Born and bred on a steady diet of pop-culture, Lea (Kristen Rakes) learns what it means for her when the real world doesn’t match up to the silver screen idolatry she’s always been guided by, in the New Mexico Film “Low/Fi”.

To bring his vision to life “Low/Fi” Writer/Director, Alejandro Montoya has assembled a stellar group of New Mexico talent, both in front of and behind the cameras.

Each expertly crafted scene in the 14 minute short, brings you directly into the psyche of the star, who transforms almost literally from beginning to end.

Starring Kristen Rakes, Jocelyn Montoya, Alex Knight, Jodi Lynn Thomas, Alejandro Montoya Marin, Matt Page, Rebekah Wiggins.

“Low/Fi” premieres Saturday, January 10 at the Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

OHI Q & A with Writer/Director, Alejandro Montoya:

OHI: How did you select the music? It seems to be its own character.

AM: Music is always a procedure…I select a playlist that I feel will do justice to the movie and enhance the emotional response I want to have the audience experience. Then we start trimming the playlist, until I have the final songs and then hear them over and over to have the beats locked in. It’s one of my favorite steps.

OHI: What was your process for casting your actors?

AM: I wrote to roles for the actors, I like [to] hang out with them to analyze, study them, so that way when I write I know what way I want them to go, then hear their suggestions.

OHI: When did you conceive this story?

AM: This story was conceived as we were filming “The Princess and the musician” and we shot in August… We were gonna move on and go to the feature but Ariel and I thought it was a fun and very different script from what we had done… So we decided to move forward.

OHI: What do you want your premiere audience to know about this film?

AM: Just to have fun and hope they enjoy it (laughs).

OHI: What’s next for Low/Fi and its cast & crew?

AM: Our next project is a feature…“The Joneses”. It was our 48 hour project that didn’t win here in Albuquerque but has screened in 6 states and Istanbul. People seem to really like it so thats whats next…Plus they are amazing characters to spend some time with.

OHI: What sums up your feelings as a filmmaker at this point of the project?

AM: Gratitude. I want to thank the cast and crew, who I hope love the movie…especially since its been a lot of hard work for 82/92 Productions and 4.5 Films…I also wanna thank everyone who has supported the movie…friends, family, newspapers, etc.
