Rumors are swirling about who will step in to replace Jude Law in the upcoming Natalie Portman western “Jane Got a Gun”…but has anyone thought that it may be TWO of the a fore mentioned studs instead of just one????
L’est we forget that there’s more than just one vacancy left after the upheaval resulting from a certain director’s direct exit from the film…as we alluded to here, prior to that directorial mess, a genuine scheduling conflict caused a leading man void in the Portman produced pelicula.
IF anyone has ever taken a word of my advice on what a riveting film NM’s Own 2009 “Brothers” was, they’ll know that both Tobey Maguire and Jake Gyllenhaal are a natural fit to work with Portman, and as for Jeff Bridges…well, CRAZY HEART!!!! Need I say more? If so, how ’bout a little film called “True Grit”, starring the naturally dreamy and perfectly aged Jeff Bridges!
Finally I’d be remiss if I didn’t disclose that Bridges’ co-star in Grit, none other than THE Matt Damon of the long ago NM Film, “All the Pretty Horses” is, as of this writing, a scheduling clear contender…
Of course it will be no surprise if none of the above make it to set, as is the world of movie making…maybe one of the locals can take a stab at one or two of the vacant roles on this pic.
Meanwhile, word on the wire is that another long lived leading man is recently signed on for a yet to be announced NM western, namely one Kurt Russell who is said to be on board with “Bone Tomahawk”, led by Timothy Olyphant (Justified) and Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter).

The likewise best selling Dean Koontz novel turned highly anticipated NM movie, Odd Thomas is (back) at work this week.
Odd director Stephen Sommers also churned out 2009′s GI Joe which starred Sienna Miller and Channing Tatum…Sienna’s current project, Just Like a Woman is now casting and set to shoot right here in NM.
Tatum’s upcoming New Mexico movie Ten Year is expected to premiere this year…but you never can tell, another GI Joe co-star Rachel Nichols starred in the NM film Bird of the Air (formerly titled The Loop) and we’re still waiting on its release.
This isn’t the first NM term for Odd Thomas star Anton Yelchin, who is back for another run as he was for the soon to be released thriller Fright Night.
Anton’s co-star in Fright, Colin Farrell is too a repeat NM filmer as he previously starred opposite the Oscar® winning Jeff Bridges in…the wholly New Mexico film Crazy Heart.
Bridges also worked in NM…in last year’s True Grit along side Matt Damon who first worked NM waay back in ’99 in All the Pretty Horses a film based on the novel of the same name by…you guessed CORMAC MCCARTHY…
Like the too little known quote from Barbara Walters to her adopted daughter:
“…born in my heart. Maybe not in my uterus, but in my heart,”
So is our beloved adopted crew thar’ above. True Grit may have an eccentric birth mother in California and ruffneck pa in Texas, but for a time the Grit was all ours.
And we love ‘em and root for ‘em and take a little applause for the Coen Bros flick for ourselves as True Grit opens WIDE today.

Look at ‘em – the bestest lil’ actor out there, our repeat NM actor, Mr. Matt Damon, the Oscar Winner Jeff Bridges (for his turn in NM movie Crazy Heart) and that strapping, turk Josh Brolin from NM’s Academy Award winning No Country for Old men and the unsung NM film In the Valley of Elah.
So though this film has outgrown us and spends the holidays with more flashy friends and cities – make no mistake through the life’s blood of this Grit runs true New Mexico.
Don’t forget us young Hailee Steinfeld, sure as you’re to grow into your britches as well as Bridges – New Mexico is behind you and proud like the dickens that that purdy face above took such an incredible turn as the tough as nails, pan faced Mattie Ross in this NM movie.
