‘Space Race’ America Headed to NM

Posted by on October 5, 2013 | One comment

Spaceport, NM

NBC’s drama series, The Night Shift is currently in production at Albuquerque Studios in central New Mexico, and it looks like one of their upcoming reality shows will be heading south in the near future to shoot the first ever American space travel competition.

Uber producer Mark Burnett (Survivor, The Voice) is making the move into out-of-this-world reality, by offering contestants a chance at space travel in a “groundbreaking, elimination competition series”, based out of New Mexico’s own Spaceport America – Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic commercial space travel facility.

Teaming with Branson will bring Burnett’s long-time quest of taking reality competition into the stratosphere to fruition. After successfully selling NBC on the idea of space competition and subsequently building two grounded show premises around the concept over ten years ago, the project will finally take flight from New Mexico.

“I am thrilled to be part of a series that will give the everyday person a chance to see space and that NBC has come on board too so that viewers at home will have a first class seat.” Burnett said in a recent statement.

The prospective air date for the show has been revealed, but the commercial space travel flights, going for up to $250,000.00 each, are scheduled to begin launching from Spaceport America in 2014. Advance ticket deposits are reported to have been purchased by the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Ashton Kutcher, Brad Pitt, Simon Cowell and over 600 more buyers to the tune of over $80M.

From NBC:

At San Antonio Memorial, those who work the 7pm – 7am shift are a special breed. Welcome to the night shift, where every day is a fight between the heroic efforts of saving lives and the hard truths of running a hospital. After a grueling tour of duty in Afghanistan, adrenaline junkie TC Callahan became accustomed to combat, but he could have never guessed that his toughest battles would be fought right here at home. TC and his irreverent team of late night docs know how to let off steam with the casual prank or two, but when lives are at stake, they are all business.

Unfortunately, the night shift is now under new management, and boss Michael Ragosa is more interested in cutting costs than helping people. But TC has never met a rule he couldn’t break, or a person he won’t stand up to. And it’s clear that not even Jordan, TC’s ex-girlfriend and now Ragosa’s second in charge, has a chance at keeping him in line. If Ragosa wants a war… he’ll get one.

Executive producers/writers Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah (“Diary of a Wimpy Kid”).

New Mexico Hot for TV

UPDATE 7/2/2013: Breaking Bad creator, Vince Gillagan says Saul Goodman Spinoff Moving ‘Full Speed Ahead’ -The Wrap TV

Breaking Bad Spin-off NBC Series Night Shift NMFilm

As the world anxiously awaits the final eight episodes of the “best show on television”, Breaking Bad fans are equally curious for the verdict on what comes next for cast & crew.

Even before we learn the fate of Walter White & Co. Br Ba devotees look forward to the most likely spin-off in which the best, slimiest, lawless lawyer around, Saul Goodman will once again ease all with, “Better Call Saul”.

Best news for New Mexico is that if a deal is indeed inked for the series, the most likely place for the Saul Goodman led series to take place would be original series home, Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Home to the AMC series, Albuquerque Studios (The Avengers, The Lone Ranger) is well seasoned and at the ready for the return of all things Saul.

Last fall NBC shot the gritty drama pilot “After Hours” across the interstate, as a prospect for last season’s television schedule. After not making the first cut, then being volleyed back and forth from the pick-up list to the tentative list, an off-cycle short order has been placed for at least four episodes of the show.

With a little tweek to the working title, from “After Hours” to “The Late Shift” production is scheduled to get back underway at I-25 Studios (Transcendence, Lone Survivor) later this summer!

And as we’ve previously reported, up north some very special goings-on are going on around the return of the A&E hit series, Longmire and the highly anticipated Seth MacFarlane adaptation of Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey for Fox television.

NM Lands Another Shot at Dramatic Television

Posted by on November 3, 2012 | Comments Off on NM Lands Another Shot at Dramatic Television

New Mexico loses its biggest success in television in just months as Breaking Bad will wrap this winter.

There have been many pilot episodes produced here over the past several years including, The Rabbit Factory, Gateway, Reconstruction, and The Odds, none of which were picked-up for a network season schedule.

The ABC Family series The Lying Game, and CBS hit Vegas completed their NM pilots and achieved network season orders, but went elsewhere to film.

Fortunately, the A&E MEGA hit series LONGMIRE has stuck with NM from pilot, through its first season and will head back soon for a full second season!

Now OHI can exclusively report that a new dramatic series will land in New Mexico. The NBC pilot centers around the medical field and is currently in pre-production right here in Albuquerque.

Dateline Hollywood Reoports:

Freddy Rodriguez is set as a lead in the hour long NBC pilot After Hours. The Sony TV project, written/executive produced by Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah and to be directed by Pierre Morel, revolves around the graveyard shift in the ER at San Antonio Medical Center. Rodriguez will play hospital administrator Michael Ragosa who is the new Comptroller for the Night Shift. A wannabe doctor who had to drop out of med school because of vision problems, Ragosa is a real bureaucrat for whom the bottom line seems to be everything. Rodriguez joins recently cast Eoin Macken.

Rodriguez, repped by UTA and manager Robbie Kass, stars in the Weinstein Co.’s Seal Team 6*, which premieres this Sunday on National Geographic. He recently wrapped a lead role in Randall Miller’s indie CBGB. Rodriguez’s series credits include Ugly Betty and Chaos.

* Seal Team 6 is another NMFilm Production

New Mexico Upfront

FilmNMTV

ABC Family has green lighted their original series The Lying Game, a spin-off of their hit show Pretty Little Liars. Both shows are based on novels by Sara Shepard.

As we told you here the pilot filmed right here in NM! You can thank Susana Martinez for the show up and taking production to Los Angeles – Thank you Susana!

The Lying Game is set to premiere Monday, August 15 on ABC Family.

Also just announced the Longmire television series has been picked by A&E for their upcoming season! Longmire is currently in production in northern NM.

Not fairing so well; CBS jinxed pilot starring Donald Faison, The Odds is never slated to see the light of day. Also not ‘coming soon’ is TNT’s Albuquerque production of The Rabbit Factory – that pilot had teamed DL Hughley with Steven Weber and employed many local cast & crew.

NBC says pass on another newsworthy NM shoot, that of Reconstruction (originally titled The Crossing) which marks strike two in recent TV season up-at-bats for for star Rachelle Lefevre who also led the cast of the highly touted, quickly puttered Off the Map.

Big hitters Breaking Bad and In Plain Sight are currently in production in the Q. The acclaimed A&E and USA network shows are in the midst of their fourth seasons respectively.

If there’s not enough NM on TV for you…because there never is, the revamped Charlie’s Angels series, starring New Mexico’s Own Minka Kelly is on the fall TV schedule where you can still find fellow New Mexicans Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Neil Patrick Harris in their own high falutin, hit TV series’.
