Sorry Bogota…you can’t touch this New Mexico style:
In the ongoing vilification of the Film Industry, opponents say, “the state can’t balance the budget if it doesn’t know what it’s going to be paying out to Hollywood.”
So while film is continually labeled as a drain on the state, big corporations pay less in state taxes than the truly oppressed New Mexican Small Business Owner, oil and gas are subsidised without scrutiny, and a little digging into special interest groups (i.e. campaign contributors), may yield some insight into what else gets special attention and consideration.
Ask the Governor, “WHY NO OIL & GAS CAP?”
Meanwhile here’s the KRQE report, featuring both sides of this ongoing saga that is, The State vs. Film:
The film office says movie makers spent $50 million less in New Mexico during the fiscal year that just ended, compared to the year before.
The film office claims movie producers rushed to cash in before the cap, which artificially boosted the 2011 spending numbers, making this year’s drop look worse than it really is.
The legislature has ordered a long term study to nail down exactly what the economic impact of the movie making business is, but the study has not started. -Full story by Alex Tomlin here.

I’ve been woefully neglectful in covering the results of this year’s premiere talent competition from our most progressively hip & contemporary t.v. network(s).
2 Kasa Fox/KRQE 13 already provide the sunshine & light of your weekday mornings vis a vie the dueling mega watt smiles of New Mexico Style hosts Nikki Stanzione & Kristen Van Dyke, and round the clock news men and women whom we all adore…

NYC’s Consuelos Family is NM bound!
On this morning’s episode of LIVE with Regis & Kelly, Mark Consuelos was pinch hitting for Regis Philbin alongside his real life, real skinny wife Kelly Ripa where the pair announced their impending trip to Nuevo México with all their chitlins in tow.
Mark made the call this year to bring the annual family Way Out West trek to our fair state in T-minus 5 days, when we’ll be tasked along with him to make it great for Pipa & Co.
While Ripa may be a tough customer for our dept. of tourism to impress Consuelos extolled his passion for the Land of Enchantment which undoubtedly took hold when he was here filming ’08’s Husband for Hire.
Roll out the welcome mats and face masks! Bienvenido Consueli!
New Mexico is the BEST! The Automobile License Plate Collectors Association of the known universe has decreed it so!

UPDATE 3/8/11: Daddy tried to warn you, but it seems even with a small uprising of contact from subscribers, Dish yanked your KRQE/KASA. It’s time to antenna-up.
The full list of LIN Media owned stations affected by the Dish Network dispute here.
It seems you can’t throw a stone without hitting someone trying to pull one over one ya’. We’re not affected by this mess ’cause we’re far too impoverished to partake of Dish Network, but it seems a battle is brewing between our local CBS/FOX affiliate and the corporation.
Here’s the deets from KRQE/KASA and GM Bill Anderson:
On March 4, 2011, DISH’s contract to carry KRQE-TV & KASA-TV will expire. Please know that we are working hard to reach a new agreement with DISH so you will not lose your favorite programming. If we do not reach an agreement, by law, DISH cannot carry our television stations KRQE & KASA on its satellite system.
Our stations KRQE & KASA are important assets to the local community. Without a fair agreement, we will not be able to provide the premiere news, sports, entertainment, weather, traffic updates, political coverage and other local and national programming that is most important to you.
In the event that we are no longer carried by DISH, viewers may continue to watch their favorite local programming through alternative means, including over-the-air or by switching to a competing pay-TV provider.
Our primary commitment is to our viewers, and we regret if this situation inconveniences you. Call DISH and tell them you don’t want to lose KRQE-TV & KASA-TV and all of your favorite programming. You can reach DISH by calling 1-800-333-DISH or 505-888-6695.
On March 4th, you could lose your favorite programming…

Houston Spaceport, New Mexico we (will soon) have lift-off.
Stratosphere defying stars and billionaires alike will soon be able to make the trek out to Spaceport America, NM for the first of the commercial tourism flights as charted by the Virgin Galactic/New Mexico venture that is Spaceport AMERICA.
From the Associated Press via Las Cruces Sun News:
White Knight Two touches down in NM desert
Virgin Galactic’s Sir Richard Branson, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and prospective astronauts gathered in the southern New Mexico desert Friday to celebrate the completion of the runway at the world’s first purpose-built commercial spaceport.
Spaceport America is the world’s first facility designed specifically to launch commercial spacecraft. The celebration of its nearly-two-mile-long runway comes less than two weeks after another major step for Virgin Galactic: the first solo glide flight of its space tourism rocket ship.
Branson called it an emotional and historic day. The British billionaire said he expects flights for space tourists to begin in nine to 18 months, and he will be among the first passengers…

And by “Cool” I mean Mike Powers and by “the Gang” I mean all the beautiful ladies and handsome gents of KRQE y KASA Fox 2 News.
With a picture so crystal clear it’s practically 3D you can gaze into the dreamy eyes of Tim Maestas and depth so real you can almost smell the freshness of grooming products on the perfectly coiffed aforementioned Powers.
For a groovier groove check out those weathercasters, esp. at night with their celestial glow as they pop off your set from in front of their green screen.
My one and only complaint is of the swiveling, HD symbols in the sidebars of video frames. Those things are giving me visual Tourette’s, like other simple life forms I’m totally distracted by the tiny shiny objects.
I’m sure I’ll complain again when all the seksi ladies of KRQE begin to give me a complex lookin’ all fly in Hi Def. Check it all out from the rockin’ new set to the FOF Michael Jambalaya (I say that with great respect for diverse and spicy things) every day on KRQE News 13 and Kasa Fox 2 News at 9.

Here’s the whack-tacular mess that is the official poster for the upcoming Sex and the City part deux.
This outrageous mess is making all kinds of waves for its lack of photoshop artistry. The Sindicator agrees. They may as well have just magnetic lassoed Kim Catrall’s head right off the Mannequin movie poster.
Better still is the ‘official’ KRQE and the City poster (below). You can see the moving parts version of the doctored Sex and the City crew starting May 27 and the real, foxy ladies of KRQE in their new studio diggs sooooon.
KRQE Mornings et al have captured my attention with their various teasers leading up to the eventual unveiling their brand new studio. But more than that thanks to Jay Leno’s perpetual un-funniness and my affinity for East Coast wit I’ve been falling asleep on the #3 CBS with Dave Letterman (after KASA Fox 2 news and TMZ of course), which has led to some early mornings with Deanna and Mike.
Mike’s voice and delivery are downright hypnotic, and as I stare at him I realize that he’s the calmer, newsie version of the seductively intense Alec Baldwin. Both Mike and Deanna seem even clearer than usual too, maybe their temporary mouse-hole diggs are equipped with better cameras. AnysupermagnifiedHD, they are like 3X life size and clear as day.
Which has brought about a new found appreciation for Deanna’s saucey Paula Abdul look, and though I have never seen her abs, those enviable eyebrows definitely garner a NM’s Own Situation award.
and p.s. it’s nice that KRQE Mornings and the CBS Morn’ Show don’t have a damn ticker at the bottom of the screen distracting my ADD***!
