George-Lopez-NMFilmimage via smithsonianmag.com

The last word from George Lopez regarding his upcoming projects came in April via Twitter, where the actor said, “la Vida robot !! Is moving !” In June Production Weekly tweeted of Lopez that his “FX series SAINT GEORGE begins shooting mid-August and plans to follow with Sean McNamara’s feature LA VIDA ROBOT”.

Now our sources are reporting that the actor is indeed set to star in and co-produce La Vida Robot, right here in New Mexico. Lopez has previously worked in the New Mexico films, Swing Vote and The Spy Next Door.

La Vida Robot centers on a group of Latino high school students who compete in the National Underwater Robotics competition despite the fact that they are undocumented.

Disney television series director, Sean McNamara (That’s so Raven, Shake it Up!, Sonny With a Chance, Jonas, Jessie) will direct the movie as written by Elissa Matsueda. Brookwell-McNamara, the family entertainment production company behind Soul Surfer, is scheduled to bring the production to New Mexico in the Fall of 2013.

Keepin’ it Latino’ish, razztacular and New Mexican!

Thanks to Jessica Miser-Alba and George Lopez for keeping NM and proud Latinos everywhere in the swing of Awards Season with their multiple Razzie Award noms for sour performances in two New Mexico movies.

Jessie was nominated three times over, including a nod for Worst Supporting Actress in the NM Film, The Killer Inside Me.

Jorge too nabbed several noms (one for voice acting – ouch), including Worst Supporting Actor for NM Film, The Spy Next Door! Woot!

See the entire list of dubious nominations here presented by the greatest, unsung, poetic mind of our time…

On one of the only night-time talk spots where FUBAR isn’t in or on the schedule, Jackie Chan recounts his on set trails with novice action co-star and Lopez Tonight host George Lopez.

Also last night over on NotBankingonConan, Gary Oldman appeared on The Tonight Show promoting NM’s Book of Eli.

And later that night…Maggie Gyllenhaal waxes romantic about her New Mexico role in the Golden Globe nominated Crazy Heart with Jeff Bridges on the Jimmy Fallon show.

Can’t swing a remote or pitch a click without catching some buzz about NM’s film/entertainment industry.

Wax on NM.
