Breaking Bad Fest

Never say die to the folks behind the upcoming Albuquerque Breaking Bad Fan Fest. Like the Kingpin and his devoted protégé, Miguel Jaramillo and Jennie Rexer are on a quest, a quest to bring the Breaking Bad universe what it truly needs to thrive – and that is a place to convene, revel and rejoice in all the splendor that is Breaking Bad mania.

And unlike any old venue or setting that may house masses for weekend or week-long festivities, such as Star-trek conventions, or general comic festivals, the ALBUQUERQUE BREAKING BAD FAN FEST will take place in the home of Vince Gilligan’s masterpiece.

That’s right, the happy accident that led to Albuquerque becoming a “central character” in the show, leads all roads back to the ultimate Breaking Bad mecca – the only place in the world where tourists from all over the globe can regularly be seen snapping pics at the John B. Robert dam, sitting in a booth at Twisters, in front of Octopus Car Wash, in front of the “White House”, even touring around the city just like the stars!

Come November 2014 these “Baddies” and many more can make the most out of their fandom at the ultimate “on location” fan fest.

“We’re happy to announce plans for an Albuquerque Breaking Bad Fan Fest are moving forward! We were unable to reach our Kickstarter goal, but the Fest will go on! Please stay tuned for more info on this page and www.ABQBreakingBadFest.com. Save the date: November 7th & 8th, 2014!”

Breaking Bad: And that’s a WRAP (sort of)

Posted by on March 19, 2013 | Comments Off on Breaking Bad: And that’s a WRAP (sort of)

Above, while walking the press line at the Tribute to Breaking Bad event held Saturday night at Albuquerque Studios in New Mexico, Bryan Cranston answered a wide array of inquiries ranging from his thoughts on New Mexico in general to this juicy tidbit on how he sees the journey of Walter White saying:

“My perspective on it is that every human being is fully capable of the wide spectrum of emotions, and even the meekest person among us is a dangerous person given the right set of circumstances and what happened to Walter White was just that. Certain, specific buttons were pushed at a very delicate fragile time in his life and he made decisions that he could not take back and he was on the road, he was on a spiral to hell.”

The Albuquerque Studios, Reelz Channel, YDI Tribute to Breaking Bad culminated in this meet & greet for contest winners and event sponsors, with select media and Albuquerque civic leaders in attendance. The cast mingled with the crowed, signed autographs and posed for photos with sponsors and winners alike. With sponsorship packages and ticket sales, organizers of the fundraiser for Youth Development Incorporated, were able to raise over $28,000 in just a few weeks time to benefit the local youth organization.

After the gang buster success of this, one of the many civic outreach events the production has undertaken in their six years at work here, there was another event held at an undisclosed location.

Though OHI has confirmed that Breaking Bad cameras are still rolling her in Albuquerque, at least for a few more hours, the closed door event turned out to be the show’s wrap party, where the tears and “bittersweet” sentiments that were already beginning to swell at the fundraiser flowed at full speed, as cast, crew, production staff, friends and family shared their parting words of reflection and gratitude.

In a speech addressing the crowed Bryan Cranston thanked AMC and Sony for having the courage to pick-up the show and said, “Even though Vince Gilligan didn’t set out to make a classic that’s exactly what happened. In years to come this show will stand the test of time and scrutiny.”

Telling everyone, “All of you here tonight can say proudly that we worked on breaking bad. Now it’s time to go, it’s time to wrap it up, fold-up our tents and move away but there’s one thing that will never leave us even though we’re leaving this experience and that is from here on for the rest of our lives we will be inexorably tied to each other as a one as a family and I for one am personally am overjoyed to have this opportunity to be w this family all of you, such fine human beings number one and artisans number 2 I love you all I will miss you all, God bless you and God bless you Mr. Vince Gilligan for giving us this opportunity!”

Hometown star Steven Michael Quezada said, “I’m very proud of New Mexico, I’m a New Mexican…the crews here, you have made us proud> We’re gonna do great things moving on in the future. I’d like to thank Mr. Vince Gillagan for giving us that, we are gonna learn from that and we’re gonna go forward and we’re gonna thrive and thank you Governor Martinez. Thank you for signing a bill that will help us…this cast here has changed New Mexico let’s learn from it and let’s move on, thank you very much.”

