New Mexico Film Tourism Has Arrived

Posted by on June 25, 2013 | One comment

New Mexico Film Trails New Mexico Tourism

While states with a smattering of recent film successes and some with storied old classics under their belt have taken their turns at film tourism and tale spinning; the desert gem of global film production now comes to the forefront of film fan experiences by unleashing the power partnership of the magical nuances of visiting our great state with an unparallelled production history.

On Monday the New Mexico Tourism Department and the New Mexico Film Office announced the power partnership of two of the state’s most valuable resources – Tourism and Film.

New Mexico “Film Trails” marries the treasure trove of the state’s unique landscapes and experiences with the only place in the world where Walter White meets The Lone Ranger and at any given moment a cavalcade of Oscar winners pepper the state. Although the local film industry has ebbed and flowed with the impact of a seismic BOOM in recent decades, New Mexico isn’t exactly new to this rodeo with a filmography dating back to 1897.

Let the New Mexico “every man’s” economic prosperity boon skyrocket along with the traveling global recognition of New Mexico as America’s ultimate film travel destination!

Giving in July?

Posted by on June 24, 2013 | Comments Off on Giving in July?

What is Giving in July? It’s like the old “Christmas in July” sales gimmick turned inside out, because need doesn’t take a holiday. It’s a way of thinking that combines your vocation, your calling or your dreams with a spirit of giving in whatever form you’re able, no matter how big or how small – any time of year.

While New Mexico ranks dead last in child welfare and number 8 in the top 10 of least charitable states in the country, we all know that though we may not have a lot, we still have a lot to give.

The New Mexico Film Industry provides an economic boost to the state on many levels, not the least of which is through its contributions to community improvements and charitable organizations. Granted, the global tapestry of philanthropy is far more star-studded than the current local impact. But just as the industry has grown and flourished here, so can too the simplest levels of altruism beginning right in our own neighborhoods.

Whether we first choose inquiry, which may lead to emulation or simply go to top of mind awareness of the most basic and immediate needs around us, we all have something to offer in addressing a greater good.

When seeking inspiration, it isn’t at all difficult to find a charitable act by some of today’s top entertainers – for your quick reference, above are a dozen stars who have worked in the local film industry or whose charitable work touches New Mexico in some form or another.

Right now the movie industry is preparing to watch the global impact of a New Mexico production. While its release is arguably the most anticipated of the year, all around the world, The Lone Ranger has already made a social minded statement by raising funds to benefit the American Indian College Fund. The film’s star, Johnny Depp has a long history of being charitable and has taken to helping locals, including homeless residents, get work on his current New Mexico film.

Our friend, actor Manny Baca is hosting a food drive to benefit New Mexico’s largest emergency homeless shelter this Saturday, OHI’s own Breaking Bad Memorabilia and Site Tours raffle is holding out for the minimum entry tally to be reached so that we may provide $2,000 to Albuquerque’s leading women and children’s transitional living foundation. Year-round, organizations from New Mexico Women in Film’s Scholarship Program to the IATSE Local 480 program, New Mexico Film Makers Give Back, and many, many more network and partner to benefit the arts, humanitarian, and civic needs.

If you are a New Mexico business, organization or individual who works to help in your community we want to hear from you! Please share your stories and ideas with us.

Johnny Depp’s Rough and Tumble Ride: Says Horse SAVED his life [VIDEO]

Posted by on June 19, 2013 | Comments Off on Johnny Depp’s Rough and Tumble Ride: Says Horse SAVED his life [VIDEO]

As we told you here, Johnny Depp talked openly about his affinity for the horse who he said, “saved his life” by treading carefully after the star’s scary fall during the filming of The Lone Ranger.

At around the one minute mark (above) you can see Depp’s tumble and 25 foot drag, after which he pops-up like a champ, a champ with some pretty epic abs as the crew rushes to his side!

Today is the holy day of Depp

Posted by on June 9, 2013 | One comment

johnny-depp

Does the world need a Johnny Depp day? CANTMISSTV.COM says so!

For one, the man is 50. 50! It is a shocking number for a leading
man that looks, and still plays, much younger than his actual age,
but also because he has had such a crazy career. He’s been in such a
long list of great movies, and so many of the roles have been more
unique and more interesting than standard Hollywood leading man stuff.

Many actors have set out on a journey to find interesting roles, and
you’d surely recognize some of them, you might even know their names,
but I’m fairly certain none of them have had the career Johnny has
had. In his first 6 years in the business he went from A Nightmare on
Elm Street, to Platoon, to John Water’s Cry-Baby, to 21 Jump Street,
to Edward Scissorhands. He ended that run as a bonafide star, but had
already done a mix of commercial, and artistic, off-beat projects.
Amazingly, that run was over 20 years ago, which is what makes Depp’s
50th birthday so noteworthy. He has put in a lot of time, done a lot
of great work, but (by all appearances) has done it his way…and that
demands recognition! Happy 50th Johnny!
