The Chubbuck acting technique has been studied by Academy Award winning actors including Brad Pitt, Charlize Theron, and Halle Berry. Acting Coach Ivana Chubbuck, dubbed a “Celebrity Whisperer” and the “Go-to Guru to the stars,” has this to say about New Mexico’s own Rebekah Wiggins, “Rebekah has a strong understanding of the Chubbuck Technique. Her natural intuition about human nature, and her ability to connect to people, makes her the perfect kind of person to teach it.”
Wiggins is the owner of Southwest Scene Works and proud to be the first and only certified Chubbuck Technique teacher in the state of New Mexico. She has used the Chubbuck Technique in her own work for the past 8 years. “It has transformed my acting work and can do the same for you. This technique will empower you as an actor. With it you will make unique choices in your acting work, by using your own life experiences,” she says.
These are the first Chubbuck technique classes ever offered in New Mexico! Wiggins is an award winning actor, producer, and composer. In 2008 and twice in 2011 Rebekah won “Best Actress” awards for her work in short films presented at the 48 Hour Film Festival and The National Film Challenge. She’s been in big name films like Brothers, Let Me In, Fright Night, and Sunshine Cleaning. In 2013 Rebekah co-produced and starred in the dark indie thriller, Those Who Wait, which is currently in post‐ production. 2014 and 2015 were busy years for her with lead and supporting roles in six different indie and mainstream feature films. Most recently you can watch Rebekah work as Gladys in WGN America’s Manhattan and as Mrs. Reynard opposite Alexander Skarsgard and Michael Pena in the black comedy War On Everyone.
Southwest Scene Works with Rebekah Wiggins will be offering the Chubbuck acting technique in each Thursday night in July from 6pm to 10pm in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Course outline by Wiggins:
About the Technique
This technique has trained award-winning actors like Jake Gyllenhaal, Brad Pitt, Charlize Theron, Judith Light, Elisabeth Shue, Eva Mendes, James Franco and many more. With it I want to help you reach your highest potential as an actor. It’s my personal goal as a teacher to give you the tools to become successful and to make dynamic empowered choices in your acting work. For more information on the technique, go to the Ivana Chubbuck website.
There are 3 levels in the Chubbuck Acting Technique. Those levels are Basic, Advanced, and Master. All students will start in Basic to nail down the principles of the Technique. How quickly you pick up the technique and work ethic will determine how quickly you advance to the next level. Classes will be capped at 12 people to ensure intensive and focused class work.
Students will be given scenes a week in advance and expected to rehearse with their scene partners 2-3 times per week before putting up their scene in class. If you don’t rehearse, you will not be allowed to put up your scene. Your scene partners will be counting on you to show up. Please be mindful of that and respect and take care of your classmates. I encourage all of you to have a monologue to work on at all times, too. This ensures that you’ll get to put work up every class. It’s important to me that you get the most out of your class time. If you need help selecting monologues, let me know and I will be happy to make some suggestions.
Now is the time to purchase your book, “The Power of the Actor,” by Ivana Chubbuck. You are expected to have the book read by your first class. Come to your first class ready to put your scene up so that we can start work immediately. Each month will vary on dates/times for classes based on the class as a whole. They will take place in downtown Albuquerque at The Orpheum Art Space (500 2nd St SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102).