Anna Gunn too thanked AMC and Sony “for giving our little show about meth a home.” Then addressing her co-stars calling them, “the most generous gifted hilarious group of actors I have loved playing with you every minute and I have loved watching your brilliant work.”

And in a tremendous nod of support to those who crafted the show year after year, “Most of all I really just wanna pay homage to the most amazing crew top to bottom that I have ever worked with in my career. Everyday that I came to work I didn’t feel like I was coming to work, I felt like I was coming to make art, communally with a group of people that I adored and you all are artists. You are all crafts men and woman and you gave every ounce of yourselves with such passion and dedication through sandstorms and snowstorms and scorching heat and everything in between, and I was in awe of what you did and we really became a family.”

Lastly the native New Mexican added, “I have met some of the finest human beings and artists that I have ever come across in all my years working in this business and I feel so blessed because of that and I will be forever grateful for this experience so, Que Viva New Mexico and Que Viva Breaking Bad!”

Considering the veritable constellation of stars mooning over the show, year-in and year-out…it should come as no surprise that any celeb, who might be so able, would give their eye-tooth to make their merry way to the set…

Even so, as is his way, “Wierd” Al made it extra special by tweeting to his millions of followers (that’s right MILLIONS):

“People in Albuquerque are so friendly! These guys even invited me to their meth lab!”

Adding later to his Facebook page:

“Big thanks to Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul, Bryan Cranston and RJ Mitte for getting weird with me tonight in Albuquerque!”

As Seen on NM TV…

Posted by on December 4, 2010 | 3 comments

Actor RJ Mitte of the Emmy winning series Breaking Bad took the time to guest w/co-star Steven Michael Quezada on NM’s Own late night TV Talk Show, The After After Party.

At his tender age Mitte is an accomplished man with talent beyond his years who charmed the crowed and the camera with his easy wit and affability. He is certainly a star to watch for all of the above reasons and many more.

Mitte is an active member and spokesperson for the organization I AM PWD, which stands (quite literally) and works for Inclusion in the Arts & Media of People with Disabilities.

From the PMD Fact Sheet:

The U.N. estimates that there are 650 million people in the world living with a disability; the US Census says there are 56 million Americans with disabilities. They remain virtually invisible in media.

The GOALS
With the endorsement of the governing bodies of all three national unions, the I AM PWD Campaign and its growing network of union member activists and partners will focus on several areas throughout the duration of the campaign:

ACCESS, INCLUSION and ACCURACY.

  • Creating a nationwide network of advocates both inside and outside of the entertainment and media industries.
  • Work with the AFL-CIO to create a Disability Constituency Group within the federation.
  • Eliminate the virtual exclusion and discrimination of persons with disabilities at all levels in the entertainment industry.

Learn more about I AM PWD here and follow Mitte, New Mexico’s Own AMC series Breaking Bad and The After After Party where all of the above are making a difference in bringing work and equality to New Mexico EntertaiNMent & beyond.

After The After After Party

Posted by on November 17, 2010 | 3 comments

In the paraphrased words of the late great Ed Sullivan, it was a really, really big show!

If you weren’t at the taping of NM’s Own Late Night Talk Show The After After Party with Steven Michael Quezada you missed some of the funniest, most entertaining moments of the year!

In short the audience was the MAN, the sixth man that is, but it wasn’t a tough task because from start to finish SMQ held the crowd in that endearing & engaging way he wields his HIGHlarity. The original and actual members of the Quezada family led the chain of adorable supporting the King of Hommywood in this next great, big step in his entertaiNMent career! (Mama Quezada was too presh for words)

The newest honorary Quezadas include the astounding James Douglas Show who simply brought down the house with every single beat – and I kid you not, brought the goose bumps along with the can’t-help-but-shake your booty funkification!

This production is truly a sample of New Mexico’s finest – the professional, largely volunteer crew, students, performers and guests really brought their A-game as a community, it doesn’t get more feel-good fun than that.

If you’re up for some feel-good, funky, hilarious, goodness YOU too still have a chance to catch some up-coming shows LIVE. Keep-up with all the updates & announcements right here on the show’s official Facebook page AND most definitely pick-up the James Douglas Show’s music here, here or here in the meantime.

Be a part of NM history, join the familia, and don’t miss another live show!

The premiere episode of The After After Party with Steven Michael Quezada airs Friday November 26 at 2 a.m. on the CW.
