From The Associated Press:
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — More than five dozen businesses will be looking for military veterans to fill more than 3,500 jobs at a special job fair this week in New Mexico.
The annual Heroes Hiring Heroes Job Fair will be Thursday at Hotel Albuquerque (800 Rio Grande Blvd. NW).
The New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services, the state labor department and the New Mexico Veterans’ Business Outreach Center are among the sponsors.
State officials say jobs ranging from managerial and technical positions to white- and blue-collar positions are available.
Last year’s fair attracted 1,200 job seekers and 54 companies.
Officials expect this year’s attendance to be equal to that or higher. They point to a May survey by the U.S. Bureau of Labor that shows a national unemployment rate of up to 30 percent among male Iraq and Afghanistan veterans ages 18-34.
