit. In addition, New Mexico has been a leader in crew, vendor and infrastructure growth including the Film Crew Advancement Program which provides career opportunities to resident crew and reimbursements of qualifying residents’ wages to productions. Join us at the luncheon to ask questions and understand these resources available to the industry.

The day will finish with the announcement of the Shoot Santa Fe Pilot Project winner, who will win a prize package worth 25k of industry products and cash to turn their 60-90 second trailer submission into a pilot. Submission cut off date is December 1. Details at santafefilmfestival.com.

December 8 with complete the weekend with a Brunch & Panel to discuss topics for the 2014 Legislative Session. Lawmakers will cover topics including Achievable Goals, Power of Persuasion, and The next years of legislation for film.

New Mexico’s “biggest budget web series” is filming a pilot right here in Albuquerque, New Mexico in late October.

Hunter’s Game is a dark, methodical, yet hopeful drama web series, following the life of Hunter Williams, a haunted teen plagued with visions of future events that he battles to change. The psychic teen tries to maintain a normal life, while waging a secret war with fate, in order to save lives by influencing future events.

Hunter Williams: (Caucasian Male) Lead role – A haunted teen, age 17-19, athletic build, black/brown hair, tall(No tattoos/piercings). Hunter is a leader to his peers and a joy to his family. Haunted by visions of a past he was too young to prevent, Hunter hides a dark secret. Hunter’s life is a meticulous balancing act of deception, loss, hope, fear, failure, secrets and quiet redemption.

KEIRA DALEY: (Female) A dark, secretive, teen, age 16-18, who has come to live with Alayna Sage after being removed from her violent home. After seeing Hunter, Keira recognizes him for the gifted psychic he is and is determined to ingrain herself into his life with an agenda all her own.

MADISON ROGERS: (Caucasian Female) A beautiful, smart, strong Christian, 16-19, Madison is the light to Keira & Alayna’s dark in Hunter’s world. Madison is Hunter’s balance, his foothold with the acceptable side of life. Though sweet, she is not perfect.

SIERRA LAWRENCE: (Female) Best friend to Madison, 16-19, and girlfriend to Noah, Sierra is a teen born in the wrong era. Free-spirited and gypsy-like, Sierra is the one who is always throwing a wrench in the works for those around her. Outspoken and daring, Sierra’s live-out-loud presence sometimes draws unwanted attention from the wrong people.

NOAH PARKER: (Male) A comedic dreamer and hopeless optimist, 17-19, Noah is Hunter’s best friend. For all of Hunter’s seriousness, Noah’s happy-go-lucky attitude helps lighten Hunter’s dark and heavy emotions. Deep down however, Noah is harboring his own demons.

TRACEY WILLIAMS: (Caucasian Female) The “got-it-all-together” wife of Ethan Williams, age 32. Tracey is the glue that holds Ethan’s family together. Unaware of the troubled past that Ethan, Brayden and Hunter share, Tracey tries to bridge the ever-widening gap between the three men.

ZACHARY WILLIAMS: (Caucasian Male) Hunter’s new rambunctious stepbrother, 9-11, who is a big part of Hunter and Ethan’s lives.

LUKE KINARD: (Male) – Fun-loving detective, 28, always finds the bright side to life, no matter how dark the world around him becomes. Brayden’s new partner from Houston, TX.

Isaac Reynolds: (Male) A methodical, child-serial killer, strong, athletic type, 25, who begins a battle of wits with Hunter.

OLIVER EISNER: (Male) Tough, intimidating lieutenant, late 50s, who has lost patience with the system and those working in it.

GABRIEL FLORES: (Hispanic Male) Aggressive but likeable, young detective, age 29, working his way up the ranks.

AMY CORRALES: (Female) A happy-go-lucky child, 6-9, that is kidnapped from her home, but later saved by Hunter.

CYNTHIA CORRALES: (Female) Loving Mother to Amy, 30-35.

REX MARTINEZ: (Hispanic Male) Quiet, best friend to Zachary Williams, 9-11.

We are looking for an in-state Director and production team for a commercial production to shoot in New Mexico in January of 2013. The shoot will be 2-4 days. MOS. We are looking for a Director who has national, award-winning experience shooting outdoor/adventure sports and activities. In addition, this Director must be highly skilled in pulling authentic moments of humanity from all cast members. We would like the production team to be a tight group that has worked together, can maximize production value with a small footprint, move quickly, and get a lot of coverage using multiple cameras. NM Film Needs Your Body

Ironically many New Mexicans in Film, Entertainment, Trades and Local Business are working and can’t up the head-count to take a stand FOR NM FILM over at the Roundhouse.

But, we know plenty of y’all could & would haul your bodies up there and put your best act on if it were for a part in The Avengers or the like. Well this call to action may be one of the most important try-outs of your professional life.

Without a show of force NM Film remains in peril and efforts to keep cast, crews, support services and our kids in training for all of the above gainfully employed are shaky – we need a full cast & crew present to keep our top spot in global film production. If you would make the trek to audition or tryout for a role to further your career make this trip to capital city within the next few days.

Today we were able to chat briefly with IATSE Local 480 Business Manager and Film lobbyist, Jon Hendry. He’s quite literally been making the rounds, up at the Big House in Santa Fe and tells us we can take head that there is time left and negotiations open that we can still impact – the calls and emails are going through but NM Film needs your body.
