Well isn’t this a lovely turn of events? It seems that the last half of 2014 and moving on into a bright and shiny 2015, more tips and hints are turning out to come to fruition than not!
From Fey to Sandler to “Frank Underwood”, some of the hottest gossip that has landed in the OHI inbox is rapidly coming to life, on location and in the amazing studios available right here in New Mexico.
The 2016 sequel is expected to hit theaters…when else…over the July 4th holiday…twenty years later. ID2, two decades on the heels of its predecessor, WILL NOT star the original lead.
Returning producer Dean Devlin has said, “I’m not sure of the reasons why Will [Smith] ultimately decided not to do it. You’d have to ask him. I think he was just at a place where he did seriously consider it. We had a lot of meetings with him, but at the end of the day he decided that doing this wasn’t right for him.”
Also back for part deux is director Roland Emmerich. Likely character returns include Jeff Goldblum as environmentalist David Levinson and Randy Quaid’s refugee transporting, Russell Casse.

The Hollywood Reporter has been following for months that…
Paramount has picked up The Taliban Shuffle, an adaptation of journalist Kim Barker’s wartime memoir as a starring vehicle for Tina Fey.
Fey is attached to star in and produce the adaptation with her former Saturday Night Live boss and 30 Rock cohort Lorne Michaels.
And as discussed on the air just weeks ago with the 94Rock Morning Show, OHI has received tips that Fey and her co-star Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wallstreet, Pan Am) may very well bring their “Taliban Shuffle” out to shoot in New Mexico.
Well now it’s official, at least by our standards. Early word on the Albuquerque, NM production of the weighty comedy is that filming is scheduled to begin, January 2015.
More on the plot: “The memoir tells of Barker’s arrival as a fish out of water in Kabul, filing stories about militants, being a woman in wartime Iraq and Pakistan, dealing with boredom interspersed with dashes of violence, and the promiscuous war-correspondent culture.”
Bankside boards John Michael McDonagh’s “War on Everyone” is headed to NM
Garrett Hedlund and Michael Pena are set to star in War on Everyone for writer/director John Michael McDonagh (Calvary). The story centers on two corrupt cops in New Mexico who set out to blackmail and frame every criminal unfortunate enough to cross their path. Things take a sinister turn, however, when they try to intimidate an outlaw who is more dangerous than they are. The film will shoot in New Mexico in March 2015.
In addition to projects currently filming in NM a whole bevy of new productions are headed this way.
As “Blood Father” has wrapped and “Sicario” rolls on, two indie features are currently setting up shop in Albuquerque. As we told you here, “Bare” is set to get underway this week, while “Burning Bodhi” is in the middle of filming. Stay tuned for more info. on both – coming soon.
Meanwhile as “Lonmgire” 3 has wrapped, “Better Call Saul” 1 and 2 are in high (slow) gear, “Manhattan” 1 is winding down and “The Messengers” is getting set to resume; Two new comedy pilots are preparing to to shoot in New Mexico. Also in this broadcast we told you that the AMC comedy pilot for “We Hate Paul Revere” is expected to shoot at Albuquerque Studios within weeks. And come this fall a dramatic comedy pilot for USA Network currently titled, Stanistan is also headed to Albuquerque.
Revere is set in Boston, focusing on two brothers who are comically anti early American industrialist & Patriot Paul Revere, starring Ethan Sandler and Adrian Wenner. Stanistan follows the staff at the American Embassy in the Middle Eastern country as State Department workers, covert CIA officers and journalists strike a delicate balance of danger and absurdity.
Last week’s San Diego Comic Con was full of exciting reveals, announcements and sightings. One upcoming sci-fi thriller gaining buzz and building anticipation is the sci-fi thriller, “Maze Runner”. The biggest news on Maze at SDCC is that a sequel is already in the works…and guess where it’s expected to land. That’s right kids, while we’re waiting for the “Captain Fantastic” train, chew on the prospect of “The Maze Runner” becoming a big hit and get ready for its sequel to hit New Mexico’s bottom line!
Last year Denis Villeneuve became a red hot commodity with the runaway success of his Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal dramatic thriller, Prisoners, which led Alcon Entertainment to seal a two year deal with the French-Candian writer/director.
The very latest product of that partnership is set to land in New Mexico in just a matter of months. A crime thriller, titled Sicario is slated for production in NM this June.
Blunt will play a police officer in the Southwest who crosses the border with a group of mercenaries to track down a dangerous drug lord (hint, not Walter White). The film is already getting a lot of early buzz due to Villeneauve’s attachment and for the gritty premise being heroine driven.
Alcon has been here before with 2010’s post-apocalyptic action film, The Book of Eli and the brand new Johnny Depp sci-fi/drama Transcendence.
And even before production is underway on Sicario there are rumblings all over the web, already looking forward to Villeneauve’s follow-up picture, The Story of Your Life, another sci-fi drama, this time led by Amy Adams, Blundt’s co-star in Sunshine.
How’s that for an #NMFilm string!

UPDATE 09/26/2013: Conflicting reports are still streaming into our inbox and tip line. Some continue to say “it is”, some say “probably not”, while others say, “HACK, you don’t know anything!” We do know that nothing is official until someone yells, THAT’S A WRAP! Unofficially, our most trusted sources say…
As we’ve been covering for you here, here and here…Lucas Film’s out of this worldly, epic saga sequel, Star Wars Episode VII IS INDEED HEADED TO NM – via Disney!
Like Marvel’s record breaking mega flick The Avengers, and the return of The Lone Ranger (more importantly a flood of global journalists, media outlets and film dollars), Disney returns to the desert and to New Mexico’s class A-1 studio facilities and crew base to shoot the first of THREE pending sequels to add to the mega-galactic franchise.
New Mexico will share production duties with Los Angeles and London when filming gets underway in 2014. Original cast members scheduled to return include Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill…all of whom are slated to somehow reprise their roles from the original 1977 film.
